Calling Portal, Hl2:Prey is pretty dumb to be honest.

    Indeed.

It's like calling gmod a jbmod ripoff, even though the roots of that gameplay began before jbmod.

Also, saying only game X can have a usage of Y feature, it reminds me of patent whores. It slows down innovation.

I don't get why people complain (or bring up... quit reminding valve they could get away with selling it as a seperate product) about it being bundled with EP2. Do they prefer paying $20 twice for seperate games instead of $20 once for two bundled games?

edit: i dont mean like what thrik said. his comment just reminded me of the people bitching about the episodic content while discussing tf2. Like this from shacknews: "And it's going to make some people (like me) wish that I could buy it without episode two..."

If TF2 were standalone, it'd probably be $20 anyways. So those that would buy TF2 regardless of EP2, are getting a free EP2 with their purchase. They're not paying any more. If they don't want the episodic content, they don't have to play/install it (I'm assuming they'll be seperate games on the steam games screen, given that cs:s was supposed to be hl2's multiplayer, and those are seperate).

Considering the dev cycle is now 7 years or so(ish?) it's pretty fair to say they have been likely superseded by numerous other games (battlefield series etc) in the area they were trying to occupy. I personally see this as something as a cop out.

7 years? It's not like they were making a game engine or a sequel to some best selling game within that time period... no, those kind of things should never take priority, that's just silly.

  • What would you pay for a book on leveldesign?

    • user

The thing about the free info on the internet - it's scattered and is usually of low quality and results will vary (plus after a few months, any pictures will probably end up being broken when for whatever reason the site hosting the tutorial has the user who sumbmitted the tutorial host the images off-site... i still don't understand that). If the book was detailed, complete, and well written (quality), it could be worth the buy -- if you haven't already learned most of what's in it.

The outdated info can also be placed on internet resources - just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it'll always be kept up to date.

there goes a large amount of possible community

That's the one bad thing I can see. The player community can be split 3 ways now, between TF2, FF, and TFC (for those who refuse to move on).

The shit has hit the fan at the FF forums though.

Haha wow, I just read the thread at FF forums and I can't believe how they're acting like children there.

Indeed. But it's just competition and fanboyness. I bet if you look at the ND forums, the users also act like children whenever a competition mod (Empires) has an update or ANY mod for source gets attention (like gmod going retail, I'm guessing that they're still bitching about Garry ripping off jbmod (which he didn't))

You're fucking supposed to burn the flag to retire it.

There's a difference between a flag burning ceremony, and a protest involving flag burning.

One thing I would have changed about my mapping, is creating backups (and by doing that I would setup the backup process to backup other important files). I just lost all of my map sources and other important files when my 80GB WD crashed.

    Kids, backup your maps.

Yet the American government can create a game killing it's opposers, and not be considered the same thing? Fucking hypocritical bastards...

Uhh, I think the point was moreso, terrorists using american games to train at killing american soldiers.

Watch out, Cliffe. You are now a suspected terrorist for creating a game that lets people play as a Terrorist and kill American/UK/German/French operatives, take hostiges, and blow up buildings.

Has the game that lets 12 year old billy act as a terrorist ever been on the news, for a negative reason?

Did they call BF2 an American game? Yes they did.

Way to not do their research.

(still watching it, I'm waiting for them to say that EA made the game (edit: THEY SAID IT LOLOLOL))

This $25 addon they mentioned, were they talking about SF or a third party mod?

I see two things by reading that mirc log:

For someone with no game development skill, why is he leading the team? IMHO a mod team leader should be skilled in at least one major aspect of the game development process

Given that he's not skilled in game development, if ND takes off, he's probably going to use the assets to brag about and use when talking down other games/mods, even though he didn't actually make any of it.

I'm waiting for him to find this thread and whine about it on the ND forums. Either that or call our mommies.

Speaking to DaveL is like having someone ejaculate in your face for ten minutes non-stop. I initially humoured him but... now I just ignore the guy. I also found his constant name-dropping and trashing of other mods to be distasteful. His attitude is somewhat bemusing considering he talks down to people while having little editing/modding/leading experience himself.ND may look the shit, but I don't think he's doing himself any favours whatsoever in the way he acts. Maybe one day he will realise this. I can't say what sort of a leader he is to ND's members; all I can comment on is the way he conducts himself when speaking to other people. My experiences mirror posty's -- I find him to be a condescending hot-air merchant.

Has he dissed FF yet? The irony would be great if he said FF was unoriginal.
