the biggest problem is it spent 4 of those minutes loading single shots of NOTHING. Didn't anyone go... you know maybe people bought this for a wrestling game and not a shot of a girl walking that took 33 seconds to load?

whoever is responsible for this should be locked away and only allowed to make shareware for the compUSA shelves.

    yeah okay.

my opinions are based on years and years of dealing with marketing people in the industry.

they don't care about the game or the quality and never will.

BiA EiB did have a pre rendered commerical. Hill 30 was real footage.

That's actually not the issue that's being discussed here.

The problem is they used a pre-rendered commercial and purposely put a bunch of quotes that talked about how amazing their graphics were to confuse the customer into thinking it was the real game. This has nothing to do with any of us... we're the hardcore crowd and responsible for maybe 5% of sales. The other 95% are the ones they're trying to protect-- chances are they don't understand it anywhere near as well as we do.

I think the solution for Activision here is not to actually pull the commercial but restructure their quotes so it doesn't imply that the footage is real.

This isn't as big of a deal as people seem to be making it.

I was making a high level observation. You don't tell a murderer to stop murdering, you tell a police officer and have him arrested. Also, your comparison is a bit extreme aye? I don't mind that they got busted in the UK by the authority on the subject. I was more making a point that go ahead and tell a marketer to stop lying to you all you want, the only thing he's listening to is your money at the cash register.

    truths:

marketers will never stop lying to you. they dont care about the product at all, they care that you buy it.

consumers will never stop bitching. it's in their nature.

    interesting counterpoints:

call of duty finest hour was one of the first games to outright do this and it sold a bazillion copies.

they did it again and sold a bazillion copies.

bitch all you want, they'll do it again.

    just weighing in:

I think it's cool this forum is here for people to discuss things they are very passionate about.

I think it's a lot less cool people are being extremely condescending and insulting towards each other. To some degree I understand that it comes with the territory but unabashadly flaming users burns my grits a bit.

I'm just throwing in my opinion of what I see without choosing a side. This forum gets a lot of use and I like that. I'm also not here to lock the topic or edit posts or anything (nor should any of the mods really for a difference of opinion.)

It's the internet. It's a forum. You guys agreeing to something will not bring about a solution, it will only bring about an agreement (and as already mentioned it's the INTERNET so there's no agreeing anyway.)

    Discuss onward.

    Quote from wacko

I disagree I think that it will just be dust in the wind after the first intial 2 or 3 months. I do not thing that it will latch on. The ony thing that could propell sales is the method of distro.

tossing in my hat to agree with wacko here (i know i know)

Red Orchestra has a small following on unreal and as a FREE mod managed to lose many people over time. There are what, 60 people playing right now? That's not exactly a lot of mindshare. Getting distributed on steam doesn't really mean people are all too aware of what's going on. In reality I think it will be released, you'll see a small bump of people buy it, and then it will disappear entirely.

I bet DoD (and DoD was free for LOTS of people who bought hl2 over steam) will outsell it.

The missing tiles is a nice touch but I think you could take it further...

-make more half tiles and rotated tiles.

-where tile is missing the poxy would still be there, so add some of that

-put some dirt on a few of the tiles, especially nearer to the floor.

well putting unneccesary laws to prohibit video games and their sales is a popular topic on both agendas, right and left, so let's not start the finger pointing again. it's just too easy to go after games and get famous or make money... this will not slow down. It's going to accelerate and get much worse.

yeah they've approached most of the dallas developers about this. i think everyone is sitting around for a bit to see if there is a legal precedent for such a thing.

we're in an especially odd pickle because instead of just using to represent health or whatever, it's actually part of history (i'm sure moh and cod have the same problem)

silly red cross. i always knew they were a corrupt organization but atleast try to HIDE THE FACT you're a "humanitarian" company doing your best to turn a profit off the top.
