From what I've heard that guy has in fact left IW and been drawn into the greater Activision organism to work on "Special projects".

    More like..."brainwashing"!!!

CompoSITe: Rick is being genuine. He isn't the type of character for sarcasm. When he thinks your game stinks and you are full of shit he would outright tell you!

You know what this whole discussion reminds me of? The "L4D2 stand-alone title announcement" drama. I don't hear anybody crying about this anymore. So instead of everybody running around screaming "IW have become puppets of Activision - lord have mercy Bobby Kotick has come to fuck us in the ass WAH WAH WAH" we could all chill down a little and wait until there is an official response from IW about this. Just sayin'..

Edit: I must admit, the "UNITED WE STAND - DIVIDED WE FALL" PC gamer sticker is pretty hilarious!

You guys should listen to the latest Bonus Round to hear what Pachter has to say about this and Microsoft's strategy for XBL. It's not mindblowing because anyone who can read between the lines has seen this coming for years now, but it does a nice job at summing it all up in one sentence.

The gist of what Pachter says: "Microsoft wants everybody to play all games on the 360, especially those with MP, so they can rake in the XBOX Live memberships. It's a profit decision." - couldn't you have said this, so I didn't have to look for the line in the latest bonus round?

I've got a 360 and a bunch of games, but each time I play a PC game that I enjoy, it's 100 times more fun than any experience I had on the 360....ok except for Guitar Hero, which was the primary reason why I bought the console in the first place (that's nothing to be ashamed of right? RIGHT? ). Even if Pachter says "PC is so 90's", it can't hide the fact that I'm probably spoilt for the rest of my life!

As far as MW2 goes - I got MW1 for the PC and I said before that I loved the MP part. I'd get MW2 almost exclusively for playing online, but I will not pay a monthly fee for having to use a controller. I don't like their plans with the matchmaking stuff, but I'm not furious about it. More so I am concerned about the general direction that PC gaming is going. Maybe in a few years there will only be big games being released on consoles and there are only garage studios developing indie games for the PC, sort of like shareware. Then the PC platform has finally come full circle

Hehe the guy forgot to hide the helper (yellow ball) in the gravity tunnel that the player is attached to during the ride, you can still see it (in editor mode) ;O

Lord Ned: A map would have helped indeed, but there were no ressources to implement a 3D map feature.

I will definately be buying MW2, look at it. It is fucking dripping in quality. The SP story looks mondblowingly good. Along with a co-op side story? Fuck yes sign me up for that shit mother fucker.

Composite, could you please pass this comment on to the marketing folks at Activision and ensure this is put on the box of the game?

If he still thinks he's one of these small companies he's not fooling anyone. Truth is any money Valve gets is taken from 2K, who in turn may cut it short with GBX, but that's hardly Steam's fault. You don't hear publishers complain, you hear 1 3rd party developer.

The quote in the article on joystiq is cut off, here is what Shacknews cites:

    Quote

Valve is taking a larger share than it should for the service it's providing," he said. "It's exploiting a lot of small guys. For us big guys, we're going to sell the units and it will be fine.

There is no solid and sound anti piracy measure except releasing on the same date all over world.

Unless your game is already circulating on the web before it even hit the shelves. Happens often enough.

that makes sense, but what i really don't understand is how he goes on to valve and doesn't somehow reap some sort of ridiculous windfall from its ongoing success.

i would think that at the very least, he'd be able finance the project himself while living in his parents' basement.

If the deal he made with Valve didn't include any royalties, there is no reason why he would receive ongoing payments after he sold the rights to Valve. Also keep in mind paying the bills for the production of the game, even if the core team is very small and the costs for freelancers is low, is a burden over the development of months or even years. When I hear things like:

That doesn't sound to me like he cut a whole lot of money out of the deal.

Thats where I worked at in Korea for 2 months, its Source and as he mentioned in the interview, the core team is very small.

Why only for 2 months? It didn't work out or did you have to return?
