    Nice, I like this color scheme better. you could also add specular maps to your wallpaper textures, to make the patterns stand out more. Something like this:

    Little something for a speed texturing challenge at game-artist.net. The base mesh wasn't very good and I couldn't find any references that looked anything like it... anyways I think it's decent, however it could look much better. Illustration was made in Adobe Illustrator.

    I think you need to be clearer on what you are looking for. The header reads "level designer" but there isn't much level design in there. The first map looks good, is finished and definitely should be there. The second one also looks good but besides looking unfinished you also said you never finished it because you disregarded the layout completely. That's very contradictory because generally a level designer takes care of the level layout and artists do the beauty afterwards. Your portfolio doesn't contain any art pieces either, giving the impression that you haven't really decided what to do yet. And yeah, never say negative things about yourself in your CV/Portfolio, they are meant to sell yourself not to expose your weaknesses.

    On the aesthetics side:

    * I think you could use the same amount of thumbnails for each level, so they are aligned to each other. One of the keys to consistent design is repeating key elements, like colors, alignment and so on. Philipk's portfolio is a good example of this. Notice how the links have the same width as the header and how well he defined the visual hierarchy, giving each heading a different color/size.

    * Too many different alignments. The links are aligned to the right of the page while all the rest is aligned to the left.

    * The links need to stand out more, they are kind of "floating" and out of place now. Maybe you could try to incorporate them to the header or if you keep them where they are now try to align them to the left of the "level designer" title.

    * The background image shouldn't repeat, leave it fixed. If you are using CSS you can try this:

    Code
    body {

    background: url(image.gif) #backgroundcolor repeat-x;

    }

    * The entire website has to have a minimum height, since you are using a footer. Notice how short the CV page is in comparison to the work page.

    * Here's an awesome article that helped me a lot when I started designing pages:

    Hope that helps

    Killertomato: I just state the obvious. I consider myself agnostic btw. I don't know if god exists or not. All i know is that there has never been a single piece of evidence that god is that what is written in the so called "holy" books. But on the other hand is shitload of evidence that proof these books wrong.

    If god is a caring, loving shepard like the bible suggests why is there so much brutality, suffering and unfairness in this world? Why has prayer evidently no statistical effect on the destiny of believers compared to non-believers? If he can perform miracles on sick people like believers think why has he never performed one on a amputee? If he is almighty why does he need prophets to teach people "the truth" about him? Wouldn't it be much more effective if he showed everyone personaly the truth? I come to the conclussion that god if he really exists is either unwilling or lacks the ability to change things. Therefore i see no reason to care about him or believe in the nonsense written in old books.

    Funnily enough I got into an argument with my mom earlier today when I asked her that if god gave us freedom that means he can't interfere in our lives, otherwise what would be the point of said freedom? But the point is, why does he supposedly interfere in the lives of those who pray? Sounds very paradoxal.

    Very nice man, looks epic, I love the sun rays

    I'm not sure about the water, can't really put my finger on it but it must look a lot better ingame. Don't know if you are ever touching this again but some moss on top of those rocks surrounding the village would be pretty nice.

    What are you studying by the way? Is it a game design course or an arts one?

    Looks solid What's up with the door leading to nowhere on top of a building in the second screenshot? As for the aesthetics I think you can improve the lightmaps here and there.

    I also think it needs more granary catwalks

    My disgust for Catholicism has its root since I was born, mainly because it was imposed over me just like every other kid. I had no choice but go to the church on sundays, listen to boring and meaningless prayers and then go home to see my parents doing exactly the opposite of what the religion told them to do. I'm not saying they were perverts or anything, they were normal people but if they did exactly what they were told to by the religion they wouldn't live their lives. What is it with society that when someone says he doesn't have a religion he is instantly labelled as immoral? Anyways, as a kid I forced myself to believe in god because I'd go to hell otherwise. At least that's what older people told us. And then I started having history classes at school and learned about the inquisition and totally hated the fact the Church used to burn people alive just because they had another view of the world, amongst other cruel things (they were also responsible for converting the native brazilian indians and enslaving them afterwards). There's a saying here "you only get to know a person when you give him power" and that's valid in this case. I also started questioning the Bible, Jesus etc... It made no fucking sense at all, besides the fact that it was rewritten quite a few times, according to the needs of powerful people, so if Jesus really existed and spoke the truth it's totally distorted now because of those "revisions".

    And then I decided to reject anything catholic because it didn't represent the world I wanted to live in. That was one of the best things I have done to my life, as I can see how much freedom I have now and figured you can actually be a "good person" without the need to pray or listen to preachers (everyone else told me the opposite). That doesn't mean I don't believe in anything, I know there must be some sort of after life but I have no idea what it is and until I witness it I'll refuse to believe in any religions.

    I'm ok with other people's beliefs though, I just get pretty mad when people try to convert me or judge me because of my beliefs

    I modeled a cool 3dsky building for ins_abdallah last night. Been willing to make one for years

    [Blocked Image: http://ftp.insmod.net/users/minotaur0/screenshots/3dsky_building01_mino.jpg]

    (I know the top parts are very blurry, I'll replace them with tiling textures instead of using the same uvmap as the rest of the building)

    Hey guys. I've been getting this all around my INS map, whenever I add a displacement overlapping a world brush it turns to pure black depending on your view angle. Isn't that possible in Source? I also make the brushes above the ground before converting them to displacements but I still get this error. Example:

    [attachment=1]abdallah_displacement1.jpg[/attachment]

    [attachment=0]abdallah_displacement2.jpg[/attachment]

    I also hate it how the decals I apply on such displacements always flash ingame. They look full bright depending on the view angle, even if they are 100% in the shadows.

    Mino, those awning things are exactly what I need! looks like a great INS addition with the exception of a few lighting peculiarities that are just source's fault.

    What peculiarities? I haven't really worked on the lightmaps yet, except for a few areas. Maybe you are talking about the tree? Yeah I hate that too, it looks like it's floating in the air but it looks ok when are you moving around ingame.
