Die Hard 3 is definitely the best in the series IMO, to throw that out there.

But yeah I do find I enjoy sequels more than the original quite often, but I suspect there's more to it than the quality of the film itself. For example a sequel has to concern itself less with establishing all the backstory and shit the original typically has to, and also because you're generally already a fan of the series you're going to be looking forward to a sequel more and will probably be more into it.

It's like how The Dark Knight is fantastic, but it's very much built on the foundation of Batman Begins which is a truly amazing standalone film. Take Batman Begins away and suddenly The Dark Knight doesn't have the same strength thanks to a lack of characterisation and backstory, yet the latter is arguably a more sharply produced film. In that specific example I can't actually choose one though because I love 'em both.

So my general stance is I either like the film or I don't. Too much headache trying to rank them!

I'm sure our Middle Ages ancestors would say similar things about how we've bastardised and dumbed down their language.

To be honest the only thing I feel after reading that is pity. I can't be mad at a man who's basically wasted half his adult life on something and still has nothing to show for it at the end due to obsessive control issues (probably literally has some kind of disorder).

To be honest I wasn't even thinking about this in a single-player context (unless CoD's higher difficulty can apply to multiplayer too). Being killed in a few shots is pretty much what I'm used to from the PC Battlefield multiplayer games, though.

It's called realism mode for a reason.

I can't think of any good modern warfare games I've played other than Battlefield and Call of Duty. I've certainly played as a space marine more often during the past several years than anything else.

I'm actually feeling kind of optimistic about this, mostly because of its Afghanistan setting — that place is pretty wild with unconventional combat at the moment (as hinted at by the suicide bomb guy in the trailer) and as clarified above the country has a very diverse environment.

Call of Duty's take is great and all, but it's a very different modern warfare story with all the nuclear Russia aspect and such. From what I can tell the difference between Call of Duty and Medal of Honor will be like the difference between Halo and Gears of War. I don't think they're stupid enough to just parrot what CoD's done.

Oh, you mean people haven't seen his acting flexibility? I thought you meant it was like a big break for him or something, as if he's never done great acting before.

Has to be something I'm really passionate about if I want to do it at home. There's no point me getting home and saying "OK I really need to work on my personal design skills, this weekend I'll do it I promise!". I need an actual project that'll be turned into something people will see/use rather than something just for experience.

So get yourself involved with something, like a mod or a personal indie project or something. You may think you don't have the time, but by committing yourself to something you should find yourself motivated.

Eh, life's too short for that shit. I don't believe in a religion but I wouldn't say I'm against them — I don't really mind if people want to waste their time with superstition. If I spot an opportunity to get drunk and have fun I'm up for it. Hell, I'd probably be out there getting drunk on Independence Day if I lived in the US despite it being about them fucking us over!

Also maybe I'm weird but I do like having an opportunity to give some nice stuff to people I love. Again, in an ideal world you'd do it more often... but shit, twice a year is enough.

You'd be a happier person if you just embraced it and had a good time rather than feeling like you have to make a stand against it.

The Christian thing really bothers you? I'd imagine the majority of people celebrating Christmas don't really follow Christianity at all — it's simply become a public holiday that revolves around having fun. Most public holidays have some shitty origin (eg: Guy Fawkes night, Easter) but they're still nice because it's an opportunity to do something different.

I mean seriously, who thinks about the whole Jesus birth thing? All everyone thinks about is Santa and decorations, just like how at Easter everyone thinks about chocolate and bunnies.

And I don't know about your friends and family, but I get along with mine pretty much all year. However it is nice to have an event like Christmas to use as a chance to get together, as normally there's no particular reason for doing so. OK so in an ideal world it'd happen all the time, but when your family reaches into the dozens it's not exactly practical.

There's no real downside to Christmas IMO. Okay so you might have to give some people some stuff, but you don't have to spend much and you usually get something in return (as long as it'd edible I'm usually happy with that). It's not a big deal.

Yeah, that point seems especially worrying. Even the European front of WW2 had more variety in locations than I'd imagine you'd encounter in Afghanistan, but then again I don't really know that much about the country's land. I doubt it matters overall as games with incredibly repetitive environments like BioShock have still done really well.

The timing is kind of amusing, especially when you remember that Call of Duty did pretty much exactly the same thing back in the day when it leapfrogged Medal of Honor's success and was in many ways indistinguishable.

I don't think it'll be a bad game. It is Medal of Honor after all, and from what I can tell it's the original team working on it. Have there even been any other games that take place in Afghanistan, a country we've been waging war in for years and far longer than Iraq?

At the very least it'll be fun living out Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (Now there's a game concept!).
