Thanks, Chris! I'm also warming up to the idea to get a 4k. It is the direction things are moving and makes my purchase future-ready. Plus, as you said, prices aren't outrageous anymore. I'm eyeing this one right now: http://www.amazon.de/LG-49UB850V-LE…z/dp/B00JGKKX2K
Quote from jackophantHow far away will this TV be from you?
The distance won't be that big: ~3 meters. I took a look at some screens in a store today and while those 55" TVs look tempting I'm afraid they will appear huge in that narrow living room of ours. 40"-47" will probably be enough.
Quote from jackophantLook to LCD technologies which are "backlit with LED". They will try and swindle you into thinking the screen is LED, but in truth those are far more expensive.
At first this passage didn't make much sense to me, but after doing a little research on the different technologies, I understand what you mean. Thanks!
Quote from jackophant3D is up to you, if you think you'll use it, but some TVs have it included anyway.
AND DON'T BE TRICKED BY "SMART TVS". There is literally nothing smart about them. It usually means another poorly cobbled together user interface with a poor array of apps run by an incredibly lackluster CPU. Most new TVs are referred to as this anyway, but don't be too bothered if one you choose doesn't use another misinforming buzzword.
3D isn't important to me and I can certainly live without apps on my TV. But as you said, most of these gimmicks come with every new TV anyway nowadays. As far as 4k and curved displays are concerned, I'm not convinced that the extra-costs justify them.
The Samsung TV UE48H6270 or UE48H6470 seem appealing to me.
Thanks for the advice! ![]()
Hey folks, I'd like to buy a TV and was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on brand, type (LCD? LED?), features (3D?) etc. ? Anybody made a purchase recently that they are extremely happy/unhappy with? I'm pretty much clueless what recent developments in TV technology are concerned, so any advice is appreciated. Needless to say, aside from watching TV, gaming will be done on that screen ![]()

2nd place! #soclose
Still, a great achievement and cool prizes! Congrats to both of you!
Quote from CastleDisplay MoreSO I realize this is for WIP games but how about a game that was finished recently that I worked on then made some videos of me playing it! I played a big role in the design of this game. I pushed to get the project into development, reworked and designed its core elements and managed a team for 6-12 people to get it as far along as possible. By the time money problems at the company had been resolved I had already found work at another company. They managed to take what was there and finish the game from the condition it was before layoffs.
So here is a video of me playing a game I designed for the first time LOL
*For some reason I cant get this to link as a video.
Here is a link to the steam store page for Burnstar. bit.ly/1Em5kUq
I think this might deserve its own thread in the Work Release section ![]()
Don't look at it like you'd be doing the same internship twice. You've convinced them the first year that you are a valuable contributor and now you're going back to help some more. And think about how much you could actually learn and contribute in 4 months time: getting somebody integrated into the project/being productive takes time (especially on a junior level). That's probably why studios hardly hire interns - or only at least for a duration of 6 months... and think about the tasks you would then get assigned to : Eden already knows you and might give you more interesting assignments, so this does not sound like a bad option at all. Cheer up! ![]()
Regarding the very first picture: you posted a thread in the 3D section just a few days ago, asking if anybody knew the artist. Did you find the artist and team up or what's going on?
Quote from SteppenwolfDisplay MoreThis game is fun. It's like classic Sim City but with awesome road tools.
I tried building a town to be as shitty and unpleasant as possible but still have growth last night. Only used dirt roads. Crime soon hit 45%. Things started to get interesting when i got close to 5000 population. Thanks to having landfills and industry in the center of town and no clinics a public health crisis happend. I lost 2000 people rapidly with their corpses rotting in the streets. Even after building 3 hospitals i had over 2000 sick people and only 300 hospital beds. Thanks to drastic budget cuts and tax raises i managed to turn still a profit. There was dead, decay, fire and crime everywhere. It was like managing an African town during Ebola outbreak. Eventualy i cashed out with over 130k $ in the bank and almost all citizens dead.

Keep up the good work, mayor! ![]()
That is....pretty damn awesome ![]()
Source has the weaker tools but games like CS:GO or TF2 provide the players to create maps for and bigger asset libraries for mappers to use - as of today. I'd still encourage everyone to check out what Epic is doing now though. Download the Epic Games launcher/UT or see the image below to see what I mean. Selling of user generated content for UE4 has already begun. The engine is free now and there is tons of good documentation. UT is in a playable state and ready to map or mod for. You can share complete games for free or sell weapon skins. UE might not have the player base yet, but when Epic is bringing in a lot of users (be it through UT, Fortnite or other titles), you could benefit greatly as an asset creator in a blue ocean (be it through sales or mere exposure of your work).

Feels like just yesterday Arrowhead released their take on 'Gauntlet', but here they are - launching 'Helldivers' for Playstation consoles.

Looks really fun! Anybody giving this a try?
Just popping in to say that this map is looking promising and ask if you've seen 'Identitity'? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309698/?ref_=nv_sr_2
I watched the first 2 episodes and I'm loving it. Like in BB, the (more or less) innocent character that's desperately trying to make ends meet and is getting more and more corrupted can be seen here, too
The cinematography is great - especially in the first episode. I'm hooked!
TBH I've never seen much point in pre-ordering. Too many games that just don't live up to the hype. By now it's a rare occasion that I buy a game on Day 1 actually. 2nd hand discounts that you mentioned and especially sales on Steam make me wait a few months and then get the game for a lot less nowadays. F2P games also have an effect on my perception of prices surely and I'm not saying all of this is a good thing, but it's how I feel and I'm probably not alone.
The second point which might be interesting to discuss is if this is a warning flag for AAA developers on current consoles. The question of whether an SP game with that kind of production value is sustainable.
Quote from knjJust want to fuck you up even more, and Hatred is on Steam, officially, I've got my tshirt on me and can't wait
Do you wear a little skirt and a pair of pom poms, too?
A cool champion design for sure!
