Remember when game companies advertised games by showing the games?

When they say District 9 they might just mean the overall palette and art direction. That was definitely a major inspiration of Hawken, the mechs themselves not so much.

Boy, this IKEA shit is hard-going. The desk was a bastard to build. Computer room is now up and running, although one half of the room will remain unphotographed for that's where all the boxes and junk are until I buy some kind of cupboard to put them in. ;(

    [Blocked Image: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37346336/desk.jpg]

I've temporarily enlisted one of my balcony chairs as a computer chair, but now I've been sitting in it I'm actually really liking the feel, great back support! Tempted to grab a third one for permanent use in here.

Now the next big task: building a whole new PC to replace this shit one which is still limping on from 2007. Jeez.

Not much further than before here, just got to some big door with symbols on it after meeting my homies for the first time. I'm still loving the atmosphere, but I got a bit annoyed with the wolves constantly respawning even if I only went like round the corner. I was trying to explore the area and was thinking "Fucking AGAIN?!?!" when I heard those shits for the 10th time.

Gah, was totally hoping this was a next-gen sequel announcement.

Looks like I'm going to have to placate myself with some epic Deus Ex + Human Revolution fan music:

HP's making me feel very inadequate with my 42-inch TV. Mine is a plasma though, so at least I'm still part of the elite plasma club.

BTW I wouldn't worry about the whole screen burn thing. I've had this VIERA since 2009 and I've used it for so much shit it's unreal, including just leaving games paused for hours at a time. There's no permanent burn of any kind, the worst you might get is where if you have some bright white HUD element on your screen for ages and then the screen goes all black, there's a barely noticeable hint of where the white was. It fades within minutes though.

Just be smart about using features designed to prevent this kind of thing. Most consoles, TV boxes, etc can dim the image if there's no activity for a while. I set my PS3 to dim after 10 minutes if nothing's been touched. Even then, I have the PS3 music player open all day sometimes and there's no burn where the UI elements are, and I use maximum brightness.

That trailer was awesome but I wish companies would realise that putting in-game footage right after incredible CGI/live footage always makes it look kinda crappy.

Chimeray: i'm about of the same opinion. One thing I was thinking since the beginning: if MS has gone into all the trouble to make such an infrastructure, I guess it's the publishers that asked for it(?).

Steam prices are full-retail price for new PC games, they don't sell it cheaper because it's digital.

They have that 10% off on preorders (depending on the publisher), then I could most of the time buy a PC game on Amazon at lesser price than on Steam.

Except if there's some promotion going on. Which it's very often, to be fair, but nonetheless.

I think he meant PC games in general. I don't know about other countries but in the UK virtually any new PC game is released for ~£35, whereas console games are at ~£50.

Yep. It was only a month or so ago that I moved, and lo and behold for about a week I had no internet because that's often how it is when you're moving home and internet companies take weeks to arrange an installation. During that period I probably gamed more than I had done in months, precisely because I had fuck all to do other than watch TV.

In that exact situation, I'd have been fucked if I had an Xbox One.

Welp, still no gameplay. At least this trailer is much less Dishonored-esque.

What's the deal with the thief guy anyway, is he really just an asshole thief? It might seem petty but I like to be able to empathise with characters I play as and somewhat believe in what they're doing. All the media thus far makes out this is some violent dude who robs people, like I'm meant to find that really awesome or something.

Am I the only one that is thoroughly expecting a SimCity-esque fuck up of epic proportions to happen with this 24-hour connection thing? What happens if Microsoft experience downtime (it can and has happened)? Or if someone's internet connection stops working for a little while when the check is done? Or what if someone's moving home or internet provider and they have no internet for a week or so? These are all things I've experienced when using my 360, UK internet connectivity ain't all that.

This just seems so anti-consumer that it pisses me off regardless of what justifications Microsoft use. The only reason that services like Steam are accepted is because they deliver overwhelming value in addition to any negatives they might bring. What Microsoft's doing is purely shit and offers no benefits to consumers whatsoever.

I love Kiefer but for me changing an iconic voice like Snake's is the equivalent of changing, like, Homer Simpson's voice or some shit. I'll definitely get used to it because there's more to MGS than Snake's voice, but it's hard to not feel disappointed.

With that said, I'm still half-expecting it to turn out that both Naked Snake (Kiefer) and Solid Snake (Hayter) will be in the game, with Hayter being mostly a supporting character like in MGS2. Who friggin' knows.

Surprising that they're using Source, I kind of figured Source-based development outside Valve was dead until the eventual new version of the engine. I guess it's consistent with the Infinity Ward dudes' habit of sticking with an old engine they know really well. Just have to wonder how good it'll look compared to Valve's efforts with the engine.

See that hole in the corner of the room covered by a blue plastic computer case panel? Thats where my wild squirrel pets used to live until I got an exterminator to plug the hole with some expanding foam.

Looks very cosy and nice. I like those lights, I should get some for my love room.

Only got to the point where I've killed my first meal but it seems great so far, very polished and the death sequences are fuckin' brutal — the first QTE where she gets crushed by rocks is like 'omg'. It does actually make me want to die less though because it's kinda harsh, more games should make death sequences more meaningful rather than using the same generic falling over and enemies rape your corpse ad infinitum.

I was expecting more Uncharted-esque shooting action though. Is that coming up or is this game not focused on that?
