What the hell happened?
wtf???
i hope thats only in the demo...
Crysis is the most beautiful game ever but that is an interesting comparison. I looks more like a stylistic change than a draw down on the graphics.
Think about per-leaf lighting for a second.
It's still a few years off.
And like F$#-whatever said; this is the demo. Things might yet change.
2 completely different shots `? Shot nr 1 has a high above sun with a less dense tree and is shot in action (motionblur) while shot n2 is shot with lower sun and in a dense bush - no direct lighting at all.
And it seems they toned down the render-contrast.
You do have a point, but I dont really think that picture from the demo is the best showcase (Also I think it actually looks better for me on Very High).
Still though, I remember that movie where the player is moving around in a very dense jungle, and the final game definitely doesn't look that tight, but close enough
. I bet there are places in the full game that look even better than either of those pictures anyway~~stop whining! ![]()
See that thing in the top right hand corner? No?

You can quote yourself til your blue in the face, but when a demo hits a month before the game does, it's hardly going to be a million miles from the same standard. I really doubt the full game will look better than the demo by anything other than minor touch ups.
Crysis looks stunning, and I've not played it on very high so can't really comment, but the difference between those shots is massive. Not really fair to judge on just two screenshots, but I certainly didn't feel the game was as impressive visually in the demo as it was in the promo vids they've shown.
Short of things that are simply disabled to save space or limit functionality, if a demo or beta comes out less than a few months before a game ships, nothing dramatic will change. Crysis went gold 3 days after the demo released. They're not fixing anything unless it can be easily patched for a day 1 release or it's worth nuking every manufactured disc (and lots of money) to fix it.
demo means "demostration" and that demo doesnt demostrate jack..
you got F'ed in the A
I'm just fed up of people moaning all the time, Crysis looks fucking stunning as it is, there's always someone who has to nit-pick at these things. Regardless of this it's still only a demo, I mean ET: Quake Wars turned out to look a Hell of a lot better as a finished article in comparison to the demo.
I never really gave it any thought but looking at that - it's a huge difference. Cut for performance, possibly? Considering the framerate now, with those shadows it would be pretty bad maybe?
I didn't said Crysis doesn't look stunning, fuck yeah it does!
In fact, I can even risk to say it's graphically the best game ever released 'till date, that's not the fucking point, I'm talking about misleading advertising here.
I have no idea what happened here, but there's something that doesn't smell right. You really do expect to see any improvements to the level of the first screenshot in the full version? If this happens, I till ya, It's a gonna be a first in the games industry!
Whatever man, dream on and keep on blaming the "PRE RELEASE DEMO", "very dense jungle" and "high above sun", yeah... I was naive too, once...
shot one is taken while a nade explode. it will make it extremely blurry and shaking. you cant compare those two screens that are so deferent.

Don't get me wrong here guys, I love Crysis as much as you do, I played the demo, loved it and I will DEFINITELY buy the game, and I will also try to make a couple of maps for this great engine, I'm just saying that if those videos released a couple of months ago were enhanced by CG techniques, It demonstrates lack of moral, honesty (or whatever you wanna call it) from EA.
I haven't played the Crysis demo myself yet, so I can't say what changes have been done to the game in the 2 months of development that I was abscent, but I can assure you none of the videos put out by Crytek/EA have been modified whatsoever. They have always been taken straight from the game, hell, if you look at the first Gamespot video, that's how it was shown to the public at E3 in 2006 on the floor.
The screenshot from your first post compares an in-motion/action shot from one of the tech demos with a screnshot from the game's SP demo that lacks all specular. That's why the leaves and the lighting looks so bland and the rifle like plastic. Until I got a decent enough machine to play it I can't tell you why that is, right now I suspect it is just a badly lit space. The problem is that instead of just having to choose optimal lighting settings for the little scene in a demo, you need to find good settings for a huge landscape. Then multiply this by X if the sun moves during the course of the mission (from night to full day for example). Some spots might look better than others.
On the screenshot it looks like the plants are in the shadow, that's why they don't receive any specular, same for the gun.
Still the gun looks surprisingly bright, maybe they added a hack so you never see a pitch black weapon but that would be quite drastic...I can ask some crytekkies, maybe they know.
hp, is that image part of a larger article or did you just make it? It would be interesting to get a link to the article if there is one.

A colleague of mine found it on NeoGaf I believe, not sure tho... I believe some dude made it, it's not part of any article.
@ Frie, Well, you worked there, so I take you're words as the truth, but you gotta admit man, this whole deal is strange.
Well the differences are clearly obvious, I'm sure it's just a demo thing though.
The big difference seems to be the lack of self shadowing in the demo screenshot. The first shot looks so impressive because all the vegetation is casting shadows.
