It's just a pretty tone sequencer. You can make music with it to a very limited degree: left-to-right is the time in the sequence, top-to-bottom is the pitch.

Try drawing the same thing as a large cartoon version and see if it works, and then try to produce a pixel version that resembles it. Pixel art is all about using the pixels cleverly to give the impression of there being more detail than there is, but if you don't have a good idea of what kind of detail you're trying to suggest it defeats the point.
You do need conventional artistic skills to pull off good pixel art, so if you can't make a large version look good then you really do have a problem. ![]()
I have so many unfinished games it's not even funny. Weirdly though I still play them all, slowly inching through each one — I kind of like the way doing them so slowly makes the storyline take a long time to get through, as if it makes it more epic or something. ![]()
My main ones right now:
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
For those who like the idea of building your own vehicles and such, this game is a dream come true. Fans of the original like me will get a particular joy from the countless throwbacks, including a level made out of the Nintendo 64 games' fuckin' levels, and constant remixing of the soundtrack. I have to take this in small chunks, but it's really fun.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
I play this when I fancy something a bit more thoughtful, as it's god damned hard when you play it on the hardest available difficulty from the outset. Takes a really long time to progress on such a difficulty, but it's fun and the story is really well engineered.
Fable 2
Really good, definitely one of my highlights of the past few years. It basically builds upon everything the original Fable accomplished, and is seriously immersive once it gets its hooks into you. The sheer depth to the world and the things you can waste time doing are a joy for me throughout, where even relatively pointless secondary quests are still worthwhile because of the funny/interesting storytelling. I've finished the main story but I still have a number of minor quests to do, and once the second expansion comes out I'm going to get both of them at once.
Killzone 2
Excellent shooter, which delivers very exciting entertainment when you've got home from work and just want to spend half an hour shooting shit up mindlessly. Similarly to Banjo, I have to take this in small chunks as without a strong narrative I find it hard to play for long periods of time.
Metal Gear Solid 4
Playing it for the second time, properly exploring the different routes (it's possible to skip entire battles full of unique situations if you choose a different approach). The tactical depth and such in this game is immense, with almost every encounter having played out totally different to how it did the first time.
A nice example is a troublesome few soldiers walking around together. The first time I played it, I just knocked them out with a sleeping gas mine. The second time, I hung above on a ledge and dropped down on one which crushed him to the floor, grabbed the second guy from behind and put him in a chokehold, shot the first guy in the head while using the second as a human shield, and then slashed the throat of the guy in my arms. Fuckin' brutal, and fuckin' hardcore. I felt like a legend for at least a few minutes after doing that. ![]()
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Typically superb Zelda action, which kind of takes me back to my childhood when I used to love Ocarina of Time due to its very similar presentation and such. Really no complaints about this game at all, although there's not much to rave about either other than affirming that it delivers a nice combination of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker's gameplay.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Absolutely fantastic. Is this game underrated? If it is you need to fuck that off and play it right now, because although it doesn't really do anything outstandingly innovative it puts it all together really well, has a great atmosphere, and has an engrossing story. Kind of reminds me of the non-urban parts in Broken Sword, actually.

My opinion is: FTW!!
I bet my dad'll like this too, seeing as he's always loved western films and loves FPS games.
That's just idiotic. That kind of thing is good for company morale.
I prefer it when the customisation is relatively limited, but still lets you make your character look unique and like yourself (or whatever persona you wish). For example the kind of stuff you get in Oblivion is way OTT in my opinion and takes too much time to piss around with, whereas the Xbox LIVE character thing is pretty much perfect.
Open Steam and find out.
No, although I've had no cause to not continue playing/enjoying it (reached the second chapter a week or so ago). I just take games slowly — I'm still semi-regularly playing through Uncharted, which I started in 2007 yet still love every session. ![]()

Pretty much sums up my BioShock experience. ![]()
I was enjoying it, but at a certain point I realised it was just underwater room after underwater room full of Splicers, turrets, or Big Daddies, and it just started to bore me. I never did see the fuss about its gameplay — I know you could mix things up a lot by using your various abilities and tools, but I just couldn't be bothered coming up with superfluously elaborate ways of doing things.
The artistic direction and atmosphere was remarkable, though. Until I got bored it was the best game ever.
Reminds me of my experience with Doom 3 actually, come to think of it.
Kind of got bored of it even in BioShock 1, though. ![]()
It does seem startlingly familiar. But then, maybe they're doing a Metal Gear Solid on us and there'll actually be wildly different areas later on. ![]()
Or maybe they'll just bleed Rapture until it's completely dry, with each of the four planned sequels simply being in a different area. ![]()
Doubtful. For all Sony's flaws, one thing they've always consistently done is fund innovative and/or high-quality games and then keep them exclusive, obviously to try and get people to buy the console (which doesn't really make them any money) and then buy further games of theirs (which does). ![]()
Quote from D3adsMy 7600GT died a few months ago after just over a year of service which meant the waranty was out of date, bugger
I've got too many other things to think about and I needed a quick fix so I opted for the high-end AGP card 7950GT;[Blocked Image: http://picture.yatego.com/images/4756bcbcc93620.3/7900GSAGP.jpg]
You'll probably tell me it's shit compared to the 8800 or whatever but oh well
When this dies I'll probably get a new rig with a PCI-E mobo.
8800 is a 2006 card, man! ![]()
I'm sure it's fine, but jeeze you need to join the rest of us in 2009. You're not still mapping for that 1998 engine are you? ![]()
at the temporary sound effects!
Eh, on the teaser page itself you can barely see the other side of his face — if you look again it's not at all obvious that it's mirrored, and things like the mouth are still asymmetrical.
I think the width of his head is correct, it's just that he has a beard and more neck muscle which makes him look a lot bigger. Most people look fatter with a proper beard. ![]()
I'd imagine they'll be fine. You're still going to need thousands upon thousands of pieces of hardware — you pretty much need the equivalent of one current-day top-end PC for each person using the service.
They would probably be forced to look into a more cloud-based solution for stuff like GPUs and whatnot, but if anyone's going to specialise in that it'll be the current giants like NVIDIA as nobody can touch then in the graphics processing department.
Quote from BuddyI like this vid but it seems to have too much camera movement, could've been a lot smoother. Or was this only for commentary purpose.
Yeah, just to demonstrate that it's adjustable. The original smooth video is here:
Logitech ones do generally seem very well received.
Yeah the outdoor HDR effect is definitely fail, although the pictures where you can't see the sky look superb IMO.
Buddy, I don't think cosplay is strictly about finding an exact match for the character — that's unlikely to happen. No need to start calling people ugly and fat; what if they see your horrid insults? ![]()
