PSA - If you haven't picked up the game yet, amazon is selling Max Payne 3 steam codes for $40 this month. Could have sworn they were going for $30 a week ago, though. Also not sure if it is restricted to any countries, but worth a look.

I'll add to this that the game is 33% off on Steam now. I loved Max Payne I & II. Will this game let me relive these experiences or ruin my childhood memories?

    Also: Holy bazooka..hi Livinghell! :derp:

With each CoD release it's getting harder for Actiblizz to "up" the last one. I think they're doing a good job to make people forget that they bought almost the same game not too long ago. If you think that's applaudable is up to you

    No idea.

One thing to note on game soundtracks, though I know many devs here already are aware of this, is that often a big name composer is prohibitively expensive to do a full soundtrack (people like Trent Reznor, Michael Giacchino, Hans Zimmer, etc.). So they may be paid a big fee (but still within overall game budget) to do a main theme or a single track for a game. Then a publisher/developer negotiates to have rights to modify, extrapolate from, etc. additional music from that 1 track for use specifically in the game. So if you have a really talented music composer but isn't big name who also has the ability to do such extrapolation and what not, they just take what the celebrity composer does and kablamo...you have a soundtrack that hopefully fits in your budget while being "good" and then you can say things like

    [Blocked Image: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x-m63nfZ-8Q/T…/s320/trent.jpg]

However, even if he costs in the millions to do a full game soundtrack and other related audio engineering for the game, I don't imagine Activision not being able to afford him. But money is money so who knows.

    From Shacknews:

Video Games Live co-producer Jack Wall, who worked on the score for Mass Effect 2, composed the rest of the music for the game.

The extra time was one big siege in front of England's goal. Judging by ball possession, passes completed and shots at the goal the right team won. Pirlo demonstrated again that he is invaluable for Italy (the accuracy of his flanks is ridiculous) whereas the strikers Balotelli and Cassano failed to impress. Balotelli at least tried really hard this time and got close but to no avail. Buffon is still incredible. This awakes bad memories from the 2006 semi final and is not going to be easy for Germany.

I wish Portugal is going to beat Spain but I'm doubtful...

On the topic of the documentary: I have had been looking forward to watch it for quite a while, but I had been holding back until tonight. Watching the guys in the documentary go through these difficult emotional times is even harder when you can relate to their situation back then yourself. Overall it's a little behind my expectations, but still very much worth watching. I'm happy that everthying worked out fine for Team Meat and Phil Fish in the end. I met Phil at Nordic Game last month - he was fun to talk to (and jealous at Minecraft for breaking all XBLA records ). Maybe it was the pressure of releasing the game being off his shoulders, all I can say is he didn't come across to me as a jerk at all.

I have to agree with lukasan: boring match. France could have done worse, Spain wasn't as dominating as in previous games, but Spain didn't really have to fear the french offence either. Ribery was good but his teammates simply didn't/couldn't play on the same level. I didn't notice the French goalie to be particularly bad at goal kicks though.

Here is hope to tomorrow's game being more entertaining.

BTW, I think using replays would be a mistake. FIFA has always stated that they don't want to lose the human side of the sport and I agree. Bad decisions are part of the sport. If they allowed video replays it would just lead to interruptions all the time because a team demands video replay for every free kick. I think you could also expect things like results being changed after a game if a team wanted to challenge a referee decision with video evidence. I say keep technology out of football and just deal with the fact that people make mistakes. Sometimes you get unlucky and sometimes others get unlucky....it is what it is.

The thing that annoys me the most is that the UEFA claims the additional referee would solve this issue. I am basically paraphrasing Urs Meier (a retired FIFA referee): it is not humanly possible to determine whether the ball passed the line or not. No human referee can reliably do this, because the human eye is not built for that. It happens in a split-second and the ball and goal post don't even have distinctive different colours.

I think the chip would be the best option, because it solves the problem (if the technical implementation is solid) and it doesn't open up the flood gates for video proof.

On the topic of CZE vs POR: well deserved win.

Thing is people might complain that England got lucky last night and Ukraine were cheated out of a goal, which is fair enough but has everyone forgotten the disallowed Lampard goal in the World Cup against Germany a couple of years ago? It's actually refreshing to see a decision like this go in England's favour for once, what goes around comes around

So that makes it more fair? And what does the Ukraine have to do with it? I'm not even mad at England, it isn't their fault. I just feel with the Ukrainians, because the match could have taken a different turn if that goal had been recognized. Just like Lampard's goal should have been recognized in 2010. The question is whether we want to do something about it moving forward...Well, the actual question is whether the UEFA & FIFA want to do something about it.

Do those referees by the goal posts at least sell snacks to the fans? After last night's game I'm not sure if they are good for anything else. Seriously I can live with all kinds of bad referee decisions, but when a goal isn't recognized despite a referee watching it in close proximity - it's too unfair. Use video footage!

We'll see if England will get this lucky again in the quarter final. Italy will be harder to beat. Portugal is picking up momentum and will most likely beat the Czechs. France will have a hard time against Spain when they lose 2:0 to Sweden and Germany will give the Greeks another reason to hate us on Friday

I'd say expect f2p and more mobile games by Epic, too.

Like the editor I have doubts that this law is going to pass at least in its current shape and form. I hope it isn't going to. However since SK is the homecountry of f2p and in many ways ahead of the curve, it is concerning what nasty side effects a virtual item economy can have...

Digital Chocolate has recently gotten into trouble and more studios are going to fall as social gaming is approaching the "trough of disillusionment". Since Facebook has drastically reduced the visibility of the apps the golden days are over. One of the reasons why Heiko Hubertz (CEO of Bigpoint) emphasized the importance of having diverse channels to reach users. Zynga was at the right time, at the right place - now it's biting them in the ass, people start to realise it isn't going to continue doing as well as before and people get more realistic expectations - which is a good thing.

Zynga is picking up mobile game studios left and right, I'm wondering do they have plans to launch an own mobile app store where they can control virality? Maybe they have already announced something like this, it's what I would do (if that's even allowed by Apple).
