Depends mazy. degrees can be very helpful for euros that want to move overseas (especially to the US) as immigration can be quite the pain in the ass without post-secondary diplomas. :-?

    Back on topic:

@ stolve: when you say "detail" are you talking about static meshes?

One of the 2 or 3 times he talked to me (he just doesn't stop :S) he showed my an html page, and an discription about how the maps was suppose to be developed:First an "base mapper" creates the layout and "base structures" (as we know as flat walls), and another creates brush details, and 3rd another guy does models and stuff.

    Or atleast something like that.

    nice work slicky..

i've noticed a few people getting jobs all over the place, mainly us "internet guys"... i read somewhere that only 25% of game developers are big on creating names for themselves on the internet, mainly us modders, or people big in communities like this, gamedesign.net, etc.

a lot of game places only care about how good your art skill is, and in the interviews they'll test just how much you really know about game dev.

the only program i have ever been trained in was adobe illustrator at a local college (now i know every corner of that joke of a program). i'm completely self-trained in everything else, and i know more about game development then a lot of college grads (i had to train 3 grads from game dev in modern technology with btu games).

a degree can only say really, you where lucky enough to have the money to go to college and get a degree, it doesn't necessarily brand you with the experience nor the talent...

some of us just don't have the money to go to college, thats why i'm working on building my portfolio right now, and i'm trying to finish what i start...because i'm tired of being dirt poor my entire life, and i have a talent, so i plan on using it.

btw clan killer what is that animation in your sig?
