This thread is now about my favourite Jack Nicholson scene ever:

    Very cool shit:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit…playstation-now

I was always wondering how it could be possible to run a service like Gaikai (or whatever it's being called now) without running into crazy cost issues due to you effectively needing one PS3 per active player.

Looks like the solution was quite obvious really: build fuckloads of server racks that each hold eight PS3s. They could literally fit about 100 PS3s into the space of an average wardrobe — pretty crazy shit! And I bet they can make them really cheaply too because there's no need for them to look nice, be quiet, etc.

Interesting article if you're into this kind of stuff!

i'm curious about which system and digital vs. boxed editions people are interested in most. I definitely want for PS4.

I think it'll come down to which has the technical edge for me. It's likely to be the PS4 for numerous reasons, but we'll see.

Yeah man, MGS has a story that you either love or hate. It's unashamedly ridiculous, but then it's heavily inspired by anime and Japanese weirdness so it's no surprise really. The characters have a lot of depth, which is what really does it for people I think. I didn't cry at the MGS4 ending, but it was pretty amazing seeing a story I'd been into since I was like 12 being wrapped up. I was as sad to see the old villains die as much as anyone else!

I am hoping that Ground Zeroes will be longer than the tanker incident, considering the price. I'll be genuinely surprised if it isn't.

There was actually a Sim Town in the 90s and I think its plots were still bigger than SimCity V's.

Well, Shadow Moses was just one little camp. If it is one location, hopefully there's be lots of indoor/underground stuff you must take your time with, which I expect from an MGS game.

Well, the beta is out for backers today! And the final release in a couple of weeks, of the first half at least.

There's only so exciting an adventure game trailer can be, but my god the visuals. If only more games could look so rich. Also I'm assured by a friend playing it right now that the dialogue and humour is excellent to Monkey Island and Grim Fandango proportions, which weirdly isn't hinted at in the trailers.

lmao. But still no bigger cities? Fuck me...

At least the ability to mod should make that possible. If that comes along and the shitty simulation issues have been fixed I'll probably give it a go at some point. Or just wait for the inevitable Kinect/Move-enabled next-gen version.

Yeah, just to reiterate: I think that sending replies is a must. I've been out of full-time work for over half a year before, and while I was fine because of my savings it was incredibly soul-destroying putting effort into cover letters and such only to be met with silence. It also makes me reluctant to apply there again, even though I'd probably quite like to. Fortunately I had some great opportunities come along before long, but as I considered my skills quite sharp I found it really frustrating that I couldn't even get a response from some.

While I joked about Sentura's post, the point is legitimate: sending a response can literally be a two-second job, and if you've got time to scan through the emails you've got time to do that. If you truly haven't, then you need to find a new way of managing the process. Perhaps have an actual slot booked into your calendar every week to process them, or get HR involved so only ones that hit a certain standard/style make it to you (if they can handle that).

If you're dealing with them in a 'constantly hitting my inbox and I just look at them whenever' kind of way then that's probably an issue right there. Do you have a separate inbox for these recruitment emails? I would, and only check it weekly at a scheduled time. Maybe even go into a meeting room so nobody bothers you. I know there's often pressure that makes putting time aside for such things difficult, but it's usually worse if you try to just 'fit it in' and can never do it properly.

Sounds like some really interesting shit. I bet these kinds of tools could work on many levels, from trying to take in a whole room (perhaps not so flexible) to creating really detailed reusable panels for walls and shit.

I think what'd probably be best would be to give a very short response saying that unfortunately they haven't been chosen. That way, they have the closure of knowing they can forget about that prospect and they shouldn't re-apply until a much later time. I can't help but feel a little animosity when I encounter companies that I know ignored me at some point during the past.

If I were in your shoes I'd also say something along the lines of "If you'd like to know more about what led to this decision we can provide that feedback upon request". That way, you avoid having to even think about what you're going to say to each person and it can literally just be a copy/paste response. And if they do ask for more info, you can go ahead and give them a little of your time to explain it properly.

I don't like this kind of video. 25k$ to get 1k$ worth of goods into Philippines + ego wankjob for the creator and PR for fox. Smells fishy. Imagine Fox would just donate a million. It would be just a number that gets unnoticed but would actualy have a much more profound impact. Instead they donate 25k and get huge PR boost out of it and lots of people think they are the nicest company for letting this narcissist do his thing.

    /rant

Back to supporting stuff with FB likes.

Yeah I can agree with this. There's probably an organisation in the Philippines that they could have just wired the money to and they'd have made excellent use of it. Instead, I'm guessing that at least 50% of the budget went on travel, filming, hotels, etc for the sake of filming six minutes of self-indulgent 'feel good' footage.

Don't get me wrong I definitely believe that something is better than nothing, but truly helping struggling parts of the world requires more than just throwing money at the problem. Of course, Fox wouldn't have given the money if they knew they weren't going to get any real PR out of it so there you go.

I think it was a lovely gesture and great of Fox to support, but I couldn't help but watch it and thank... OK, so they've got food for like a day or two. Then it's back to living in half-underwater wreckage and being under constant threat of rape and/or murder.

It's not so much a criticism of him as it is me just realising how god damn futile things can be even when you throw half a person's salary at it, never mind the $5 or whatever it is charities often ask us to give. This world, man...

It's funny though, Call of Duty has never really been close to the best graphically IMO yet their success has been insane. Maybe a great frame rate and solid gameplay is really the key to multiplayer success.
