Anyone up for a round of World of Crycraft? Oh... no that was another movie...

Seriously: I think I've read before Crysis would have sequels and seriously: They could have used Cryengine 1 if they had liked to produce Crysis as a single game. The fact they have developed a new engine was a sign for a whole series at first glance (no one produces a new engine for like 1+ million dollars per license if he doesn't use it)

Far Cry was the only game to use CryEngine1 I believe, but this is only my ignorance speaking!

I bought Crysis on my huge enjoyment of the Demo. What I normally do is download the game then if I like it I buy it. I kinda wish I'd done that with Crysis as it was a really average game just as you hit half way and would have waited until it was on the budget shelf.

First: Crytek had to create an engine back then (or license one)!

Second: Cryengine has been licensed by Ubisoft for Far Cry 2 and I think there is or has been another title with this engine.

Just wondering, does anyone know what are the Orange Box sells like? (PC+X360+PS3) I started to wonder about it when i noticed these numbers and couldn't find any reasonable infos on net.

Edit: As for UT3 sells: Well, considering shitload of UE3 licences being sold (what was it like, 700 000$ per single title?) Epic won't get hurt too much if it won't sell well but still it's sad, same for crysis, maybe it's partially because of the system requirments? (and warez). And yeah I can agree with above that people tend to think that games are MEANT to be CRACKED, ie. when you give a kid a retail cd he will ask "where's the crack because he can't find it".

Doesn't surprise me much that UT3 hasn't sold all that well. It's just the same old for the 3rd time with seriously OTT post processing. UT1 is the only one I've ever bought and enjoyed

If UT1 was the only one you've bought and enjoyed, then you're forgiven for not know how much different and shit UT2003 was So bad, that they seem to not even include it in their anthology packs, ever.

UT2004 however was, though still vastly different, a rather nice game.. But I for one like how UT3 is a return to the roots. But then again.. I'm a sucker for UT's pace

i bought ut3 because i could get it for what is roughly £5. it only really interested me because there was the tutorial dvd with the collector's box. once i get a little less work around i am gonna power some unrealED. about time i learn another engine than gldsrc/source.

Most people can't actually run Crysis or UT3 properly, so they’re not going to sell as much as “normal” games anyway.

Though I don't doubt if catering to the elite does end up profitable they’ll milk it for all they can.

Indeed, why buying a game if you cant enjoy it at max settings? That's prolly what most people think.

I think Crysis and UT3 will sell alot, on the long run.. imo.

Maybe they will bundle crysis with a lot of new gfx cards? When you create a game that doesnt run proberly on so many machines there must be a strategy behind it. Nobody knows what kinda deals crytek has with hardware manufacturers.

Valve does not publish selling informations. they hint some numbers in random interviews but normally no one knows what the steam sells are like. But afaiheard the orangebox selled about 500k times (but that's only some random number I think I've heard gosting around)

You see very eager to assume there's some magical strategy that'll make everything better again.

The fact is that it's had poor launch sales, and history has taught us that when that happens the game generally doesn't sell too well overall. It might make a decent amount of sales over the months/years, but so do the games that have great launches like Call of Duty 4 ( which will continue to enjoy many sales following its 1.57 million launch units, possibly beating Crysis' launch figures every month).

The launch period is absolutely critical. All it can really hope for is a console release, which'd essentially be a fresh launch and give it the opportunity to become an actual success.

Orange Box retail sales are included in NPD, it did extremely well on the 360 at launch though of course has dwindled since with the other big hitting titles that shipped in Nov.

I'm just saying that Crytek must have been blind if they expected making a lot of money by high sales numbers since it was always clear that a lot of people couldn't run it and the PC also is a big warez platform. So i'm just guessing that they follow a strategy that is a bit different from the usual games.

Also you cant really compare sales numbers between a PC only release and a multiplatform release.

Yes you can -- the numbers I quoted are per platform. Call of Duty 4 solid 1.57 million units on the 360 alone; it sold a further 444,000 on the PS3.

as is known, valve publishs games at steam as well. and I doubt (but am not sure) that NPD includes Steam-Sells.
