A lot of people probably won't even pick up on the changes, it's been so long since they played the original — like me. I think it's mostly about capturing the essence of HL1 and it sounds like that's been accomplished. Have entire bits been skipped out or is everything more or less there, even if modified?

i've had a nokia n900 for a while because of the keyboard, but i've considered getting a new nokia lumia 920, depending on how well it is received.i have an aversion for anything java-based (read: android), and i don't like apple enough to buy their phones.

Pretty sure Android is built on Linux and C. Apps can be built using the Java syntax, but the Java engine itself like you might install on a desktop computer isn't used. Similar to how web browsers nowadays all have their own Javascript engines which all use the same language. This shouldn't be a factor entering remotely into your consideration of a device IMO.

Crazy beyond belief, but far from the first time I've heard of stuff like this happening — sometimes just walking into a sensitive area is enough to be jailed. I think at this point you'd be pretty much retarded to take photos of anything that could remotely be considered sensitive, a thousand times more so when in a foreign country. Just not worth the risk.

I have a HTC One X and I'm not feeling too great about it right now. I'd had an iPhone 4 for two years previously and was satisfied with that in almost every way, I just wanted something new and a little bit bigger.

The One X is just too big, though. It's the same size as the S3 and I just can't figure out why they feel the need to make their flagship phones so big — this is a step backwards IMO, after so many years spent trying to miniaturise them. With that said the iPhone is a little small, so I suspect the iPhone 5 might actually be about the perfect size. My main issue with the One X is I can't type or use interfaces properly because I don't have huge hands and I do genuinely struggle a bit to get my thumb all the way across without having to stabilise the phone with my other hand.

So I'd seriously test out this size of phone before you consider one. The main phones right now are the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 ($$$). There's also the imminent Nokia 920 which runs the apparently great Windows Phone 8, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 from the previous year which still gets software updates but is smaller than the S3.

Android itself is great, but then so is iOS. I'd find it almost impossible to choose one of the two if it weren't for the fact that IMO Apple ships better apps by default, so if you like to have a phone that comes with most of the stuff you're likely to need and for it to 'just work' (lol) really well you will get that with an iPhone. With Android I was unsatisfied with most of the apps it came with and had to seek out replacements.

I disliked that tbh, I liked the gritty look of the Gotham in Batman Begins (filmed in Chicago), the new Gotham was just New York and blatently so...

I think it works. The whole idea is to emphasise how far Gotham has come thanks to Batman, and using the relatively sparkling New York contrasts with the grotty Chicago-based Gotham really well. Of course it's worth bearing in mind we're only talking about the cityscape shots here, much of the street-level shooting was done in other cities (including London).

Admittedly I did find myself taken out of the fiction for just a moment when I spotted a couple of obvious New York landmarks, but then I guess if I were more familiar with Chicago the same would be the case in the earlier films. I guess a city that I don't see much helps to make it feel like a fictional city.

Whatever the case, I think they did a great job of creating a believable Gotham by mashing loads of cities together. The third film's Gotham definitely has a distinctly different look, but that's kind of the point.

Late to the party, but just saw this and though it was awesome! I can't say it was better than its incredible predecessors, but I can't way it was worse either — a very fitting and satisfying conclusion to two films that'd already raised the bar to crazy levels.

Bane was just a superb villain from beginning to end. From the moment he was introduced with Zimmer's 'oh shit is gon go down today' music to the very end, just a totally captivating performance and he gave off a truly evil aura.

I agree that his death was very abrupt, but in a way I think it was the right move because they'd just made you sympathetic to how someone became such an evil fuck in the first place (quite an accomplishment in itself) and it was better to make his exit clean IMO, leaving our memory of Bane as something created by terrible circumstances rather than an inherently evil person like other Batman villains. Plus, Batman had essentially already beaten him and it was only his policy of not finishing his enemies off that allowed his survival.

It was also pretty sweet to have a brief appearance from

    Scarecrow

, who's now appeared in all three.

Ra's Al Ghul being back on screen had me jizzing a little too, even if just as a hallucination.

Great film, and having now seen all three relatively closely together it's really striking how they contrast with each other — the transition of Gotham from something truly horrible in Batman Begins into a really clean, peaceful city as presented in The Dark Knight Rises is great. Interesting how TDKR depicts Gotham in daylight a lot more than its predecessors, emphasising the lifting of crime and evil I guess, and making Bane's attempts to bring it back even more powerful.

SCP-087 is a master class in producing a feeling of dread and tension without really resorting to jump scares. Its technology and gameplay is limited (only a small EXE) but if you read this:

    http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-087

Then download the tiny Unity package here:

    http://downloads.phpnuke.org/en/downloa ... CP-087.htm

It should do its job. Unless you read or watch anything about it all by Googling it, in which case you'll just ruin it and it won't work. Headphones and dark room recommended, of course.

The interface in itself is a huge thing. There's definitely increasing demand for playing PC games on a TV, and Valve is clearly timing things well so they're offering the perfect platform to make that happen. I myself used a gaming PC with my TV for a couple of years before I had to cannibalise its innards for my desktop workhouse, and while playing PC games on my TV with a 360 controller was sometimes incredible it was also often a frustrating and fiddly experience, and using regular Steam in such a way is horrible.

There's also something to be said for the kind of foundation this gives Valve in terms of producing a console. They've made no secret of the fact that they're investing lots of resources into Linux and hardware development, so is it too much of a stretch to imagine Linux-based consoles (whether it's a single one or a whole line of them) running Steam and whatever games are compatible with it? While it might seem hard to imagine, with Windows 8 set to seriously fuck things up (IMO) and Valve keen to push people towards Linux, it's more possible than ever before that PC gaming might eventually become associated primarily with Linux rather than Windows or OS X.

In some ways it's probably a good idea to take photographic principles into account when it comes to art composition, as they both kind of share the same principles and have borrowed from each other over time. The whole 'rule of two thirds' thing Sentura is alluding to above is definitely important, as is a general understanding of how lighting and framing can hugely influence the beauty of a picture.

When it comes to painting specifically though, I think getting your overall composition right is definitely key — have a sketched version of the entire piece rather than trying to make it up as you go along. Also, get into the habit of doing several throwaway sketches on a small piece of paper before you try and do a proper full-size version, as then there's less commitment to each version and you don't feel so bad about throwing an idea away.

Even if I'm pretty much sure I know exactly how I want something to look, I'll still do one or two sketches just so it's totally imprinted in my mind so the final version is more of a planned production.

Uncharted was such a mind-blowingly good-looking series I have no doubt whatsoever this will look amazing. I remember even in the Uncharted 3 thread people were picking on the graphics close to the release, then it came out and looked jaw-droppingly awesome. If ND lets me down then I will kill 'em all.
