Someone I work with just sold literally every game he owns except one so he can get GTA5, lol.

Looks great, a superb example of how lighting is so important to making a map look its best. I agree that the yellow stairs clash a bit with everything else, seir's alternative seems good.

I don't think many people dislike Source, just wish Valve would try harder to create better tools. The way of editing is very different to others yet clearly still appeals to a lot of people (maybe it's the simplicity I don't know), but it could be refined without losing that.

One thing that can't be argued with is that it can make excellent games that look great.

  • Peter Molyneux's latest epic game

Yeah I just haven't bothered with Molyneux talks since like Black & White. I just wait for the games and judge them on their own merits, and usually quite enjoy them. I know he gets excited about his games but he kind of ruins the surprise of discovering these cool features yourself, and not only that he over-hypes them so things you would have otherwise thought were sweet end up being disappointing.

He really needs to take on board the Thrik philosophy: under-promise and over-deliver.

It's fun to see that the Internet is all abuzz about console-war... then critique is applauding this very current looking game.

Yeah, it just goes to show that gameplay is king. I think these guys got it spot on: people have been missing the huge variety of movement that was possible in games of the 90s and early 2000s. Nowadays too many games are obsessed with following the Counter-Strike route of movement, which is all well and good but fuck do I miss the jetpacks, teleporters, super speed, etc that characterised Tribes, Team Fortress, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc.

Interesting fact I missed until now: the game has a proper soundtrack in addition to the usual radio stuff. Over 20 movies worth of score that plays dynamically as you do shit, apparently.

That's a pretty big first, as the GTA series has always been characterised by silence when outside of cars. And will the soundtrack override radio music during big chases and shit (unless you switch radio stations maybe)?

Looking forward to hearing how they handle it. As any player of Skyrim should agree, the subtle music can make exploring vast environments much more immersive so long as the sounds of nature, etc aren't drowned out.

lmao! That could actually be amazing if it tells the target they've been highlighted, so they can shit themselves and think of how to survive the next 45 seconds. It provide the kind of high-tension burst you normally only get in single-player games.

Even better would be if the player were highlighted for both teams, allowing the target's team to be white knights and protect him.

Isn't a modified version of GTKRadient used to make the Call of Duty games? If something as good-looking as CoD: Black Ops and Ghosts can be made using it then it can't be that bad. It's probably quite similar to Hammer (which more people on MapCore use) due to their shared heritage.

Well Nintendo definitely makes it confusing, but the 3DS is considered a new generation of handheld. It's a bit like comparing the PSP to the Vita. The 3DS isn't just a DS that can do 3D, it's a new console with different games that don't run on a DS whether they're 3D or not (you can disable 3D on the 3DS too btw).

    Basically it goes:

    1. Game Boy
    2. Game Boy Color
    3. Game Boy Advance
    4. DS
    5. 3DS

Each one usually supports the games of the one before, for example the DS plays GBA games and the 3DS plays DS games. All the other models (DSi, XL, GBA SP, etc) are just revisions, not new consoles. The 2DS is a revision of the 3DS but not a DS.

It's easy to see why people thought the Wii U was just another Wii revision, right?

No, confusingly the 3DS is actually a whole new generation. Its games don't run on any other kind of DS. :s
