Great production values and I love the lushness of all the environments. Still feels a bit floaty from being a Unity platformer. That said, you guys really need to get a writer on-board to do a pass on your dialogue and sign text. This could all be so much more charming if you had someone workshop your words. All the characters talk the same, and in general it's just way too many words. She doesn't talk like a teenager. The talking cat professor kinda talks like a professor -- well, a bad professor whose class everyone skips.

We had someone do a pass on the dialogue and sign text. Maybe not a good enough writer?

aren't you an admin as well

Oh, hi Rick! I thought you had left again (for the 12th time). Yes, I am part of the admin staff, but I know I don't have the time to do the changes mentioned here (aside from the fact that I'm not nearly as skilled as Thrik as far as web development goes). So I know how hard it is and I hope Thrik can pull it off, but he has got a full-time job as well, so yeah...I hope he knows what he's getting himself into!

this is still beta ? or finished product ?i have some problems with the jumping pod's, it is hard to say whats going on, when i use them to jump and i fall anywhere i'm getting back to the start of the jump, and thats is happening over and over again unless i have landed on some spot where the game wont throw me back, hope you getting what i'm saying

so i got irritated by this fact, and havnt play long, but i like the art style

It's work-in-progress, but the launchpads should be working. It's hard to tell from your description if the launchpads are working as intended and you don't like them or there is a bug and they just launch you somewhere into the woods. Maybe try it one more time to see if there is a change?

Sounds very cool but like...lots of work?! I hope you can find the time and motivation to do all this. I really appreciate everything you do for MapCore. Alone paying the bills for the hosting and maintining the forums as they are justify the donations, but many things have been promised over the past years, so I'll keep my praises for the time afterwards!

Love the game, hate the music. I know I've been bitching about this for a while but goddamnit, marketing people make so much money and the best they can do is put dubstep or industrial horns in every trailer?? :ssj:

I like this track actually and they use it playfyully/with a twinkle in the eye (96.5% more wub wub, the dancing claptrap etc.) which makes it work for me. I'm not sure who chose the music but Mike wrote the script for the trailer (maybe even directed it?).

Someone should make a video collage of all the objectives in the FarCry and Crysis series that relate to "disable the radio tower". Looks good though.

I suppose something for indie developers to take home from this (other than jealousy) is that this whole thing has drawn a lot of attention to the idea of crowdsourcing game development, and that actually it's a pretty cool concept regular people should perhaps get involved with more often. :derp:

I think it's cool because it probably got a bunch of people signed up on Kickstarter who have never backed a project before, but the idea to ask for money for your game project on crowd-sourcing sites has been going for quite a while among indie developers. Not sure if it's going to change that much for small teams. Like someone on the Twitters said yesterday: "Funding for universally beloved celebrity developers heading mid-sized studios with lengthy, proven track records will never be the same!"

Even when we were working on the console version of Crysis, it was 1 designer and multiple artists per level. Usually one to do the lighting, one to do the vegetation and terrain and one to do all the props. I have no idea how it was done for the original PC version however.

It varied depending on the mission but usually it was one level-designer (the "author") who worked with one or two 3D artists together who created the assets. When the layout and gameplay was pretty much final a special team came in to polish the visuals (painting decals, placing particle effects etc.). A commonly overheard phrase was "you can place decals all day long but don't you fuck up my AI! The crates stay where they are, those are cover objects!". We've never had lighting artists though... :derp:

I don't think they will go under. This restructuring will just make them competitive again, drop all the shit games that make no money and focus on some core franchises that work and have 1 or 2 new IPs every few years.

Many cancelled titles, several promising upcoming titles that are still far away though. Let's hope they don't shrink themselves into non-existence. Interesting read: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2 ... ing?page=1

Nope, Isaac's flash, which is how they managed to make it in two months (or was it four? Maybe that was Terraria). Isaac being flash is also why the controller options is "Google Joy2Key", to the great bemusement of people who expect their $1.25 indie roguelikes to meet their every demand with a curtsy (shitheads, in other words).

So, how the hell are they filling out not one but TWO discs for this release? What, HD video of random people playing the game? The game itself is only 216MB.

Maybe the coder from SMB wasn't involved in this project.

    In fact he wasn't.
