Another next-gen MapCorian has spawned, excellent.
Congratulations to you and your wife Andrew!

I'm wondering how he will get along with the cats.

Haha nice one ;D

Looks amazing, is that whole cage made in zbrush?
-
Oooh shiny new buttons! Keep going Mike

I'm no artist, but the mapcore letters look a little boring. Maybe the shading on it just looks too cheezy, I like the cube. Cube should stay

Old logo was better :\

The first thing anyone should suggest to someone interested in game development is to seek out these kinds of communites. That way you don't have to shoot down thier dreams by telling them they have no talent, you can let hunderds of anonymous people from the internet tell him.
The key is to keep trying until these people change their minds

So according to the news from yesterday, the Midway studio "Ratbag" located in Adelaide Australia was closed. Today I read that the studio in San Diego gets shut down!
Isn't that the place Zaphod worked last at? That would be really bad luck if that's so

If you want to build a specific system for the spotlight stuff I'd suggest a link that any (logged in) user can click in order to "vote" the thread into spotlight. Similar to the digg.com system I guess. It could be automated to move the thread after a certain number of votes are cast, or it could be flagged for admins to move manually. Names of voters should be exposed to admins. Only users with a modest (20?) number of posts outside of EOT should be permitted to vote.
If the spotlight system is automated, users should be able to flag inappropriate spotlight threads to be dealt with by an admin as he sees fit.
A rating system which moves 5 star (or cube) pieces (levels or models or textures..) into the spotlight! Very good!

OMAI NEW MAZZOL WEBSIET'!'"!+2#23§&$%~~
Looks cool mate, the comments function should be really cool. Maybe I should update my site too :\
-
Is it just me or does anyone else not care about the forum theme and version.

I think the looks should really be the last thing to think about, we don't desperately need new people here, but attracting talented minds with content is fine. People who only visit to see flashy images might as well stay away imo.

wait...idea brewing...this would take work, coordination yada yada, but what about a "Mapcore Article" or "Mapcore Analysis" or "Mapcore Review" every couple weeks about a hot new game or some industry development? We could possibly even conduct polls and runs some threads for members to comment on a particular topic, then we write up a good article on the subject with results of our quantitative/qualitative analysis/opinions. In the end, this could be a "hardcore gamer / game-designer" opinion about industry topic. Even a game review.
Quote from Pericolos0i would love writing some articles for the frontpage, maybe having a system where articles can be submitted (to be approved by the moderators) would be best for this.
I suggested an article system to Mike and Mojo about half a year ago, I think all of us were kind of fond of the idea, but sadly nothing became out of it.
It was surprisingly close to your idea Izuno, so I'm all up for it!
I agree that game news don't really work out, there enough other sites with a full staff. I guess game reviews are a sort of greyzone, we could have them but they shouldn't be the focus of the articles.
I was also thinking more about Industry related topics, MOD scene, interesting design approaches etc.
I think giving people the opportunity to submit articles which will then be reviewed either by the community or a commitee and get posted on the mainpage would be nice. So in first case the article would be posted here first in the forums, discussed, rated and then posted (or not), or it will be submitted to a commitee, internally reviewed, posted and then discussed.
I like the 2nd idea better, because variety and quality of the articles is ensured and the article lands on the mainsite when it's fresh and not when it has been discussed to death in the forums before (would increase the chances that it gets bumped by newcomers when it is already uninteresting).

Deckaux: The metal beam structures in the last pic look kinda odd and out of place, but the rest looks pretty damn fine, good luck on completing it in time!
Welcome to MapCore ken!

We should have strict rules, don't act like an idiot outside eot. And keep eot material inside eot. And because of that I'm removing my sig now.
Jezpuh = good example
Anyway, concerning the original topic of the thread:
I like the idea to award talent and exceptional members of the community, but as klein said, this still is meant to be a community in which everyone should feel comfortable and help each other, not boost egos.

Never played it, anyone remember "Striker" for the SNES? That was a whacky soccer game.
