Way too photo-realistic man. It doesn't look like you edited it that much. :\
LOL that's funny. What if "photo realism" was what he was going for?
It's good except you can see the parts in the inner window frame where you cloned the dark stones...get rid of that. also the scale of the stones might be too big.

oh forgot to mention, the difference in my map is the walls act like a ladder, so you can fall down, and then "fly" towards a wall and stick to it and stop as your enemy keeps falling, and take him out from above as you watch him fall. Realistic? No... Fun? Hell yeah!

I LOVE that farcry map
and omg i dont believe it, your DM map is using the same concept I used for a HLDM map I made a long time ago... It's a pretty powerful concept and is insanely fun. I've played the map with up to 3 other people and the action is so fast its amazing... you can check it out here, the looks suck but that wasnt my concern...its a fun lil' map

Once again great work

Yeah but that whole OMG YOU HAVE TO MODEL SMALL DETAILS stuff doesn't apply in this thread.... because, well its a textures thread so make whatever the hell you want.

It looks good, great first post... I'd get rid of the white splodges on the door frame and work in some more detail to the surface...cracks, dirt etc..

I completely disagree. I hate the fact that there's not that much singleplayer mods out there. And if you find something which is worth playing, it's too short. Of course these are just mods, but still i'd like to see some longer ones. I have a dream about making a SP mod with dev team at least over 20 leveldesigners, desent amout of modelers, one or few coders and a very good story. It should take something like 10 hours to play the game trough. I know it could become a huge disaster but maybe that could be prevented with good leadership. But hey, i can dream right
Yeah that sounds nice on paper but the reality is a bit different. Sure you can pull it off but you might as well set your aims lower and deliver an amazing experience that is not 10 hours long and actually RELEASE it rather than waste two or three years of your life working on something that was unlikely to ever see the light of day to begin with. Or you can keep dreaming.....

its 450 KB. change it.

see this is what i dont understand. 80 BSPs? Jesus people, you are making mods... not commercial games... Keep your game size small so you can actually release something.

Well no because I am also a designer...gameplay wise...so calling myself just an artist still wouldnt do.Everyone keeps saying that things get too complex and that it is normal they get split up but I simply wonder why would they need to be ?
Time contrains for one thing. Like Zaphod said earlier, depending on the scope of your game you simply cannot design, model, texture and light a whole next-gen quality game (level) all by yourself under industry standard deadlines. Also, just because you are an all-around-guy doesn't mean everybody else is. I know a ton of level designers who are just that. Designers. I think anything related to art should be left to the artists to create, not the designers. Of course the two should always be in constant communication with eachother so both visions are merged into one.
Quote from HourencesIf the future is like trackmania I quit this whole thing and go to movie cg graphics.
Umm you DO know that movie CG is even more specialized and split up than games right?

yeah true that, but i smell an advanced april fools

the lighting on my floor at ubisoft sucks... we have these super bright energy saving lights everywhere (you get tons of glare on your screen and green and red spots in your eyes when you look at them)..... most of them have been unscrewed by now
I wish we had these lights steppenwolf is talking about.... or just nice little desklamps....would make life so much easier ;o -
these articles look dodgy to me... they dont provide any source for that information....looks like a hoax... and first time i hear about this... but if its true, then that'd be really cool

meh, there will always be level designer positions, its a very important role. Only thing is there is more help doing it, contributors, etc. I ve researched many companies and thier projects and it seems more level designers are getting junior position contributors more then anything. This is to get more people including all roles into the industry to help build better games becuase of the resources they are beginning to take. Next Gen is the same old thing, just better looking games, relax peoples

Err what?
What do you mean by contributors?
