Yeah, it's clearly a rip. While I can't deny that Zynga's version is very charming graphically, I think we all know that it's not a particularly big deal to take something someone else has already done the cranial work for — and more importantly, tested whether or not it's a successful concept that people want to play — and then slap some nicer paint over it. When you've got thousands of staff that's an incredible weak move, glad the masses are being alerted to it. ![]()

Also, lol at all the sites that've protested: http://sopastrike.com/

Great to see such high-profile protests. Reddit is shut too. Shame they decided to keep Wikipedia working on mobiles as I bet half its users primarily use them to access it, but hey.

Hrm, I can't really see anything that might be causing this after a cursory investigation. Unless some of your cookies have gotten mangled somehow — could you try deleting your MapCore cookies?
I'm moving the forum server entirely soon as the first phase of the various stuff planned, with any luck that will solve this issue.

Any kind of pattern which might go along with it happening? For example, does it happen when you've recently visited the forum (ie: within the last half hour or so) or does that not seem to matter? And does it mark posts you have read as having been read?
Just trying to rule things out.

Anyone else been getting this?

Yeah, that annoys the hell out of me. The next patch's WIP changelog in the Battlelog forums include a nerf to the jet's cannons, though — as well as being given more damage by stingers.

That's a good point, and I noticed that too. When I watched the video I looked away for a moment and didn't even realise the world had changed, as they do look very similar. At the moment if you did a blind test (ie: take screenshots of random parts of each world and identify which is which) people would probably find it difficult to say which world is which.
I can see one world is a little more colourful than the other, but I think the effect is too muted and while subtlety can be wonderful it's a bit excessive in this case. Ideally the other world should contract much more IMO, to the point where one genuinely feels colourful and lovely while the other is as moody and dark as it is.
Music is great, and while I'm not completely sold on the mechanics being that fun I realise it's only a short glimpse and also adventure/puzzle games often look boring when watched (humour and shock is a good way of offsetting this).

Yeah I remember it always being on the back of his head. It was even on the back of his head in the movie, and here's a shot from the first game:

Looks awesome IMO. I'm really excited about this game, considering that stealth has always been my #1 type of gaming experience. Some of the stuff in the OXM interview put my mind at rest regarding any possible dumbing down of gameplay, especially with the revelation (to me) of the hardcore mode.

Wish the video wasn't so bright, though — made some parts look worse than they should have done. Unless that's how the game actually looks in which case I'll be adjusting the hell out of that.

Was that a bible I saw potentially being used to kill someone?

It's probably worth pointing out that Bing maps has also provided pretty much exactly this same thing for quite a while now (it created a buzz last year), however you do need a browser plug-in to use it whereas this one uses the fancy new WebGL approach to things — which is kind of awesome in itself if you follow that industry. It wouldn't surprise me if Nokia is using Bing's images to produce this as even Google hasn't got all the aerial maps that Bing has.

You're probably seeing it right. It's not exactly Battlefield 3, but it's a big step up from the kind of maps we've been using for years — I think higher-resolution photos would make it look a lot better, perhaps it's a performance thing. Whether it's actually more useful than a combination of traditional maps and Google's street view efforts I don't know, but it's certainly a nice toy.

The aerial photos thing kind of falls apart now that I think about it when it comes to large cities, though. Aerial photos typically capture stuff at angles (check out Bing maps), so how do they get the sides of skyscrapers in New York when there's going to be loads of other skyscrapers blocking the plane's view?

Man that is incredible! Prague and London look amazing... I hope they add more locations in time, like Moscow and St Petersburg..
How is this done? I was thinking parallax mapping on aerial photos but I'm not sure...If you mean bump mapping, that's what I think too. The shots must be from aerial fly-overs to get the sides of buildings, and presumably they couple that with height data which is acquired... somehow. Sure beats Google's approach of getting people to actually model 3D buildings (I think there's like five that're 3D in Nottingham as a result).
