It's like reading Arabic, from right to left instead of left to right.

I've worked out that the reason I find it so jarring with the names on the right is because I normally look at the avatar before the post, which is how I identify most people; without the avatars being on the left the first thing I automatically look at is the post so I have to go across to check out the avatar and then come back again.

ahah, yeah man, exactly my thoughts here...

I kinda like it, I always loved PHPbb3 when the firts beta releases, and I surely like the new looks of it! It's different and refreshing.

Are you guys sticking to this default theme, and just change the banner? Or you'r gonna change the overall look of the template as well to fit the old colors?

Kudos for the admins, improvements is always nice to see!

Indeed the info bar on the right pretty annoying, it has proved very useful on the left side in the past. I see who posted before actually reading the message, and in some cases like Nexuz posts for example, i could ignore them by just seeing his avatar and avoid me any brain pollution.

I also vote for a darker layout, it's better than posting your contrasted map screenshots on a white page. ( a bit like that http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/ )

    Totally agree...

That Pixelation forum looks like ass and I would really hate MapCore to ever look anything like it. No offence to whoever designed it.

I really like the colour scheme we have now. It is easy on the eyes, the overall tone isn't that much different to how we had it before, and because it's mostly default it means we won't lose it or have problems every time Mojo needs to update phpBB (which will happen all the time thanks to hacking fucks). This new design also feels more professional which is good because MapCore is professional.

All we need is a nice custom header, and the name stuff on the left. Clearly anyone who reads from left to right is going to find it easier to read the name and see the avatar before the post for identification purposes. Even vBulletin weren't crazy enough to put the name on the opposite side when they decided to put names above posts.

yeah, but It's the deafult PHPbb3 template, so...

I vouche for something like this, demo: http://swanky.pcriot.com/forum/index.php

    Download: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... ed+corners

Or check the official subsilver template, which is pretty much like this one, but slighly silver/blue colors, which are lovely.

I find it rather confusing all. Apart from the avatars on the right, I also find the colors to be too white and with too little contrast. It is hard seeing the difference between two posts for me. Minus the bold titles everytime, It all looks like one big reply to me. But yeah, default theme

Is there anything more planned for Mapcore apart from the forum upgrade we are all looking at?

I dont like it tbh. The layout fucks with my brain. Also it lacks contrast between the posts.

btw why is everyone a featured artist now?

No. This upgrade was done out of necessity; our version was very old and could be hacked. It was so old that the custom theme could not possibly be re-used.

And I don't see how it can all look like one big post. Are you on an old CRT monitor or something that can't pick out all these lovely blues? There's quite a distinct difference to my eyes.

As for the overall style, I'm all for customising it a bit (although I think the core design is really nice). Not like that one you posted though HP, the background image and bevel border thing on that looks really iffy.

i guess this will take some time getting used to. apart from the look "issues", i still get that microsoft remote data pop up yellow bar arbitrarily when the forum page loads.

If the background of the posts could have more contrast, that would be nice. Every post has another background color now, if the two colors used could be slightly more different, or if there could be a line or some darker element in between two posts, it would help making it all look like seperate replies.

I use TFT's. Look at your screen from a distance, or squize your eyes. You really can't tell the difference between two posts like that

the bar IE gets when it asks you whether to load a pop up or a plugin.

Don't think I've heard of anyone else getting that. That only generally appears when you don't have Flash or Java or something installed doesn't it?

We definitely have no pop-up ads here so if you're getting any you must have spyware.

i do not have spyware. however, this might very well be related to the trojan some people are getting. i have only had it sporadically when i browse the forums, not every time. just like some people describe how the trojan acts. i'd say that this matter needs looking into.

Props and big thanks to Mojo. I had worries that the mystery trojan took over the site completely when the forums were down yesterday and that it would take much longer until anyone starts with the update process - so this is a very nice surprise

If this document is still up to date, here is a list of features that the forum update should bring:

    http://area51.phpbb.com/docs/features.html

Obviously there are still some things that aren't working yet. Most importantly, the frontpage isn't fully back up yet, which means there is no spotlight galery (which had problems before) and most importantly - the "There are X unread posts" link isn't showing up I've always found that to come in really handy.

I'm not sure what the plan for the frontpage is tbh - do you want to restore it Mojo, or do some "changes" ?

As far as the design goes, I liked the custom buttons Mike did, maybe we can get something similar back. The user information/avatar being on the right of the post is the most confusing part to me as well, you got my vote for moving it back to the left.

We've looked into it Sentura, and we cannot find any evidence of a trojan or virus. Mojo has even installed a completely new version of the forums, which uses nothing from before. I tried using Google to track down anything matching the names of the trojans that people have posted and, again, nothing relevant turned up.

I still think it's a case of something in the code being similar to a recently recognised virus/trojan, and various anti-virus software picking it up as a result. However we can't know either way until people receiving the error provide much detail such as what exactly their virus scanner thinks is suspicious (Cookie? Part of the source code? Image?).

Nobody with the capacity to fix it can reproduce the problem so it's vital anyone getting the notifications provides as much detail as possible.

Also while Mikezilla's buttons were OK, I think these new ones are better. I really do like this new phpBB 3 design in every way, and think all we need is a custom header and maybe some minor colour customisation (although we've always been blue anyway).
