Wait, wtf? Peris is moving to irvine?I live like 15 minutes from Blizz HQ!

Can you pick him up at the airport? I'd feel better if I knew that Peris is taken care of by a local who is not in a Mexican street gang.

You are not in a gang are you?

I could imagine that this limited edition sells very well, hell even I fell for it just to play the game early For a change I think EA got the release date right this time, I bet lots of MW2 players other than me move on right to this.

In the BF2 demo you had much more freedom to tackle capturing a point from whichever direction. You could sneak around a lot more. Everything feels to forced and confined, especially if you're in a vehicle. Despite the destruction it lacks playfulness and doesn't really feel like a battlefield.

You and me seem to have completely opposite ideas of a "battlefield" then. Exactly because the gamemode focuses on a specific area (2 targets at a time), it makes the experience so intense to me. The map is huge, yet the action takes place in confined areas at a time. At any time, there is mayhem everywhere! That's an accomplishment in my book. I must admit, the many structures are often a bit iffy to navigate around in a vehicle and if you are used to vast landscapes and roaming around (desert combat *cough*) without being shot all the time, then this map/gamemode is probably not for you. Both of us can be happy though, because there surely are plenty of other different modes and maps in the full release

    lol @ Psy

I just played for 2 hours, been a while that I have played a BF game my first impressions have been mentioned by others before, but to summarize:

    - No prone????

    - The kill message (as in when you killed sb) should be a lot better visible *nods to Dux*

    - I agree with Goglebag, the weapons feel a lot more powerful and cool in CoD games. It is more satisfying to get a frag in MW2. That isn't an essential problem and Battlefield and CoD are two different pair of shoes but killing dudes is the central aspect of the game and if that isn't cool...just sayin'

+ They nailed the "battlefield" experience. Amazing sounds, particles ...

+ I'll have to play a little longer to base an opinion on the destruction system, but so far I believe it's a nice, properly done addition and adds a cool tactical element. Mowing down a complete forest to uncover the snipers? Awesome, not to mention the destruction of entire buildings...sure there is some of that in Crysis, but I don't think it has played such a big role in gameplay (pardon me if it has been the same in the first BC, I haven't played that one so this is new to me).

To summarize: You've got a degree, you've applied at 50+ companies (entry positions), your English is excellent (naturally), you've got level-design, modding, 3D modeling software experience, you're willing to relocate - question is: why has nobody picked you up yet? Maybe it's a tough time to get your foot in the door, maybe lots of companies have odd job requirements or maybe your work isn't up to what other applicants show. I've got the feeling it's a mix of all these things. This probably better belongs to your portfolio thread, there is already a lot of good work-specific advise given there, but I really believe you need to work on the variety of your stuff. All I see is WW II, to make bad things worse most of it is for a MOD that isn't released yet. All of it is work for Source or even Gold Source, instead of applying at more companies maybe you should build a kick-ass map for a recent game (that is not WW II themed). Or you get that MOD out of the door, so you can impress by putting this as a released project on your resume. Something that you've worked on from start to finish and that X many people are playing.

Apologies in advance for being so brutally blunt about it, but it seems to me that you're stuck in a dead end. You can either send out more applications and hope for the best or work on your stuff and get a gig that might be a hundred times better than the one you would have gotten with your old portfolio.

So I've been looking for level design jobs with little success, as mention before the "Level Designer" job is pretty rare these days. Most things I've come across have been Junior Designer jobs, where you plan and block out the levels.

errm two things: What's the problem with applying for a junior position? Because you've got a degree? Without any industry experience you are going to have a haaaard time finding a company that gives you a full blown level-designer seat in their office. Secondly, planning and blocking out a level are two key elements of a level-designer's job! No matter if you are junior, regular or senior. Better get used to it

    Quote from Ginger Lord

However the true wtf bit is so far all these jobs, despite no mentioning of programming at all, have all required me to have A Level Maths. I have no idea why and A Level Computer Science (which included programming!) isn't acceptable so far.

    Regarding A level maths: Indeed

I'm getting the suspicion that you aren't looking for a level-designer position/that you want to do something else, because you bring up programming multiple times. Sorry if I don't know or forgot your history of applying, if you can sum it up quickly, maybe me or others can help.

MW2 is getting boring and this looks really good. I haven't played the first Bad Company but enjoyed every BF game before that.

I think I might cancel my pre-order with Amazon and spend an extra £10 just to have the convenience of Steam and early access to the beta.

Heh this is exactly my thinking. I was about to preorder it with Amazon, but I'll go with Steam now. Digital distribution winning once again!
