OK I got further than before (fucks sake dying after one shot is hard) but it does look like a good little puzzle game in its own right. I guess it'd benefit from further work as it doesn't seem to get much different. The concept is still amazing though, this shit needs to be in Max Payne 4.

This is such a sweet concept. I hope it can be turned into some kind of actual compelling game as it seems like more of a tech demo.

Yeah don't know why you'd want to watch shitty videos instead of enjoying the amazing experience for yourself within days.

Someone I know is playing it right now. Dunno how he got it so early but it's a legit copy. Might be something to do with him working at a shop that sells games...

I guess one thing to remember is that few publishers are probably willing to splash out the big bucks on some random pirate epic, so it being an Assassin's Creed is actually the only way something this in-depth and awesome would be made. Kind of like how few publishers would have been smashing down doors to have some game set in Renaissance Italy some years ago...

So if I have to put up with a bit of usual Ass Creed bullshit to enjoy such a game I'm OK with that. I just hope they tone down the non-period stuff because I find it really uninspired and boring personally. I'd have probably been happy if Assassin's Creed 2 (my favourite in the series thus far) had just been a straight-up historical epic.

Do note, OP has not posted here since TS; yet started a new topic. I assume it's no longer of interest to the OP.

Seems to be a recurring theme with cybarian. I'm starting to think that he's just asking these questions on behalf of someone else or has to pass some test or something, because the questions are so varied and seem to lead nowhere.

Hmm, doesn't seem like it could take off to me — it's just too much. I appreciate that it's probably more advanced and accurate than Kinect and Move, but I'm pretty sure that they could extrapolate more or less the same thing by just observing the body movements of someone wearing, say, a virtual reality headset. I think they could do it well enough for most people to be happy with it, anyway.

This just looks like the ultimate pirate game I've always wanted. I don't even give a shit that it's Assassin's Creed any more, in fact the less of the series' usual sci-fi and stuff the better. Just give me a full-on pirate tale, man.

WordPress.com shows ads in some circumstances, see here: http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

As it's WordPress, if you gallery module doesn't let you display them as full-width images you should at least be able to make a post and instead of inserting a gallery, open up the image manager and manually insert each image one after the other (like you would when posting on MapCore). Should work just fine, and people can click to go to the big versions. I agree that clicking lots of thumbnails is hell, especially on a tablet or something (Which could be used to pull up your portfolio during the interview!).

Neat and saves the burden on artits side.

I suspect that the next burden to be alleviated is the "physics" side of motion in games. I'm talking about things like splashing water, blood, paint, debris, hand painting cracks on textures, deformation of objects on the fly, the dynamic side that makes a game world feels more alive, rather than photoreal and static.

I'd love to see Valve whip out something like this for Half-Life 3, the same way they made me jizz myself with the Half-Life 2 physics and materials. Maybe the weird materials in Portal 2 were them experimenting with it. (Probably not.)

If anything, the main thing GTA has been needing for a long time is more stuff to do within the cities. There's something that feels so weird about these massive, sprawling cities that have like 15 buildings you can enter. I know the missions have special areas but it'd be nice if more of the city felt like it's more than a shell and the missions simply took place in it.

To be fair, GTA4 did improve things a lot here, but there's still much further it could go. At this point I want more depth rather than more scale, so I'm kind of happy to see that while the map is clearly huge they haven't tried to get overly ambitious and do three cities like in San Andreas (which if I remember correctly each had like two buildings in).

BTW, my fondest memories of San Andreas were all the countryside shit and some of the crazy missions that went on out there. The crazy hippie living in the forest... amazing. Hoping for lots of that in here rather than endless city shit.

I like the idea of some hairy taxi driver turning up in the ass of nowhere because I accidentally crashed my car into a family of cyclists brutally killing them all. 'Where to m8?', 'Somewhere we can bury some bodies lad'.

    • Thrik
    • September 10, 2013 at 9:55 AM

I've not used Unity but any scripting language is theoretically usable in any game, so if you already know one it's can save time using that rather than learning a new one (not that switching languages is too hard). Python is a very popular and good language, as is Lua.

IMO though, if you're not an expert with any scripting language you should use the most widely used one for the engine so there's plenty of documentation. Using an uncommon scripting language (even if it's technically a better choice) might seem cool until you realise there's nobody out there who can help you because they don't use it.

Agreed, your questions really are very basic and could easily be answered via a quick search — literally, just Google 'unity python'. And please post these things in the 3D forum as I have to keep moving your threads there...
