Seriously lol, this should totally be in regular off topic. Want me to move it or do you want to keep it under the radar?

Glad to hear you're doing OK, any kind of health anything including the word 'heart' is not what a young guy needs to be hearing. D: Hopefully it's the last time you'll ever need to worry about it.

Kind of amazed they're getting this out on the PS3, after GT5 took so long to come out I'd have expected them to save it purely for the PS4.

Yeah, gotta admit this has inspired me (or frightened me) to start doing a session every couple of days. I used to do a lot of regular exercise and I know exactly what you mean HP: you just generally feel better all day, every day. More energy, the world seems more wonderful... lol.

I'm pretty sure nothing's been said either way, although typically when Rockstar stay quiet about such things it means they have no immediate plans (ie: it could happen much later or never).

I'd personally love to see it hit the next-gen consoles. Even if there's nothing in the way of extra content or detail, simply having a higher resolution and sharper textures would be enough for me. It'd be a great title to help get people on board with the next-gen consoles too.

There are probably some complicated sales implications going on here that I'm too much of a layman to get into too much. To me, it seems clear that if they were to release on next-gen consoles at the same time it could cause people to think the current-gen version is inferior and thus not buy it — but they doesn't mean they have money to go out and buy a next-gen console, so they might end up buying nothing (until they can eventually afford it).

So to guarantee sales during the release window they could keep quiet about a next-gen release, then do it a bit later. Or they could just go ahead and not to a next-gen release at all, so when they do eventually release a next-gen GTA6 it's truly mind-blowing.

I'm just gonna resign myself to the fact that I'll be playing this on the 360 or PS3, and that it'll be sweet.

OK the amount of gameplay they're cramming into this is insane. GTA4 was a big step up in terms of gun mechanics and such so it's great to see they're pushing things as far as possible this time. I mean, this shit looks like a great golf game, racing game, diving game, hunting game, stock simulator, fighting game, and general exploration game all in one.

Graphically it looks more realistic to me now, in the sense that it looks capable of running on current-gen consoles. I think what's in that video is pretty much exactly what we're going to get, it looks like they even used raw footage at the game's proper resolution because it lacks the impossible sharpness and anti-aliasing the earlier trailers had (which is good because it's nice to know it'll look good on things other than ultra-spec PCs).

What expectations? I personally was expecting this game to be a bit of a niche hit, admired by those who know Naughty Dog but not something that hits the mainstream so quickly. These sales figures are great, shows that it's worth putting money into awesome fresh IP rather than yet another fucking sequel even this late into the console's life.

Wow. I'm gonna be honest, the stuff they were working on sounds pretty awesome. It also sounds like they were pretty much geniuses. But it makes sense that Valve decided to pursue true virtual reality rather than augmented, it's just a shame that some extremely talented people kind of got taken for a ride. But every cloud has a silver lining: the technology they were able to put together with Valve's cash is probably enough to get funding from elsewhere.

I think the more interesting thing about the whole situation is how Valve's corporate structure can lead to quite a lot of stress for people. I've often thought of how Valve works as innovative and interesting, but having read that article and compared it to my own experiences with real-world developers I can easily imagine how people would abuse Valve's freedoms and cause certain people to be left out, certain projects to be under-resourced, etc. Sometimes the ability to say to someone 'yeah we really fucking need you to do this' is a good thing if you want to get your project out this side of the millennium, lol.

One of Giant Bomb's main forces who was tremendously popular and arguably influential has unexpectedly died at just 34:

    http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/ryan-…2013/1100-4685/

I don't know how many dudes here follow the site and/or have tuned into his podcasts on there and GameSpot, but even if not it's still pretty fuckin' sad that he's not only died so young but also while on his honeymoon after getting married a week or so ago. Crazy stuff.

If nothing else it's another reminder (after losing MapCore's own MrH2o and engineer) that we need to fuckin' live life while we have it. Shieeeeet.

I agree with those sentiments, but considering that they were apparently the whole hardware division at Valve (She was the head!), what now? Is Valve just doing nothing hardware-wise now while continuing to vaguely hint at some big thing they'll eventually do (but in reality have probably barely started)?

The whole situation just makes any kind of Steam Box look depressingly distant rather than the imminent thing it was starting to look like.

Interesting article from the head of Valve's hardware division that was laid off, plus most of her team. Sounds like Valve's wonderful-sounding flat hierarchy can lead to problems such as people playing the system and being really lazy, hidden power pockets, etc. It kind of makes sense if you're one of the MapCorians who's ever worked in an actual development team, I always suspected Valve's set-up seemed too good to be true.

Valve's 'perfect hiring' hierarchy has 'hidden management' clique like high school

More pertinent to this thread though, it begs the question of WTF is actually going on at Valve regarding the Steam Box. With the thick wall of secrecy all we can do is excitedly speculate, but stories like that don't sound like Valve really knows what it's doing in the hardware field, nor is it giving those who do the freedom required.

Maybe Transformers put a lot of people off big robot films, which is kind of understandable after that series' rapidly declining quality. But there's nothing I can see to suggest this will be anything short of sweet, so to dismiss it as just a Transformers rip-off like some seem to be doing seems pretty retarded to me.

I've only played FF8 but my memories of it are very fond. I loved the characters and story, which helped me get over the fact that I didn't actually like the kind of grindy gameplay that much.

In my mind's eye the game took place in an impossibly large and varied world, I remember being bowled over by how expansive the game seemed and each location was a joy to discover. It probably wasn't as huge as I remember it compared to today's games.

In a way it looks like this is a classic 'giant monster in a city' type film, Godzilla-esque. Most of the marketing doesn't seem to be showing that side of it so much, I guess robots are more marketable. But I love that kind of stuff so some robots vs giant dinosaur shit sounds good to me.

Also it's good to see Stringer Bell appearing in more stuff, really great actor.
