":1181omn1]The thing with recent Aliens games is that Aliens are now cannon fodder, whereas in the movies a single Alien can kill you and all your mates. And that’s something AvP1 managed to get right, one of those fuckers would get you killed, It’s just impossible to make a good Aliens game in the Call of Duty era, scripted events and over the top action is not that this universe is about.

I must say, even though I've been here for a short time, your comments are always very perceptive. I completely forgot how difficult the original AVP was. Especially since you couldn't save! So yes, it's a shame. The aliens are supposed to be ruthless and efficient killing machines/hunters and not some random target practice. They cut the power remember

But that I think has little to do with the COD era. Alien Resurrection and both abominations called AVP 1 en 2 already degraded these once scary horrors. Good points about the location as well. There should be nothing left and if you really want to nitpick, how the hell is it possible that the Sulaco is infested with aliens? How did they get there and most important, who did they impregnate?

After seeing these latest videos my enthusiasm is beginning to decline.

Yeah I cancelled my pre-order after seeing some of this footage, which is a shame as I had high hopes for this. I'll re-consider I guess if the reviews turn out ok

After the Duke Nukem Forever and Rage debacles of last year I stopped with preodering games. I'll await the reviews first, even if they are being held back by the publisher. Ofcourse some games, like Diablo 3, are instant buys

I tried to cut the lines yesterday at PAX to see this in action and make my own mind up on this game, but couldn't go through. 2h30 waiting line for it, so clearly people are noticing it. In comparison (entirely different game), I was in and out of the line for Quantum Conundrum in 20 minutes.

Do you mind sharing your impression in the Quantum Conundrum thread??

I was able to see it in action in a SP demo today as well as an MP playsession with the Gearbox devs and I have to say...

It's awesome. Was totally taken by surprise, especially by the MP when I played it. Watching the SP playthrough, it was cool, but didn't really make me go 'omgmustbuynow'. The trailer of the section they demo'd should be out fairly soon, so you'll see for yourselves! What really took the cake for me and makes me want to buy it was the MP with the devs. It was only a simple TDM match versus them, but boy was it fun, best TDM I've played in a long while. It's Marines vs. Xenos, and they've nailed the atmosphere perfectly and even though our side wasn't communicating *too much*, we really stuck and worked together out of necessity from fighting the Xenos. If it's already THAT fun in TDM, I can only imagine it being exponential in the more team-base objective modes that they'll have (usually my fave game modes). We had a pretty tight match too with them hah, it was 44 to 44 with a second left, and gearbox manage to sneak in a kill at the last second . Much fun!

I read a preview yesterday about the MP basically stating the same thing. It sounds promising!

I suspect they will add a 'horde' mode as well in which have to keep of wave after wave.

Glad to hear you liked it! Maybe its more fun to play than it looked from the ingame trailer.

I just hope they fix the Xeno invulnerability while playing there pounce animations on a marine victim? The mp trailer dictates otherwise.

God damn why does every single alien game ever have the ridged skull aliens, they look so bad compared to smooth skull aliens.

I think this is going on my "If I had a time machine" list, I'd go back and slap whoever thought taking the original casing off the prop was a good idea.

I definitely see what you mean there, but I'm not sure if I agree. The ridged skull version of the aliens is from "Aliens", and this game is a sequel of that movie.

    Alien head on Alien:

On Aliens they changed the design, and included that ridged skull:

I don't think MP is what this game will excel at, but hey, it sure is a nicely made trailer. Man this game has been in the making for a long time..
