    Oh, fair enough. You're probably closer to London than me, but it's only a two-hour train to London from here. I do remember trains being atrocious when I tried to get to Chester, which is about as close to Wales as I've ever gotten.

    When we were talking about it in the chat it became apparent that both me and Vilham are going to the London Eurogamer Expo at the end of September this year, so that would seem like a suitable occasion seeing as some (including me) are financially fucked during the next few months. I'll likely be staying in a hotel at the time so it wouldn't necessarily need to be at the expo for those (weirdly) not interested.

  • IRC is dead where is new chat :/

    I just implemented a live chat module on the forums, feel free to go ahead and talk bullshit.


    To give some background, MapCore's 'home' was for some time an IRC channel. That same channel continues to exist and has about 20 people in it at any given time, but the majority of them are from pre-forums MapCore (i.e. don't post here) and just sit idle with IRC open in the background. There's been very little interest expressed by new members in joining IRC for years, which reflects IRC's general decline as a popular medium.


    I appreciate Kedhrin's comments above about web-based chats rarely being as complete as a dedicated piece of software, however I believe that integration with the forums is a good way of encouraging people to dip in — they can be chatting with one click, whereas with other systems they have to deal with adding contacts, invites, and even downloading software if they don't already have it. Additionally, not everyone is able use things like Skype or Steam at work.


    So, at least for now there'll be a permanent chat channel open which you can access via the top menu. A small icon will indicate when people are in there, and if you click it you'll immediately be signed into the channel with your forum login. It's a basic chat set-up for sure, but it allows for private messaging and you can break it out into a separate window rather than having to leave the browser tab open all the time. Just don't abuse it or a ban will be the reward.


    There isn't a great deal I can do to customise it, but if it does prove popular we can always look into integration with third-party stuff as a later step. This is a basic provision to see how it goes, which I hope can eventually replace the status updates for 'random crap' conversation because there are more useful things we hope to implement there.


    Of course, you're all welcome to use things like Skype and Steam to chat. I'm just providing this as an option.

    Awesome, if there's one thing the world needs more of it's sweet-ass renditions of Metal Gear Solid locations. I bet people would love to see iconic parts of Shadow Moses and Big Shell rendered to a much higher standard — I know I would.

    T-shirts can be a tricky thing. Mine fits perfectly, but that's because I'm very much the opposite of petite. There are a number of different brands I can make the products available in though, however I don't know which ones are best for slim types who prefer a fitted feel. The brands are:

    • American Apparel
    • B&C (what we're using now)
    • Canvas
    • Continental
    • Hanes

    If any of you have bought those brands before and can express any preference or experience with sizing, that could be useful — it's no biggie to add them as options. If not, I can try and do some research myself as these are very common brands (there's even an American Apparel shop down the road from me). Note that the prices do vary by up to £5 for these.


    I have actually had an American Apparel T-shirt before and found that the fit was quite tight and the T-shirt was long compared to others I've had. But this was way back when I was thin, lol.


    BTW, regarding the printing: I went with direct-to-fabric printing because while it does have a less bombastic finish (it's described as slightly more vintage), it shouldn't crack and degrade in the way that printing where it's 'stuck on' can — that can be a big problem with lettering in particular.

    To address a question I've had a few times: other currencies as a buying option isn't possible right now due to SpreadShirt's 'one currency per store' set-up. I've been giving the store a couple of weeks or so to make sure everything goes OK (so another vendor can be used if there are problems), and intend to create a version of the store in Euros and possibly USD too. This might also speed up delivery as I believe they're produced in different places depending on the currency. More products will be added at the same time.


    Thank you very much for the support so far, 15 sales apparently which is great! It makes me warm and fuzzy to know there are a whole bunch of you out there with MapCore gear.
