You can say what you will about the real-time graphics award, but this is one category with an absolute 100% hands-down clear winner.
Oh I absolutely agree! Just like the "Most Addictive Game powered by Dew" award from the Spike TV show I was hinting at...naa all jokes aside, the "outstanding models or miniatures" award seems to be a more genuine award which has been given away before Halo 3's ad people decided to have all these miniatures in the commercials and the commercials did turn out to be pretty cool. There is reason enough to be suspicious though ![]()
@Peris/Hessi: Crytek has added graphical features to Crysis/Cryengine2 in real-time, that other studios fail to accomplish in still renders (be it games, movies,...). None of your cynicism will take that away ![]()
Yea, I would also feel sad for Leipzig...aren't there enough conventions in Cologne and Frankfurt alone already? It would be a bigger loss for Leipzig/the east of Germany than a gain for Cologne I'm afraid.

Na not losing any, it's just taking ages getting it to grow long..or more specifically the sides take longer, then i need to go to the hairdresser to get it back into shape, but then she cuts off too much bleh...also my hair is very "thin" which can result in an odd look, so yea, eventually I'll just get back to short hair, less hassle ![]()
PS: Par-tay! ![]()
I think it's cool they added Turok, but that's gotta be the dullest screenshot you can find ![]()
A transcription of some of the topics talked about by EA CEO John Riccitiello at the D.I.C.E summit:
QuoteHe mentioned Bullfrog, OSI and Westwood as examples of creative failure: "We at EA blew it. To a degree I was involved in these things, so I can say I blew it."

Would have loved to hear the whole speech...sounds like he talekd quite openly/casually, financial reports aren't this interesting :-|
Yea that was great! Brings back quite some memories and makes you realize how much technology advances over time.
Sounds like a jolly good time, have fun peepz ![]()

2004? Man, time flies
Looks very "old school", I agree...a bit underwhelming to be honest, I wish the pillars (of which there are plenty) had more detail, they look like 6 sided brushes right now (hence the "old school" feeling I guess...). I'm sure it's fun to play, as all Mazy maps are!
I love the little red house by the way, you need more of that.
In my dream office, everyone would have a "hawaii chair":

I picked up COD4 for PC on Thursday and haven't even started the singleplayer campaign yet because the mp part is so FUCKIN ADDICTIVE! Really, best MP shooter I have played in a long time...for those who haven't played it yet and just hear how "awesome" it is, but don't really know why - here are a few bulletpoints:
- Killcam: When you die you see the 4 seconds before you are killed through the eyes of the killer. Now I can see how the bastard got me. So simple yet so cool, I'm amazed why nobody has thought of this/implemented this before.
- Speaking of gamemodes: There are plenty. Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, a domination kind of game mode (you need to control certain locations on the map to gain points for the team, kind of like Battlefield-reverse), a mode which is pretty much exactly like the Counter-Strike bomb/defuse mode, a defend/attack mode and so on...really lots of content.
- Each player can order radar surveillance, airstrikes or a helicopter (!) that flies around the map and kills enemies until it gets shot down. You can unlock these abilities for killing a specific number of enemies each round.
- Ranks - Gain points to climb up the rank ladder to unlock more weapons, gadgets and "challenges" (pretty much like achievements).
- Classes - Customize your own class, with weapons and extra abilities (like extra health, extra stamina, more damage, less recoil, ...)
- Bullets penetrate surfaces, that's quite important actually and instead of frustrating I find it especially rewarding. It's a nice addition to a fairly exhausted genre (penetratable surfaces have felt more like bugs before, here it is done properly).
There is more cool stuff...I hadn't thought IW put so much effort into the mp part, maybe it's because the first COD game I play in mp. Really good fun.
It's in the nature of MMOs to have a much longer lifetime than regular games (on average). For how long has EvE been out? 4 years? 5 years? Longer? And it might have not reached the peek of its lifetime yet (see: trinity update, sale via steam). So when you talk about taking the first spot and one mmo overtaking the other in terms of popularity/users, it's like watching a turtle race. It takes longer than other game genres, but it happens. WoW just has a pretty big advance I give you that! ![]()
WoW is HUGE, you don't compete with WoW. You analyse why it's so popular, you take succesful elements, put in new stuff that "distinguishes" your product from WoW. In this case EVE would be a more direct competitor anyway, due to its obvious parallels in...well, space ship flying
And there is a number of things you could do better than EVE.
About MMO players not quitting so easily: I would like to see some stats proving that. There are always people getting bored of a game, looking for something different and almost each MMO goes through subscription cancellations due to patches/balancing changes. And the more people are lured to the MMO genre by WoW, the more will want to try different online games. And many might not have even heard of EVE - they better throw enough marketing bux at it!
