kinda ironic cause of the map name, but your sidewalks are kinda a shitty texture pick. then again theres like only 1 sidewalk texture in hl2

Exactly, I'd seriously consider changing it to something better.

Apart from that it looks fairly good, although the buildings look kinda weird :G

  • PhysX card to be released soon. What's your take?

I'll wait until they intergrate them into the graphics cards. Having to get another extra seperate card will never catch on I reckon, not unless they start getting some massive developer support.

Still not quite certain about Daniel Craig. Some part of me really like this change in character style yet somehow I have a very hard time being able to see this as a Bond movie when the character looks and acts this different.

Anyway, lets see, will definitely see this one when its out too.

    So tired...

I wonder when there's gonna come some law that states that its not the game developer's or publishers fault when people mod games these ways. Now that I think about it I find it amazing it hasnt happend more often before San Andreas.

    Anyway, so tired...

This is what got me started with level design.[Blocked Image: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/gfx/Mapedit.gif]

FUCK YEAH! I did that too (back in 1994 think, think I got if off a PC Review floppy ). I just remember it as being even more notepad'ish

First editor that really got me started seriously though was the one for Thief, was pretty sweet stuff

Yep. I decided some time ago my DM maps would be named via Serenity and CTF maps via Psychonauts. CTF2 shall be The Milkman.

Plus the main path of the level is in an S-shape that, when complemented with surrounding geometry and atriums, will look like a pair of goggles

    But what about Coachamara!?!?

I'd like to be CEO. If anyone knows a studio which looks for somebody to fill that position, let me know!

    Aye, that or Game Director

    Otherwise Leveldesigner is just fine

  • What does the industry expect of level designers?

    • Mazy
    • May 2, 2006 at 10:29 AM

As Blaz said its different in every company, some are very specific about the different roles and some have their leveldesigners do everything graphics to scripting.

I'd say its a pretty good to have some experience in graphics since leveldesign is also a lot about knowing how to make the game fun and look good (If you design shit locations not even the best graphics artists can make it look good ). I started with graphics and it really helps me in many situations, for example so I know if something is even achievable with the engine.

Safe to say thats its best to have lots of skills, but its still more important that you know your stuff as a leveldesigner first and foremost.

Looks VERY good but it looks like the video is not "real" footage. The graphics are real-time for sure but the player mouse movements are very weird. Looks like they're "programmed" or something, very smooth and "killzone'ish". I hope you know what I mean.

Yup, wouldn't want a first person game to look like that, but it works pretty good when you're showcasing the game like this.

Also that little shop was sweet, reminds me of episode 3 of BoB when they're storming around in Carentan

Tried it on my home computer (Which isnt exactly that hot anymore) and it ran perfect, no framerate problems at all. Sounds like it might be something with Nvidia cards (saw alot of you mentioning 6800 cards).
