When your art/sound is obnoxious and the game crashes all the time, that will obviously affect how enjoyable your experience is. Looking at it merely from a game design point of view, I think there are some general observations that can be made. Marcel Zons of Innogames recently published a blog series on the "4 pillars of fun" (& supporting pillars). He specifically wrote it as a response to manipulative psychological tricks in social & mobile games, so don't dismiss his views because he's working for an F2P company just yet. In a nutshell he mentions the following pillars as elements for a fun game (I like the structure):

    • Mastery (strategy, reaction, logical thinking, knowledge)
    • Novelty (vivid game world, storyline, unique game mechanics
    • Autonomy (freedom of movement, choice of progression, choice of consequences)
    • Community (competition, cooperation, fame)

    Supporting Pillars:

    • Rewards (badges/achievements, items, virtual currencies)
    • Progress (experience levels, building)
    • Social Pressure (forced specialization, group challenges)

You can read the full articles here: http://blog.innogames.com/author/marcel

For a more elaborate take on this topic you can also read Jesse Schell's 'book of lenses'.

I heard having an M16 Assault Rifle in your game always helps, too.

Hope my gravedig is not annoying.

Zynga buys UK game-maker NaturalMotion for $527m

friend of mine works in the London office, I hope no cuts are on the horizon for these guys.

I literally yelled out "NOOOOOOO" when I read this

EDIT: To clarify, I'm happy for Torsten Reil et al but if Zynga's past is anything to go by then this is bad news for NM. Don Mattrick, you're our only hope...

So you want to become a Producer at a game development studio? I think dipping your toes into as many aspects of game development can only be beneficial in that case. It shows that you know what different members of your team actually do and it helps to understand them. Many Producers have actually worked as designers, programmers or artists profesionally before. They understand the workflows and obstacles a team faces during development. Most importantly though they can coordinate a team, put the project first and can communicate well.

Having said that if you already KNOW that you want to become a producer, I wouldn't recommend to build a portfolio to move into design or art first. To me that's two different kinds of people: those who would like to work creatively and those who prefer to work in a management role. And building up the passion for one thing to get to the other feels wrong to me I'd try to somehow get project & team management experience and then move into an assistant producer role. Just my 2 cents.

    - Narrow my focus down or choose to remain a generalist.

Putting your work out there and asking for criticism can be frightening and I applaud you for doing this! Here's what I thought/asked myself when I visited your site: what job does he want? The jobs market is not that different from any other market. Employers usually have a demand for a person with a certain set of skills who can solve a specific problem/do a specific job. So think about what you want to do/can do and present yourself accordingly. "I am a computer graphics generalist" sounds very wishy-washy. You've got a couple of logos at display in the 2D Art section and 2 overview shots of Starcraft II maps is also a little light for a level design section. I can't really judge the 3D Art, looks to me like you're on a good path there, but sadly there aren't any shots of the assets in-game. My advice before you continue tinkering on the presentation or the website itself is to figure out what you want to do and then keep banging at it!

I'm not interested about this nor have the skill to apply, but the fact you don't have an avatar screws the clean presentation of this beautiful forum, it really bugs me so I post here.

A PM would have done the trick as well....

I hope you'll find someone to help you out on this one, Hourences.

I've been following this project for a few months and the devs have just announced a kickstarter. If you like The Witcher, Mount & Blade, Skyrim (this game will not have any dragons though) or you're interested in medieval times in general, check it out (and back): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/12942…ome-deliverance

I've been using FB a lot more again recently. Ther's a large number of art and job related groups with cool stuff to look at, daily tutorials, references, artists to follow etc. It's actualy quite a nice site when your newsfeed gets spammed with this sort of thing instead of pictures of ppl's kids and "funny" motivationals.

They opened up the heart and cleared out the excess liquids that had been built up. They then did an electrical conversion to take care of the pulse issues (that's when they intentionally stop the heart and then "jolt it" back up again).
