I think special subforums (spotlight etc.) should be above the creative gallery forums.

I agree, and that is to be the case once the spotlight stuff is all implemented.

I also see your point Zacker about the title of the release forum's length. For now I've shortened it because the spotlight stuff isn't in place yet (I'm hoping to get that done within the next week or so).

I'm sorry you feel that way Sentura, but all evidence I've seen thus far (including MapCore's very detailed statistics) shows that the vast majority of people visited most of the development forums very rarely, if at all; instead, people gravitated towards the three WIP forums and the rest were almost completely ignored (we're talking 0.5–2% of MapCore's overall visits in a given month).

If activity ever does rise to the point where sub-topics can be justified then that's certainly something I'll look into.

Yeah the 360 is a bit of a sticking point for me seeing as I don't have one, but I'm fairly sure I will eventually. They're already getting pretty cheap (although to get all the wifi and shit you're still looking at PS3-esque prices), and that's obviously going to continue.

The price isn't really the problem in my case, though. I just don't have the room for a 360 in addition to the PS3 and Wii. Need to get the media room sorted out.

Fable 2 is another game I'm really interested in, having loved the original (Thanks to avoiding all the hype!).

This issue occurred this morning and should have been fixed after about 15 minutes (I believe I caught it almost immediately). phpBB wasn't terminating sessions properly, thus clogging the connection tube.

No — you can change the fog's colour to whatever you want. You have a relatively flat blue in your skybox so it shouldn't be difficult to get them to convincingly match up in this case.

I didn't forget — that was phpBB being its classic flaky self. I had to recalculate the forum information after shuffling stuff around, and in the process phpBB helpfully added all the posts in EoT to users' post counts. It seems the 'don't increment post count' setting only kicks in at the point of being posted.

I'll look into if there's a way this can be undone, but this is a bit of terrible coding I might not be able to work around automatically.

I loved Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel — possibly on the same level as Mario 64 IMO, and definitely one of Rare's finest. I was a bit put off by the fact the third in the series will have a lot of emphasis on vehicles, but from what I've seen it does seem like they've done a really good job (Spore-like editor, except with lots of actual functionality rather than just looks).

There're meant to be 1,600 different parts you can use to build vehicular monstrosities, hence the name. I'm guessing this'll integrate with the puzzle element. I've seen planes and boats in other videos so there's going to be a lot of procedural fun there by the looks of it.

The new gameplay video is pretty cool, with a bunch of reappearing characters and some classic music. All footage is from the overworld, not the actual levels:

Shame the trailer shows none of the weird humour that made the originals so distinctive. Better still be in there.

Done, although those threads really do need updating or remaking — they're full of dead links.

So it's basically some British guy in his early 20s running a forum who pissed off one of his European members and ended up getting stabbed to death for it.

In an effort to boost activity in the development forums, what were formerly nine forums have been compressed into just two: 3D and 2D. Hopefully this will encourage people to check them out more often rather than be scared away by the prospect of having to click into a whole load of forums every time they visit, and also keep a steadier stream of new posts flowing in each forum.

The front page has also been cleaned up a bit, with forum descriptions trimmed down and unnecessary information stripped out. The goal here is to require a little less scrolling before getting to the meat.

For a while things will be monitored to see what effect the changes have, and modifications made if necessary. Once that's all settled down, the new spotlight process will be fully implemented and the forum header adjusted to accommodate thumbnails of your beautiful work. :D

  • Work Release Guidelines

    • Thrik
    • September 29, 2008 at 3:14 AM

This forum is for sharing a finished version of your work with the community. That doesn't mean it has to be the last version of your work you ever do (ie: you can release a version 2 in this forum too), but it should be something you can describe as 'done'.

Examples of things you can post here:

    • Finished/nearly-finished/beta levels (ie: something you're happy for people to put on servers)
    • High-detail models
    • Model packs
    • Photo galleries
    • Texture packs
    • Traditional/digital paintings

    Things you shouldn't post here:

    • Individual photos
    • Individual textures
    • Minor models (eg: miscellaneous level assets)
    • Sketches & draft paintings
    • Very incomplete levels

Don't forget we have a 3D and 2D forum that can be used for sharing anything that falls into the second list. The reason the above criteria is used is so the work release forum doesn't become too congested, ensuring authors' work isn't buried in a mass of random texture/model/help threads.

It is for me. Perhaps cheap or on-board sound cards aren't great, but if you have an Audigy/X-Fi/etc it will just record whatever's being outputted by the card with perfect clarity.

WeGame is quite popular nowadays. It ties in with games and the website, and is a community type thing. The videos on there are mostly recorded with their software.

The critical difference between this and FRAPS is this has to be developed to support specific games (list), while FRAPS can generally record anything your graphics card is outputting.

    There's also http://www.planetgamecam.com/.

FRAPS does remain the best at what it does IMO.

    Ace.

I'd still recommend upgrading to Firefox 3, though. The official site speaks for itself.

List your add-ons if you have any (Tools > Add-Ons). Also go to Tools > Options > Content and make sure the appropriate boxes are ticked; while you're there, go into the image Exceptions area and ensure there's nothing there.

It also looks like you're still using Firefox 2, which was made obsolete with the release of Firefox 3 a few months ago. Most definitely get that now. Reinstalling Firefox 2 could obviously help too, but if you're going to do that you might as well get the significantly better Firefox 3.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- The Foreign Ministry says pirates have seized a Ukrainian-operated ship off Somalia. The ministry says the Faina was sailing with 21 people on board under the Belize flag, though it is operated by Ukrainian managing company Tomax Team Inc.

The ministry says in a statement that the ship's captain reported being surrounded by three boats of armed men Thursday afternoon.

The ship's passengers include 17 Ukrainian citizens including the captain, as well as three Russians and one Latvian citizen.

The ministry had no information on the ship's cargo. But the Interfax news agency cited an unnamed source as saying the ship was loaded with about 30 T-72 tanks and spare parts for them.

Pirates is one thing, but pirates with fuckin' tanks on their ships? It's like the new generation of cannons.
