Oh yeah, CTF was always my mode of choice. The thrill of grabbing a well-defended flag and perfecting your route home was more exhilarating than I've encountered in any game ever.

As for turrets, in T2 it was more about quantity than anything. You'd basically plant a 'turret farm' around the flag in as strategic a way as possible to ensure that by the time a capper has come in and out they're dead. Hopefully T:A has generous limits on turrets like T2!

I absolutely loved Tribes 2 so I definitely plan on giving this a go, although I'm waiting until the final product is released as I'm past my days of dealing with alphas/betas.

It does look very much in the Tribes vein though from what I've seen in videos, and when in motion is does look quite lovely. Are there still turrets and stuff like that?

Some new media has been dripping out. Liking the look of it, although I really want to see the other continent styles (lush, snow, volcanic). :derp:

Did you ever play PlanetSide? That was an MMOFPS and the lag was actually not an issue at all most of the time. They're working on a sequel right now too which should be even more testing considering the added strain of more complicated technology. No idea how they did it but the latency was no worse than you might find in, say, a game of Battlefield. As such I'm definitely of the opinion that real-time action in an MMO is perfectly possible if the developers actually bother to prioritise it, which the Guild Wars 2 guys seem to be doing.

I agree though, having never enjoyed an MMORPG before my breath is most definitely held. But considering how much I've enjoyed some single-player RPGs (mostly Fable and Zelda) I'd love to see a truly epic online on I can actually enjoy.

They can place turrets down on the battlefield, equip backpack kits that allow them to use mines, grenades, tools, and medicine, and equip new weapons into their hands using weapon kits, from flamethrowers to "pulling" cannons.

That's me sold on this game right there.

Just stumbled upon this bizarre little site, Mapstalgia - Video game maps drawn from memory.

At first I was all , but as I kept looking I started to get all as a weird kind of nostalgia was brought on.

I haven't played or seen many of the games featured pretty much since they came out (including HL1), so looking at an abstract overview coming from someone else's memory kind of triggered my own memories and made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'm going to be honest, I've not played an MMO yet that's managed to hold me for any significant length of time — but this looks excellent. Visually it's wonderful, something I remember Guild Wars 1 could lay claim to. The gameplay also looks much more palatable to me, with real-time combat by the looks of it and a less contrived approach to quest structure. The world also just generally looks like a really nice place to immerse yourself in, and I hope there's lots of fun incidental stuff (like you might find in, say, Fable).

Definitely keeping an eye on this.

Funny cause I never felt compelled to finish this game. I've been playing it on and off for over a year and still haven't finished it lol.

When you eventually finish it you'll look back and think "that was awesome". I too took like 1.5 years to finish it, though.

Just got back into Twitter again after not using it for ages, mostly because they've now added equivalents of Facebook's 'like' and 'comment' features ('favourite' and 'reply') which make the site much nicer for having discussions and interacting with IMO. These features were always there I think, but the way they've integrated them more clearly into the design is lovely. Pity this isn't yet reflected properly in the iPhone app, though.

Any new names that should be added to this thread? I am of course still 'thrik', and as my friends are mostly MapCore I thought I'd pay my respects by making my Limbo background blorange. Muahahahaha!

Has anyone actually played Dream Heights and can confirm whether or not Zynga has done the usual 'added value' thing? I can understand that, after all it's what most early RTS games did and the industry is full of such iteration. But the implication was that it's literally a like-for-like remake with some things moved around and use of Zynga's traditional (but not superior) art style, which NimbleBit could easily have done themselves had they used different artists.

In other words: that this isn't like Zynga's usually admittedly derivative but slightly innovative games, but instead a more shameless rip-off. The fact Zynga's head distanced himself from its development in the interview kind of says a lot.

Yeah I think they'll survive, but it's probably a stark wake-up call for them after probably getting a bit complacent about their success. As HP says though, it's really startling to see stuff like this.
