Well, the techdemo has to at least show what the AI is like.

Not a techdemo for a graphics engine update. HDR here, HDR there, never heard anything about presenting improved AI. Oh well whatever...

What's the gameplay like, I thought it was just gonna be a techdemo (seriously).

on that note, is there supposed to be a moderator forum that i can see, because i heard something about it, but is it being used?

This thread made me notice that I became a mod in mapcore discussion, cheers for that.

I'm afraid that people will consider this global posting under a global name as spam or hostile act to take over their communities, which would result in angry people crapping all over this so tidy place.

But it might as well turn out to be a pretty good thing if the username mapcore stands for top notch levels. As the others said, if you use it with care and make each release of this group a real winner, it could be nice

hey guys. it's curious: i am bored but i got no motivation to do anything that would push the progress of my map. i hope spending time on other things will help. [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_e…t_shakehead.gif]today i made this texture and model:

I really could care less about the story, yet it is presented in such short snippets it does not really get to me too much. It always seems like the phone messages are "Hey buddy whats going on over there" or that the laptop messages are always "Hmm this is interesting, I dont know what it means, I'll look into it".

Yea it's a mixture of Doom 3 and FarCry. Voice files and guy on the radio.

Anybody noticed the big Alienware logo on the laptops?

I'm also playing it, good shooter, very straightforward. The first levels made my eyes bleed (the storage and sewers) the offices look way better. But as you can tell from the names of the environments, nothing new there. Monolith also hasn't outdone itself on the game design part, you simply shoot through friendly characters and get no feedback at all, the bullet time mode...well.... ...it doesn't work as well for me as in Max Payne (or in The Specialists), because you can't do any stunts. Except for the melee attacks which have been kinda useless to me till this point because I never get so close to an enemy.

Talking about enemies, the AI is very good I agree, the throwing over tables stuff etc. is scripted I believe, but jumping over railings, crawling beneath waist high obstacles and the like is quite good. They lean and fire out of cover rather well and move really fast which adds to the combat. Those stealth ninjas are also a cool unit, scared the hell out of me

I was impressed by the sound, I think it's pretty good and nails the mood of a room most of the time very well.

Overall a good game, haven't looked much into multiplayer yet.

And where are the guys who made BF2 now? They're looking for jobs.

Did I miss something? I only know that DICE bought Trauma Studios and shut it down a couple of months back, that was ice cold and had nothing to do with EA. If you refer to something else, let me know.

Finally let me repeat this quote again:Kosmo wrote:

Making games is an artform, something that is made out of love and not for sales.

Because I think that whenever you make a statement about the games-industry, you should check if it complies with this fact - otherwise it's bollocks!

You need to realize that game developers fight day in, day out for making games a generally accepted form of art. They mostly love what they do and try to create something fun and original.

Publishers want to sell as many copies of games as possible to compensate the costs and preferabbly of course make profit from it.

So why do game developers team up with evil publishers in the first place? Because someone needs to pay the bills. If you can't, you will find yourself at the unemployment office faster than you will like to.

Yes, making games is great if you are passionate about it, but you can't live from shits and giggles. Game developers aren't robots. So please don't be too romantic about the whole creation of games

At times you guys bash EA a little bit too much, as if Satan himself was running the corporation, with the goal to destroy all games.

You all played BF2, maybe battle for middle earth or c&c generals, black & white 2 just came oiut, the new bond game, nfs most wanted also looks fun...

I don't think the recent media frenzy is a reason to concern (heck we have that once a month in Germany, when papers got nothing else to write about), but I agree that some self grown problems in the industry may bite us in the ass later on. Games become more complex, require more people to create, increase development costs and risks because more copies need to be sold...

Maybe I'm ignorant and the future will prove me wrong, but I haven't had any fears of this sort either, as well as the people I work with have never expressed such fears to me.

You don't have time to think about it actually heh...you have different fears
