Looks meh...I'm kinda sick of these overblown 'cool' movies. I'm OK with 1 QT movie every ten years if he can stay off the crack.

    This is madness!

One bad contact can cause keys all across the board to be flipped?

I checked the drivers, nothing unusual..I even uninstalled it, rebooted, only to see that they are there again. Maybe I gotta try it another time..

That is roughly what it looks like when I type with my laptop at home these days. I just loaded it up one day and it happened. It's as if I set the language bar to "1337 sp34k".

If I press "u" it types a "5", if I press "*" it types a "-". It's the same in every program and the same pattern each time I load up the machine, I just couldn't get any sense out of it.

My AVG is up to date and didn't find any virii, same with Search & Destroy for spyware.

Has anyone here encountered such a problem before? I'd appreciate any help!

    Thanks

FrieChamp, you couldn't possibly told us the specs of the system your working on, or give a range of what your working with?

Oh I definitely could, but it would be just a matter of time until I had a poisoned arrow in my back.

Well, scalability for the game is one thing, but I imagine FrieChamp hates the idea of editing on a min spec machine...

Everybody please stop posting such horrible ideas. The mere thought gives me the creeps.

One comment on the "tools experience <> creativity" discussion:

The more experience you have in this industry, the higher the position is you fill out, the less you will have to care about the software tools that are used to make the game.

A lead designer doesn't qualify himself by the experience he has in Sandbox/UED/etc. and an art director doesn't by his experience in Max or whatever.

Of course you need extensive knowledge in these tools, but it is knowledge that comes during the years of working your way up and after all - everybody can learn the tools. Some take longer to pick them up, some may learn them faster, but the real key to success in these creative fields is...well, creativity. If you don't have good ideas, you will most likely not be a good designer. If artistic creativity and imagination are not your strengths, the art director position may not be the job for you.

But when we are talking about "getting your foot in" - I suggest to master one tool instead of trying to learn as many tools as possible. Make one really cool level to demonstrate your experience with the engine/editor and that you understand what the gameplay ingredients for a fun level are. New ideas are (obviously) always good. If you already know which company you would most preferably work for - use their engine/tools.

I think as asset creation is getting more and more complex, the less custom content we will see. I think this was already apparent in FarCry as well as HL2.

    EA just found a new marketing techniquehttp://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/713/ ... ids_1.html

    remember ?

Just thank you for the prescripted bullshit, but why videogames do have to look like the lastest hollywood movie and not like videogames ?

Heh true. Yet I enjoyed watching both videos. Nothing to base a purchase evaluation on, but they are nice teasers, nothing more, nothing less!

no matter how well executed it is, i wouldnt care. i don't use anything like this on the computer, why would i do it on a playstation.

The way I see it - "Home" is a kind of virtual reality version of the internet for your console. Instead of Myspace, Chatrooms, ICQ, Trailer and game demo websites, you got it all in one 3D environment with yourself being personified by a customizable avatar. Oh and you can show off your interior design skills in your private house.

That somehow sounds amazing and horrible to me at the same time.

Must be fun to goof around with that stuff, if setting up AI is as flexible as everything else.

Definitely, our visual scripting tool "flowgraph" is quite powerful, but there is hardly any time for goofing around :\

The editor and other tools have also come a long way, let me assure you working with a "work in progress" engine/tools + a WIP game isn't always fun

But now that the tech is available we can finally start making the game WHOOPS!!
