This looks absolutely god damn splendid. The setting is gorgeous, if it can be backed up with a compelling story and substance to missions this should be awesome.

Just watched episode six, things are really picking up now. Great action, lots of tension, one of those classic 24 'oh god please don't kill that person' moments, and some new story threads introduced that are going to make the shit hit the fan very soon.

Sounds like Mario Kart 8 is as amazing as everyone expected, god damn I can't wait to get me some. Also I'm sure we've all noticed the Luigi death stare meme that has been running riot, and for good reason:

That video is really funny without annotations IMO, it's just a load of random footage and I couldn't help but lol at some of the stuff. I think it's unfair to be too critical because of such nitpicks, but I can just imagine someone playing it for the first time and being all 'uhhhhh' at things like the train magically stopping dead.

Thanks guys!! Another year through the voyage of life.

I have indeed been a bit AWOL recently, I started a new job a couple of weeks ago and moved almost immediately beforehand, so I've been enjoying some 'me time' and doing shit I haven't had the money/time for in years. Still, the Internets continues to draw me back in and I'll soon be back to posting hurginas all day every day before long.

  • What are you playing now?

    Nexus, STFU and FO.

I haven't played this yet, but the trailer looks delightful:

Makes me wonder why more games haven't explored survival in nature, there's endless potential for heartbreaking and exciting stories. It'd be so amazing to be able to play out the things you see in the BBC's Planet Earth, Life, and Africa; if it were handled gracefully it could induce more genuine emotion than any game has ever managed (like the baby elephant scene from Africa oh my god).

Christ, it's really embarrassing watching the whole Xbox One thing. It's just been a constant series of U-turns and contradiction, and while some are using that as a defence of Microsoft and claiming that they're listening to their fans, it's clear to me that the real reason for it is because there's a complete lack of focused direction and vision on Microsoft's part. They just don't seem to know what they're doing, and it's now gotten to the point where the XBone is basically just the PlayStation 3 with better graphics (I say PS3 because unlike the Xbox 360 that console had very good multimedia capabilities).

I know I'll end up with both, I just wish Microsoft would figure out what the fuck it is they want the XBone to be before they sink the platform. The proof is in the pudding: the PS4 is absolutely annihilating the XBone in terms of sales, and almost every game is coming out in an inferior state on the XBone. It currently has an advantage in that bizarrely its multimedia capabilities are superior to the PS4's (which are a step back from the PS3), but Sony has already committed to bridging the gap and considering that they have their own previous console to draw from I've little doubt it'll soon cease to be an issue.

It's just not looking good, especially considering the whispers within Microsoft about the Xbox division's future. But if Microsoft goes down, who could possibly replace them? At the moment it's becoming a one-console race, with Nintendo not really competing as a new-generation console and no other vendors really positioned to take the gaming market. The Ouya has been a disastrous failure; Apple continues to be antipathetic towards gaming. The only 'console' that could really become a serious contender is the Steam Machine line.

Of course, Microsoft could turn everything round. They have many solid IPs, and as the console is now out they're in a position to make it increasingly affordable. In terms of horsepower it's not that much behind the PS4, so I don't think that will be any kind of factor with the mainstream. I really hope they fix it, because competition is good. Part of me is even tempted to help them out by getting an XBone sooner rather than later.

Very weird things happening in the industry right now.

I don't think there's anything else worth having in the UK, it's only really Netflix and Now TV (Sky) that get the good programmes. Of course there's iPlayer and such, but they're free.

Now TV is surprisingly good value considering how expensive Sky normally is. I added the movies too for an extra £8, which allows streaming access to everything on Sky Movies. I guess they're feeling the heat from Netflix and realised that they need to offer an affordable alternative to the rapidly failing set-top box and contract model.

Holy SHIT, after years of drinking copious amounts of caffeine I decided to give it up last night because I was noticing my heart racing during the day and especially during the evenings, and it was worrying the shit out of me. So I've had nothing today, and seriously since about 8pm I've gone from feeling like shit to feeling like ten piles of shit.

I've got headaches, muscle aches, eye tension, and I feel generally lifeless. It's kind of insane how dependent on that shit I've been, I hope this passes quickly. I'm also a bit worried after reading someone saying that life isn't the same without caffeine, they don't feel as energised or as alive even months later. What the fuck man.

Episode four of the new 24 season for me this evening. Bauer is such a lad in this season.

You might want to give yourself a little break to limit the shock of Kiefer's ageing D3, lol.

It's on Now TV, it's Sky's equivalent of Netflix that features all the stuff Sky somehow keeps exclusive (like HBO stuff, Game of Thrones and such). I use that and Netflix on my PS3 for ultimate programming coverage, only like £13/month for both.

Who knows, but it's seriously film-quality shit. The production quality of the gore... holy fuck, easily the worst stuff I've ever seen on TV and kind of pushing it for film too.

I'm glad to hear season two continues the excellence, and while it's sad that it's probably coming to an end at least it means there's an opportunity to tidy everything up and bring it to a sweet conclusion.

One problem a lot of US shows have is that they don't know when to stop. As amazing as Hannibal is, I have trouble imagining how they'd keep it as tense and shocking over even five seasons.

Just got through the first season of Hannibal and now onto the second. It took a while to really get its claws in but I I can honestly say it's one of the most well-crafted and delicately written shows I've ever seen. It completely subverts typical expectations of Hannibal fiction by flipping roles and leaving the viewer as much in the dark as the characters. It's great, but definitely a 'much watch every episode' kind of programme.

I think you're right, romance definitely becomes a big factor later on but the initial stages really come down to raw attraction and heavy flirting. I discovered when I started dating more that when I played it safe I got nowhere, whereas being brave about touching the girl (this sounds awful but I just mean casually putting your hand on her while talking, etc) and being 100% forward with my intentions almost immediately led to repeat dates and beyond.

Just going for the kiss is pretty important because, basically, it's what the girl expects from a man and getting this wrong can actually be disastrous not just for you but also her belief in you as a confident guy — just like not asking for a number when the opportunity is there. It can be terrifying if you're not great at reading the signals, but a key thing to learn IMO is how to play off failed attempts (i.e. girl turns away) without it going awkward as hell. Same for the more physical stuff: you've got to push, and she won't always go along with it so think how to pull back without it getting weird.

At the beginning it's not about a relationship, if you're thinking that far ahead you need to stop because it'll make every single encounter seem way more important than it is and you'll freeze yourself due to so much pressure, or even worse appear needy. Just go looking for a good time with someone you find hot, and IF something develops from there great. If not, you've both had a good experience and may even remain friends (or 'friends' ).
