Hey guys, here's the first screenshots of my Work In Progress Crysis map.

I named it Dead Vulcan Island, since all the action is in a Vulcan shaped island.

This map is mainly for me to getting used to the editor, and Crysis engine, and so far I'm am loving this! I tell you, this is by far, the best editor I have ever used in my life!

Edited with my latest screenshots, as this first post was most outdated.

Looking good HP. Unfortunately I wasn't too happy the the performance in the Crysis demo on my system so think it'll be around a year or two before I get around to checking it out

even though screenshot two looks very generic, and my bet is that we'll see so many of those type of screenshots in the future, it still looks absolutely delicious

great job so far... MP or SP?

The grass on the two mountains in the last screenshot looks kind of strange. Although the map has the generic jungle look, I like it. Nice to see someone making something for crysis.

The screens look indeed incredible, but... an island? Come on

It will be an SP map, as I said this is just a test map, to practice around with the editor, messing with the heightmap editor, the layer and painting vegetation, etc, so don't expect much from it...

Yeah, alot of people is complaining about Crysis performance, even nowadays standard PC's gfx cards, struggle to play this game at a decent FPS, but hey, it's the price to pay for every leave having It's own shadow!

Oh btw, the grass on the mountains looks weird because it ain't finished yet, there will be lots of rocks and vegetation there, since the player will have to climb it.

And, erm.. yeah, an Island! it's what this beautiful engine does best!

There are islands which emerged through a volcanic eruption, and therefore are actually big volcanoes with many smaller sub-volcanoes. Some of them may be still active, some of them are completely extinct. Those islands usually get smaller after a certain time, as the water slowly rasps the rocks those islands consist of. The Hawaii islands are a group of such islands.

You should have listened to your geography teacher

Yup, I think one can call it that, volcanic island.

Anyways, here's a screen of the island. (ignore the fact that It's all green, It's not textured.. yet)

I think one problem Crysis mappers are always going to face is making something that stands out. After all, I look at those screenshots above and have a hard time working out whether or not it's just something from the original game (Though that at least says your quality standard is good!).

I think an awesome project to embark upon would be to try and model one of the many Monkey Island islands, ideally one of one of those in the first three games (people prefer them). I'm betting if you did a really good job you could easily get Dugg, as well as posted about by the many gaming blogs/sites out there such as Joystiq and Destructoid (especially ones like MixnMojo).

It'd also be quite challenging because they all have some pretty specific structures, rather than just being nothing but foliage and hills with some huts like most Crysis maps will be.

Just something to consider for a Crysis mapper who's familiar with the Monkey Island series and wouldn't mind some heavy publicity, anyway.

Holyshit yes thrik, it would be an immediate success, although you would need a lot of custom content if you plan to make the villages and the different scenes, even new models of vegetation why not ..

Lol, the idea is good but it would be a full blown TC! And one needed a dedicated team, and we all know how hard it is to find dedicated kids nowadays!
