Since this is a professoinal recruitement thread I'm moving it into the appropriate forum. l3fty: Send a PM to Mikezilla or Mojo to get posting rights in that forum.

They're still a mod and they're not paying, so I feel inclined to move this back to the other forum unless there is a counter-arguement. NDAs don't make it "professional."

    wtf is decay :/

Decay was the two player co-op game that came with HL PS2. It wasn't terribly long (maybe 2 or 3 hours of playing if you were slow). There were a few two-player "puzzles," namely pressing buttons in different rooms. At one point, you can get trapped in an elevator shaft and have to use a team jump (ala Counterstrike and TFC) to get out.

Decay was one of the first things Mikey and I did at Gearbox. We got to playtest it over and over and over and over and over and over. I think once we had memorized where the enemies were, we speed ran it in less than an hour. The best day of playtesting was when the final boss had a bug in his code that basically gave him infinite health. Mike and I did not know this at the time and spent over and hour holding our own against him before we finally ran out of ammo.

Oh, one last funny Decay story: During playtesting, a kid in a wheelchair came to playtest with us. I don't remember exactly why, but I recall that his mom worked in the building and thought he'd enjoy it for a few days. He also had some mild developmental disabilities that made it hard for him to process things and talk. So we just set him up with a PS2 and let him be. Oddly enough, one of the main AI characters in the game is a scientist in a wheelchair. At one point, this character gives each player a stack of grenades and then gets in a confined train with them. Since our job was to try to break the game as much as possible, Mike an dI started throwing grenades at the guy in the wheelchair (video game, not real life). He explodes and the game ends because you lost. Rather loudly, I comment that if you blow up a guy in a wheel chair, there shouldn't just be meat gibs. There should also be wheelchair gibs. I don't think the kid in the wheelchair liked me after that. But for at least one build, there were metal gibs when you blew up the character.

Valve didn't even own it until post-1.6, did they? Still all Ben Morris up to that point. Is that even the right name?I'm lame - GTK 1.5 is now up and running on my end

The shareware pop-up says the copyright belongs to Valve LLC. You had to register at http://www.worldcraft.com which is domain camped right now.

  • So Al-Zarqawi got owned...

How can they be absolutely sure he's dead though, or that he was even at the place they attacked? Though hopefully he is dead, as if it will make any differance if he is.

They already pulled dental records and birthmarks off of the body. After the US has put so out so many of those "we think we killed blah blah blah" only to be proven wrong later, you know they did their fact checking first before announcing something this big.

Apparently, most of the top aides were with him at the time, so whoever is going to be filling in the power void is going to be from the B team.

You could always pull it off isohunt. But that owuld be bad.... I guess.

On funnier news, Worldcraft 1.6 for Quake and Quake 2 is so retro it's funny. Plus, it's shareware and I'm supposed to register it with Valve by going to a website that doesn't exist or calling a phone number that isn't connected.

Op4, simply for adding the only decent sniper rifle to the HL universe.

I'll say this a thousand times: fuck the crossbow in it's lagging ass.

It all depends on what your definition of pollution is and what your measuring stick is.

In total volume, America leads in greenhouse gas emissions.

Per capita, Australia leads in greenhouse gas emissions.

In both total volume and per capita, America leads in solid waste.

However, Australia has signed the Kyoto Accord and is implementing it. America (read: Bush) did not sign Kyoto and is reversing previous environmental protections.

Moral of the story: oxygen bubbles and tin foil hats for everybody!

JANET was formed in 1983, the British contribution to the net would be the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee, who imo is one of the more under-appreciated Brits if not the most.

Didn't he get knighted for his work?

Gore didn't invent the net cdxx. He just coined the term "information systems highway" when he tried to get all the schools hooked up to the net. The internet evolved from a U.S. military program known as DARPA.

    The exact quote is

    Quote from Al Gore

During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

Which is true. He was one of the main backers in pushing for the Internet as we know it to spring from its original beginnings. He helped put in place the financial deals that let the groundwork get put in place for ISPs and such. He never claimed he designed it, so it's just a little political fudging. The whole "Al Gore invented the internet" thing came from a Republican Party fundraising newsletter a few weeks later.

Oh, and the original netowrk wasn't called DARPA. It was ARPANET, which was run by an Defence Department organization (ARPA) that would later be called DARPA. DARPA (Defense Andvanced Research Projects Agency) also helped give birth to NASA, high caliber deflection armor, high energy weapons, cruise missles, and infrared sensing. Recently, they ran the Grand Challenge which had unmanned vehicles navigate a rough course using various arrays of GPS, FLIR, video techonology, land mapping cameras, etc. It was really cool if you're into robotics. Or just read Slashdot too much.

I'm going to shut up now.

Gun also has some rail shooting levels. Much like the rest of the game, they are way too simple and boring.

It is my understanding that the only form of polution that we are a leader in, would be car emissions.

We also burn more coal and natural gas than any other country. Coal emissions being about the worst thing out there. Acidic black smoke of death. We also create more cubic solid waste (both in total and per person) than any other country. In general, Americans shouldn't throw any stones in regards to energy policy.

As for measuring the revenue of the film, if it made 1.3 million at 77 venues, that's actually excpetionally good. That's about $18,000 per screen for the weekend. An average hollywood movie is usually bringing in $1,000 per screen (except on big opening weekends).

I'll probably catch it on DVD. It's not that I'm uninterested, it's just I don't need to be sold. That's the problem with these movies. If you're already inclined to hear the message (less polution, more green energy), you'll see it. If you're disinclined to hear that message, you'll avoid it. Very few people will see it casually (usually because they are friends with the first group).

That being said, I've always liked Al Gore. He really is a good public speaker. He just had a shitty time of it during his presidential run. If you want to see some unbelievably energetic speeches from Gore, watch the documentary The War Room about the Clinton/Gore '92 campaign. He was on top of his game back then (if you're in to politics or like watching things like The West Wing, you'll also enjoy The War Room).

Ah yes, Barking Dog. They also did the expansion for Homeworld. For some reason Sierra got them to do it instead of the original devs, Relic.

It's because Barking Dog was formed from guys quitting Relic. So they already had first hand experience with Homeworld, and were willing to make the expansion for a whole lot less.

i updated my ATI drivers right before playing it the first time and haven't had too many issues.Once in a while Ep1 will freeze on a level transition and I'm forced to do a hard reboot. Otherwise, it seems to run fine.

Hehe, I updated my ATI drivers about a week ago and then it took me 2 hours to free my computer from the evil which is ATI's interface. I miss the days of non-memory hog software.
