To be honest the whole article is an absolute joke. If you read the original Red Cross bulletin it's not anything they've made a remotely big deal about, only that it's been brought up for discussion. Of course, this is The Daily Mail we're dealing with here so it being blown way out of proportion is hardly surprising.

With that said, they did say they're discussing the fact that 600 million gamers are "virtually violating international humanitarian law", which by definition makes them war criminals. But then that'd fall into the same category as virtual murder, virtual theft, etc. It's not something anyone with a shred of sense takes seriously.

Skjalg, I've updated the OP with a Google checkout that covers a whole bunch of prices, however I'm not sure how to make it so you can adjust the quantity. I'll see if there's anything I can do when I can.

Oh yeah I totally agree guys and only provide PayPal as I know some people prefer it (there's been a fair few donations through it), although to be honest the same can be said of any site like this that holds your money — Google Checkout included. Almost exactly the scenario described in the link on the last page has happened to me: Google froze my account due to me accepting donations despite not being a registered charity, and it's taken a good week or so of emails to get it resolved. Google has been very courteous at least.

Basically if I'm to continue taking contributions I need to stop describing them as donations, and instead put up a 'Buy' button that allows you guys to essentially buy a subscription. In half an hour or so you should be able to see a Google Checkout button again, except this time you need to choose one of the available amounts. Sorry to those who've wanted to help but are averse to PayPal, and a huge thanks to those who've continued to contribute. I won't get into naming names as I don't want to put people on the spot but I had a particularly nice contribution the other day.

My advice is to get money out of online systems like PayPal and Google Checkout as quickly as possible. There's absolutely no benefit to having it sitting there rather than being withdrawn into your bank account, and it means you're always at risk of the money being frozen. Of course if you use it as nothing more than a payment gateway (you can now simply feed PayPal your debit details and such without making an account) your risk is pretty much non-existent which is what I always do.

Argh, disaster. Hope you guys can figure something out!

Bearing in mind that almost every game here is £40 in a box new, £45 for only the most popular/new games.

Haha. I've never tried Uncharted multiplayer but the co-op in UC3 looks quite cool, apparently it's a campaign that takes place in locations from all three games and has a basic but decent storyline. Going to finish UC3 first so it doesn't ruin the locations for me but it's nice to see an effort made with the co-op for once.

Need a high-ticket filter.

Are you playing multiplayer? Because the aiming mechanics are and always were different between the two — there's no aim snapping in single-player, which now feels a lot better than before IMO. I suppose the aiming is quite slow, but then it was always quite slow in Uncharted and I usually play console shooters on a low sensitivity anyway.

Working on it guys, Google is being cooperative and it looks like I'll be able to resume using it shortly — and I think any existing donations will remain paid.

Sorry dissonance, it's because I'm in the UK so my accounts use GBP but I tend to work things out in USD.

There is an alarming issue with Google Checkout right now, which is that they're saying because I'm not a registered charity I shouldn't be using it for donations. I think it might be because Google give special treatment to 'donations' such as not taxing them, but that's only allowed if you're a charity. So I've said they can be taxed or whatever, just treat them like normal payments and am awaiting their response.

For now only PayPal can be accepted and the Google Checkout donations already paid might end up being refunded if this isn't sorted out. What a mistake of mine to try and give people more choice.

Currently on an Uncharted crusade. The GF just played through the first two with my guidance and it was actually pretty spectacular just watching those games as opposed to playing (already done UC2 twice, once with nothing but tranquilisers) and seeing someone else's reactions to the epic awesomeness that is the entirety of the second game.

Currently playing through Uncharted 3 myself now that they've sorted out the aiming, very much loving it and the humour seems to have been dialled up even more after UC2 which was already a big increase over UC1. Why so many developers of today still struggle to understand what companies like LucasArts figured out in the 80s and 90s — that humour will make your game stick in the hearts and minds of people for years to come — is beyond me. Give me more funny games!

Regarding numbers as obviously you deserve to know where your donations are going, hosting costs sit in the $200–$300 range per year and my hope is to also invest in better forum software which is going to be a one-off hit of about $150 and then yearly renewals of $50 — so all in all we're looking at yearly costs of about $350. Donations so far are approaching the $200 mark which is absolutely splendid — I've been doing this out of pocket for years so it's lovely to get some help.

Thanks guys, I've had a bunch already — the Core loves you all.

I was thinking of doing some kind of badges/titles or at least a list of contributors somewhere which gives you some kudos for contributions, this'd be much easier on the new layout as it could go in the sidebar. I've seen contributor badges used on other forums and in some cases they even get special privileges but I don't know what exactly to do regarding that, needs some thought. I do kind of like the idea of giving recognition via a badge/title though. By all means leave suggestions!

Thanks for that suggestion e-freak, I'll do some estimations when I have a moment and will find some way of putting it public. Hopefully when the forum revamp is underway I can get a proper donation page up which has such info and the above list on it.
