Am I supposed to know who or what FunnyJunk and The Oatmeal are?

Saw it yesterday in IMax 3D, really liked it. Of course it's not a perfect movie but was pretty enjoyable all the way through.
Overall one of the best sci-fi flicks in recent years imo. 8.5/10

I know the hardcore guys who played civ4 to the death hates it, especially because of the reduced complexity and of the army system that won't let you stack units on a single case; but personally i prefer it much more like it is right now :], you have to build a waterproof front and use flanking techniques to win which is much more realistic; even if the scale is off.
I dunno. Singleplayer was a lot better in Civ4. Discovering new religions and building new landmarks was actually meaningful since they had special videos for that and shit. I also think it was easier to see the cities progression in Civ 4. Basically Civ 5 is a more streamlined and polished game but Civ 4 feels more special to me

I love indies in the sense that I can freely apply my ideas into a full game, testing concepts that I find to be innovative without that boring obligation to convince a mindless director/ lead that the game proposal is worthy.
Well that's a bit of an over generalization. Just because you are not working on small games in your basement it doesn't mean you won't have any freedom. To be honest most of the game designers I know in the industry (from many different studios) enjoy a great amount of freedom - of course inside the scope/proposal of the game. As a rule of thumb you are being paid to do a specific type of game, not to be brilliant or genius. It's pretty much the same for artists, we usually enjoy a lot of freedom inside the art direction of the project.
I also find it a bit weird how a lot of people with zero industry experience (looking at you brazilian developers) generally just hate the industry and despise anything backed by a major publish. These same guys are always trying to show how brilliant they are, even though they have zero industry experience. Everybody wants to be the next Jonathan Blow or Notch while having never worked on anything more complex than angry birds clones.
Experience is key, and no better place to get it than surrounding yourself with talented/more experienced people than you. I just think the major goal of those dudes should be to try to get a job in a proper game studio, anywhere in the world, gain production experience and only after that try the indie route. I know a lot of guys who started on the indie scene and are gonna be stuck on it forever, because they are pretty much always doing the same things locked in their rooms being super grumpy about the industry.
As I said once in that same mailing list, the only difference I see between AAA games and indie games is the scope and budget. At the end of the day they are both game products and the production methods should be pretty much the same.

I hate it when indie developers see themselves as the guerrilla activists fighting against the big greedy industry. Some of them take that to the extreme, to the point of becoming retarded. I remember a guy on a dev mailing list once saying that he'd rather watch a presentation by a simple guy who made an indie game in his basement than a presentation with a AAA concept artist who worked in a team of 500. That makes no sense at all. It doesn't matter how big your team is, you should always be looking for ways to work faster and better and honestly it doesn't matter where this knowledge comes from.
I mean if I were to work on a small indie game now I'd use the exact same skills I'd use on a AAA game. The difference is just the scope.

thass a cool weather broso i wish it rained more in irvine every day is the same weather here
-
the inde devloers teh saviors of the industrey making cool games nobody cares lomao

Game is fun for a while but extremely boring towards the last turns. The AI is completely broken and sometimes goes from 100% friendly to 100% aggressive in just one turn.
Even though they made some cool improvements here in there, I still think Civ 4 is a more rewarding game overall

Looking cool man! I thought you guys were using modular pieces for trims, walls and stuff though? What exactly is brushwork on those pics?

Why even ask? It's easy to hate Portugal, especially if you're Dutch. You don't remember the last game between Holland and Portugal?

I did not want to reply at first but this comment is really bothering me. Could you elaborate how you have come to this conclusion?
Market saturation, specially with garbage titles. The same happened with the tween/casual market on the DS and Wii and the mobile market.
You're implying that free2play titles are low quality games, but if anything this move by Crytek shows that AAA developers have begun to adjust to the f2p model. Yes, all the money that is being pumped into the space will consequently mean that there will be many more f2p games and many will suck, but the idea is disruptive and the change is happening. I don't see the iOS app market collapsing due to over saturation caused by f2p. The top performing games are f2p titles and the pressure is on those developers who charge for an upfront price, because consumers now expect to play a base version of the game for free.
I have yet to play a freemium game that doesn't suck. One you could play for 200 hours. When you develop a game prioritizing ways to monetize it through microtransactions since the beginning the rest suffers from it. TF2 is an exception because it started as a retail game. Imagine if TF2 was a F2P title about hats since the beginning. I doubt it would be as good as it turned out to be.
Everything that's "free" comes with a cost. I'd rather pay cheaper for my games than playing them for free and ending up spending money on virtual items so I can progress faster.
Another problem with current freemium games is that you don't learn anything from them. They are just time wasters to make you spend money on microtransactions. Imagine if Sim City 3000 was a F2P title with a barebones selection of buildings and you had to pay real money to acquire new ones, new subway systems etc... Where would be the fun in that?

Yeah I understand, I just hate seeing the torrent of hate all the time. I know it's annoying having to wait but I think you guys will enjoy it when its out. And an MP demo would have been rather cool I guess, just to whet people's appetites! But then again they are a small dev team and may not have the resources to focus on that, when they could be polishing the final game.
I agree with this. A "lite" mp version of the mod released earlier wouldn't hurt
