Put this in today, got a lot of changes and additions to the level to make and this is just one..it's not properly unwrapped or textured yet i was just testing ![]()

wohaa

that is an mighty cool idea

the skull a bit more defined and that shall be awesome

-
I think you should do something about the transition from the water to the cliffs, it's quite harsh right now. Maybe some smaller rocks showing through the water in front of it can loosen it up a bit and a texture on top of the water or something to achieve that spindrift effect.
Cool idea with the skull though.

-
I really like the skull, im not so sure about the arms though.
-
Hmm this isn't the first place people have said they aren't keen on the arms..i'll have a fiddle with it, maybe totally remove them. As for the water harshness, i have to look into the water opactity still, theres problems with having heighfog and water with opacity that I need to get around first
-
i think it's because they are static but look like some evil demon's hands actually moving around, grabbing people and whatnot.
the skullrock just looks more believable, i guess. at least that's the impression i get from the screenshots. the skinny rock arm elements just don't look like they could be built/created over the years compared to some stone/rock/skull
-
Yep, what i was thinking was that if i kept them I'd have to give them some supports or something for realism, but at the same time they were meant to be an Unrealistic addition to a realistic level, this is for UT3 after all
For now though, the arms are gone -
I like the arms but dislike the implementation of them. Perhaps they could have been added by pirates using scraps of whatever they could find (barrels, ships, metal stuff etc) to make it more haphazard and less weirdly formed rock. Something like the Orks would make in Warhammer, would also be more interesting I think.
-
My only complain are those horrible seams on the textures!

Great idea tho
-
Well as i said its not unwrapped or textured correctly yet
In fact seeing as i probably won't be including the arms anymore i guess that saves me some work..still have to texture the skull and cliff properly though -
Interesting theme. Nice to see this kinda thing for UT.
I like the skull rock could look very cool when unwrapped nicely

-
As i seem to be constantly learning at the moment about many aspects of modelling and texturing I have been going back to my final year university version of this level and updating everything in it, replacing models, retexturing etc...heres how some of the new stuff is looking now (WIP)

thumbs up -
Hah, yeah i guess it does, the arms have gone now though just leaving the cliche at the normal level

Have you tried doing it a little different such as, having the palm as a small island, while the fingers raise upwards. Here's a bad image to illustrate what I mean;

Nice image there
I think i get what you mean, so you mean the left arm, instead of being positioned in mid air, would actually be partially underwater and the hand would be holding a small island? I mean, there are options for the hands, but whether they fit into the big picture or not at the end i'll have to decide, it might be that they just end up standing out too much...plus overall on forums i had more negative comments regarding them than positive -

I say it's worth an experiment to see if it fits of not, but it's up to you or not. Removing the arms entirely kind of removes the unique concept you had going there unfortunetly.
