  • Elysium - From the director of 'District 9'

I literally knew nothing about this film or the fact it even existed. After watching that trailer I can confirm that I am now anticipating the shit out of this. District 9 was an absolutely fantastic film IMO, which goes a long way towards making me so optimistic this will follow suit.

There was something very crisp and grounded in reality about the world depicted in District 9. It's hard to define what I mean, but this looks like it has some of the same feel. It's going to be a bit different having easily recognisable actors in it this time, but I have to say that Matt Damon looks like a pretty solid fuck in this.

That big ring thing totally evoked thoughts of Halo though. Wasn't District 9 originally an aborted Halo movie? Anyway, good shit.

For a moment I thought this was some kind of Django Unchained prequel.

Beautiful art, though. I'd love some stuff like that on my walls.

Doom 3 ran out of steam quite quickly for me. I tried to play it a few times, and each time I managed to get some way in but just became completely fatigued by what seemed like extremely repetitive gameplay. The jump scares and such are great the first few times, but it soon becomes apparent that the game is out of tricks.

I actually found Quake 4 to be a more interesting experience, in that there was at least more variety. That too got tiresome after a while though. I don't know, maybe these old-school games just aren't my thing any more.

I did look into this for a while but was unable to reliably replicate it myself. Even now, if I click the icon it takes me back to the last page I got to. Even bugs don't want to talk to me.

I was hoping it was just affecting old threads and would go away, but it sounds like it's persisting. Can anyone else experiencing this think of any patterns or observations that might provide clues as to the cause? Does it only happen sometimes or all the time? If only sometimes, that is the mystery that must be solved.

There is a forum update I'm due to apply soon, which will hopefully reduce the spam assholes a bit too. It's possible that contains a fix for this issue but we'll have to see. I'm hoping to find time for this within the next week as it'll take a few hours of downtime to properly update everything.

They still haven't re-released the Star Wars DVDs yet, seriously it's been months since you could buy them :/

Maybe the Disney Vault concept applies to those now too?

Shieeeeet. Unsurprising and kind of the final bullet the old horse needed, but the end of an era man. My childhood was so dominated and possibly my whole life and career was influenced by their games, sad as that sounds lol.

I'll move this to the gaming discussion forum as I suspect more people will spot it there (the 3D forum is more for projects). Hope you get some cool responses, and I agree it'd be interesting to see them in the thread too if the submitters feel like posting them!

Voice actors aside, has anyone been able to figure out WTF the story might be about in this one? The impression I get from the trailer is part of the game will be Big Boss and his awesome massive base he built after MGS3 getting totally fucked up by some enemy, leaving him in a coma. Then he wakes up and the game continues from there.

I was thinking that the coma would have been a really good time for them to do the whole 1970s 'Les Enfants Terribles' shit described in MGS1, using his DNA to create the clones while he's out of action (possibly thinking he might never wake up). That could even open up the possibility of a young Solid Snake appearing in the game, already quite old due to his rapid ageing. What if the dude in the trailer is actually Solid Snake and not Big Boss and he doesn't even know?? Maybe this was covered in some lore or PSP side-game I'm not aware of.

    Also this sounds great:

The Mother Base gameplay mechanic is back in Metal Gear Solid V, and it also has a new interactive element.[13] Big Boss has a home base in the open world that can be fortified and managed, and the player can manage bases from smartphones and tablets. Changes made will be updated in the core game, and the player will be able to walk around the base in realtime, to include applying upgrades. Also returning is weapon R&D (Research and Development) from Peace Walker, to include internal weapons development.

I never played Peace Walker but I did hear the base building stuff was cool, and adds to the gravity of seeing yo' shit get completely obliterated in MGS5. Glad to see they've used that as a prototype for what'll appear in MGS5, I love that kind of thing (not to mention friendly bases/safe zones in general).
