Jesus fucking Christ, with the Wii U coming out that means I might actually get to play a proper HD Mario Kart.
I can't put into words the disappointment when I first tried the Wii version after the huge leap in graphics between the previous three generations' Mario Kart games. -

In all seriousness, been watching Law and Order: UK a lot. I think a lot of the earlier episodes are based (sometimes loosely) on the numerous US episodes, but the British setting completely changes the feel of the show and the hard streets of London are a pretty much perfect fit for the formula.
Also need to finish off season one of Homeland so I can get onto season two! Only a couple of episodes to go.

It might end up being not too far from the truth, though. Valve's been giving Linux a lot of attention, and it doesn't seem too unlikely their next game may coincide with a general push to disrupt Microsoft's dominance over the PC gaming space.
It's almost like Gabe has been planting the seeds with his comments about Windows 8 and the efforts to get Steam fully working on Linux. What better game to give a major shove and encourage giving Linux a try than HL3? Imagine if they included Linux-only DLC.

Valve seems very keen to kill Windows as the home of PC gaming, which in a way is good so long as it doesn't mean another platform just becomes the home instead... IMO all three major PC platforms (including Mac) should be on more or less equal footing. -

Love the screenshots, though. I'm a sucker for modern side-scrolling games, they can look so beautiful when all of today's hardware power is funnelled into such a perspective.
You should include a short summary of what the game's about and some shots in threads like this, I can't actually find a simple description of what the gameplay premise is on the site. People are much more likely to give something a go if the information is literally thrown into their faces rather than depending on them going digging for it.

Well I think it'll be an interesting project either way, although you may find people are more drawn to something that has a little fun with the Half-Life universe without necessarily being in any one part of it. Of course if you have the ambition to take it far beyond that it can only be a good thing.

Only two very specific homophobic and racist slurs that I'll leave to your imagination are censored (feel free to use the 'preview post' feature to find them). Using such shit has always been against the rules, but I was sick of seeing them come up anyway so I threw them into the profanity filter, I really don't see any situation in which it's reasonable to use them.

I'm really interested in in seeing this happen. Painkiller did have some issues that prevented me from seeing it through, but it delivered some amazing gameplay all the same. Mixed with Half-Life's universe and especially if done in such a way that makes it feel canonical, I can imagine it being a splendid experience.

Haha, yeah it does Sklalg. The first season is particularly formulaic because each episode is essentially a standalone story with a weak allusion to some wider conspiracy we're prickteased about, pretty much the same as the X-Files. In a way this is good as it introduces a premise for what comes later, but it's also terrible because it kills peoples' interest in the series stone dead.
What makes Fringe so good IMO is the fact that it actually delivers on the crazy world-changing shit that most series hint at but never actually let happen — and then the show continues in the aftermath. The writers admitted they played it safe with season one because they weren't sure they'd get the further seasons needed to properly introduce their arc and bring it to its fairly epic proportions, so I guess that's why the first one is relatively sucky.
I dunno, not saying you'll love it as much as me, but what I will say is that I've not come across many people who've stuck with it and not grown to think it's one of the best series ever, and there's a reason why it's survived for five seasons.

I don't think remakes should be disregarded purely on the basis of them being remakes. If a film is good, does it matter what it was based on — whether that by film, novel, or game?
By that same logic you'd have to disqualify you'd own favourite Silent Hill too.

I would. Season 1 kind of played it safe by only hinting at the absolute craziness the writers had planned (albeit still important for understanding what comes later), and by season 5 it's an almost unrecognisable show in comparison. It's impossible to elaborate without major spoilers, but... fuck yes, endure season 1's slowness and you'll be rewarded.

I hope the PS4 has better integration with UK services. It supports things like BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, etc but the interfaces feel lazy at best and just don't feel like they're properly part of the system. Also, Sky Player is a glaring omission that's been available on the 360 for years and grants you access to a gigantic library of on-demand TV (assuming you have a Sky subscription).
It's kind of excusable because this modern world of on-demand TV and its various services was in its infancy when the PS3 came along, but I expect it all to be integrated to perfection next time around.

Pretty unusual to see this kind of thing here, but it undeniably looks cool. Don't know nearly enough about how mapping works for such a game to pass any further comments, sadly!

Started watching the last season of Fringe, which like Lost was planned to be the final and conclusive season. This really is a great show if you can get through the lack of momentum in the first series, after which it breaks into an increasingly epic arc that escalates to apocalyptic proportions and manages to avoid becoming the dragged-out mess than Lost unfortunately devolved into. Highly recommend watching from the beginning to any sci-fi (horror) fan.
