    Oh, you guys.

I have experienced most of HL1. After getting stuck I eventually returned with cheats and skipped to the last chapter so I could see the ending.

I also tried to replay it back when HL:S came out but I found it so god awful to look at I just couldn't get back into it. Even though HL1 is one of my all-time favourites, I just can't handle its graphics anymore. Just like my other big love, Metal Gear Solid 1.

Completed HL2 and its episodes, though.

Something I've discovered during the past few days is just how polarizing Xen was. I've seen a pretty much even split between people who love the shit out of it and are dismayed it's not going to come with the initial release, and those who think it was an awkward and annoying ending.

I personally never actually got to Xen. I got pretty much right up to it, as I remember the Lamda shit, but then I got stuck and never continued. So BM:S will be the first time I ever properly finish Half-Life 1, and ironically enough it's going to launch with a cut-off point the same as where I got to.

Oh god, just watched the trailer. Oh god.

I definitely feel like I've missed something having not played Peace Walker, and I suspect a lot of people never will. So hopefully there's some kind of fill-in cutscene or something that explains the basics, although the gist I got was that prior to this game Big Boss and his boys eventually set up Outer Heaven and have a big-ass army and base(s) at their disposal. Presumably this game deals with how things go sour from there...? The fall of Big Boss? Totally want to see that.

No idea who the scarred dude and Paz are, though. Ah well, I'm sure more will become clear as usual with MGS trailers. Looks fuckin' great, though.

Not watched the trailer yet but I hope they don't force Peace Walker on us to get the plot. Portable Ops was set in the MGS3 era too but it was all pretty non-essential stuff as I understand it.

Was in Leeds last weekend, here's the first half of a bunch of museum photos I took (prefixed with a few shots of the hotel room ).

I kind of suspect it won't be literally open world though, more that the engine can now handle extremely expansive areas. I just don't see Kojima giving up his scripting control by letting you craft your own course. That's a good thing though, MGS3 and MGS4 already took the series quite far in that direction by letting you take multiple routes (skipping entire areas in favour of others) and having pretty damn big sandbox areas.

Some Twitter reactions to the footage:

Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING

    Quote

Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow.

Loving that shot, atmosphere oozing out of it. Seems like a very sweet project to work on, hopefully it'll be just as sweet to play!

Looks a bit busy because of the bolts, I imagine a whole floor of this would look a little weird. Unless it's specifically to emphasise strength (eg: walls of a dinosaur-containing room or some shit) it'd be worth reducing the number of them I think.

I think it could be good for the storytelling. There's been so many GTA games now, if I have to go through another 'rags to riches' story I'm going to end up killing myself. It'd be a really interesting twist if you played as both a 'rags' guy and a 'riches' guy, especially if they clashed with each other and a narrative was built around their interactions with each other. They could even go 24 on our asses and have you play the same missions from both perspectives, with 24-style split panel framing to show what the other guy's doing.

OK getting carried away and will most likely be disappointed with the reality now.

No way in hell is it going to look that good on consoles.

Yes. I think if you take away all the anti-aliasing and run at about 640p it'll look a bit closer.

Maybe they'll make it a bridge game so it comes out for this generation and the next, kind of like what happened when this gen started. The timing would make it somewhat ideal for that.

Looks like we might be playing as at least two different characters, btw? I'm seeing a dark guy in some shots and the grey-haired dude we saw in the original media in others.
