Its a distrubition path.... it does not sell the game for you that is up to the makers themselves to create content worth playing and sadly compared to the many WW2 games out there I do not see RO being anything big
I totally agree with Klein, plus the fact that we discuss (and all major news websites as well) that RO will be released on Steam, is more attention than most games get.
Just noticed that they released a trailer: http://www.redorchestragame.com/

Same type of thing as taking 20 ambulances in a real life war and hiding 100 elite forces in their backs and then drive the ambulances to the enemy
...it's a good plan though

At the end of last week people in eastern bavaria had to shovel snow off their roofs so they wouldn't collapse :\

I think many people saw this coming, but damn, Valve knows how to make money.

Furthermore I am kind of disappointed that they did not go with a new idea or a new “game” because to me just hacking up your mod as a retail game is just fucking lame when you have a full engine license at your disposal and one that is not very cheap either.
Have you read the interview? I think Gibson made a good points about why they release a retail version of RO and not start a new game from scratch now.
They have a pretty solid knowledge about the Unreal 2.5 engine at the moment and got a game which is fun to play, so they decided to polish it and add some things on top of it. With the publishing deal they have got plus the distribution via Steam this is the best choice to make from a business point of view as well, especially considering this is a recently founded studio. Brings cash into the company before they start messing with the UE 3 engine.

Interesting read, it isn't really about the MOD itself, rather about the development and the team behind it, their role in the MSU contest and the company they founded from the money and license they won.
He also talks about MOD development in general:
QuoteWhat happens – and I learned this on other mods – you release a buggy alpha, no matter how good your ideas are, no matter how original they are, no matter how fun your concept is, if your execution is poor, you’ve left a dirty taste in the mouths of every fan that will ever try your game again. So many mods are doing this.
Whereas people like Erik Johnson from Valve preach that the only way to create a succesful MOD is to release many iterations of your MOD on the way to completion.
I'm wondering what you guys think about that

While touch sensing is commonplace for single points of contact, multi-touch sensing enables a user to interact with a system with more than one finger at a time, as in chording and bi-manual operations. Such sensing devices are inherently also able to accommodate multiple users simultaneously, which is especially useful for larger interaction scenarios such as interactive walls and tabletops.

The only times they're usually voided is if they are poorly written, or if they are deemed excessive (like prohibitting you to work for a competitor for a full year or something where you would lose everything you own because you can't work). As for the argument that it restricts your rights, that is essentially what any contract is. You agree to have certain rights restricted in order for compensation.
That sounds more reasonable and what law in Germany and other European countries is. You just can't write some contract with ridiculous restrictions and as soon as the other person signs it it is legal.
Whether the non competing clause could be considered excessive is debatable, I think for key positions it makes sense. If you are a top manager and have access to all the company's information and switch to the competition within one month this would be quite bad. However if mid profile employees who don't earn a whole lot are not allowed to work for 6 months or longer I think this clause is bs.

It's the first game that uses "DX10" and shader model 4

Looks awesome!
God that looks so mediocre. Looks like someone re-hashed Far-Cry and shat this out. Boring character, re-hashed setting, forced use of current political figures for no reason. Barf. I wouldn't play this game.
Another case of graphics taking the place of real gameplay. Fuck graphics-card bundle FPS games, they're killing the PC game industry.
FarCry wasn't just about graphics. It was also about long range gameplay, non-linear level-design and advanced AI. There is no reason to believe Crytek will drop these aspects and just push visuals from now on forward. The game will have multiple features which have not been seen in a game before, and I am not talking about soft particles or any other graphic related things, mark my words.
Oh, and I am looking forward to the next metal corridor railway shooter from Texas!
