The international element makes it even worse with the games industry. At least in most other sectors, you've potentially got hundreds more jobs in the same region. It seems that a lot of people can and do end up moving their whole lives to countries to work there, only to be let go... it's so bad. Maybe not so much when you're young, but totally impossible when you're a bit older and have a family.

Looks like those photos came from Russia's RT.com, dubbed the 'Putin Propaganda Network', lmao.

I did quite enjoy reading D3's posts about this, it's good to hear a more informed opinion rather than hysteria. Also very interesting how quickly this has evolved way past mere clashes between police and protesters, and now we're looking at the risk of full-scale war. Amazing how history can be made.

That said, I'm pretty sure those photos of the civilians and soldiers living in harmony are propaganda, lol.

It's kind of fascinating how Valve is successfully turning everyone into kids again who love collecting things that have no real value, and are willing to go to great lengths to get rare items. Reminds me of pogs and shit.

Nice, thick letters and simple forms (no fancy-ass fonts) is the key.

I'm going to give it a go, it looks like something I'll enjoy. Really wondering what some of you on here think about how it compares to Dishonored, as I absolutely loved that game.

Just realised that Interceptor is the same studio that had that trouble ages ago when they were making that sweet-looking remake of Duke Nukem 3D but said Gearbox had made them shut it down — only for Gearbox to later say they could go ahead with it after all, as a non-commercial fan project as originally agreed.

It looks to me like 3D Realms caught onto that somehow, and decided to work directly with Interceptor to create some other Duke-related game using the limited license Interceptor had. So that does make things more blurry, but in all honesty this just reeks of assholery on 3D Realms' part. Also, Gearbox has been revealing in its lawsuit how much of a mess the 'game' they inherited from 3D Realms was.

Helping 3D Realms was probably one of the worst decisions Gearbox ever made. Almost as bad as deciding to make a game using one of the world's most famous sci-fi film IPs and then outsourcing it.

D3 I know you're into your Eastern Bloc and everything, but can you stop being an apologist for a moment and just join the rest of the world in agreeing that this is some fucked up shit? There's absolutely no situation where it's appropriate for snipers of the authorities to be gunning down civilians — and especially not in circumstances as described.

"It's a terrible loss of life... but I can't but think of that phrase 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes'" is the kind of thing I'd expect a dictator to say after torching a town to the ground because its people took issue with his policies. I mean, really? Did that girl who recently got shot in the head deserve it because she threw eggs at some dude's car?

I think most of us are past the point of even caring about the politics and backstory, and just want to vent disapproval of such indiscriminate and unnecessary killing. Who's more in the wrong and what barely armed civilians did to deserve having their heads blown open by a sharpshooter is kind of besides the point.

Lol, oh boy. In all fairness though, if 3D Realms is trying to use the IP they sold then that is most definitely unacceptable regardless of how much of a mess DNF ended up being (probably not that much because of Gearbox).

Front of the page for sure, this seems like the kind of site where the home page needs to be somewhere where they can find exactly what they want within a couple of clicks or so of landing there.

I meant the one at night, half the buildings are missing. Are they destructible or just left out? But it's good to know that entire village hadn't disappeared too.

I think you need to think seriously about how to make this useful to people. I just tried the following terms:

    • adventure game
    • rts
    • shooter

Not a single one turned up any results, and those are actually types of indie games I was genuinely interested in so the site pretty much failed for my needs there. Yet if I go ahead and type 'indie game shooter', 'indie game rts', or 'indie game adventure game' into Google I get loads of examples of such games.

Certainly, presenting it as a search engine is the wrong way to go. You're effectively building a directory, so it should be presented as a directory complete with big imagery (people want to see these games), popularity/ratings, etc. You can still include a search feature, but it should be a secondary focus — otherwise you're focusing directly with Google, which is a battle you'll never win.

As for the submission issue, you need to do some work there. You can't rely on people to want to submit projects until it already looks worth submitting to. At the moment nobody even knows what games are there unless they happen to type the correct tags, which is in itself like an unfortunate game. There's no way to just browse, which is what people want from this kind of site.

So you need to present the games better, and also put some serious effort into pre-populating it with games — whether you do it manually or develop algorithms that can identify things on Kickstarter (or at least nominate them so you can manually add them) is up to you.

BTW, I'm going to move this to the regular off-topic forum. This is a sincere discussion so should be in a place more likely to get serious responses.

It is curious that it's Facebook-only. Is it because Facebook provides some kind of easy profile creation, tracking, etc? Seems like it could limit the audience as Facebook games seem less in favour nowadays compared to even two years ago.

I don't even understand what's happening there. It's not like it's just missing effects and post-processing, in the town shot there are literally entire buildings and such missing. Why would you even implement that stuff just to take it out?
