Team Fortress 2 beta!!!!!

Don't you get it. You're not paying anything for it. IT'S FREE.
-
In other words, you'd have paid the exact same price if Valve hadn't decided to put the complete previous chapters in the package, so those who never played those game would get the full picture.
-
Is it true that the HL2 copy that comes with orange box, has all the technology of EP2? blooms, hdr's, etc?
If it does, It's worth it
-
Are you seriously that dense or are you just acting?
It's a free game included in the bundle. You're paying exactly the same as you would have paid regardless of whether or not HL2 was bundled; it's simply a bonus for all those people who might have missed out the first time around (or were too young).
You're not paying extra to have it in there. What is so difficult to understand about this? HL2 is now officially an old game, and since it probably doesn't sell particularly well anymore Valve is just getting some extra mileage out of it with a generous offer.
I mean, jesus. The things some of you people find to bitch about truly bewilders me.
Edit: Man, shotgun of replies got in before me.

No. Only on XO and PS3.

Ok you made a point.
I'm not sure but was the black box cheaper than the (current) orange box price? (Or was the orange box more expensive when both were announced?)
-
Bought it and preloaded it onto my work PC in a frighteningly fast 4 minutes. Never realised just how stonkingly fast the connection in our office actually was.
See you guys for a game on Monday then I guess

-
Damn cool news and the new engineer video is also fantastic. Three great games for the price of one, that is indeed a good deal.
-
If the Black Box ever came out instead of just being a tentative product it would have had to have been cheaper, but as it never made it past the announcement stage it doesn't really hold much relevance.
I'm guessing their original plan was to let loyal Steam users have the Black Box and get the three new games (Episode Two, Portal, TF2) for cheaper, but later realised that letting people get so much value for less than the cost of one retail game might be a little stupid (they would have originally been charging you for one episode and bundling Portal and TF2). So they back-pedalled and went with the 'charge the price of one retail game for these and then give them HL2 and Episode One too' model.
At the end of the day, most people will be paying roughly the price of one retail game (even less if you happen to be in the UK and buying through Steam thanks to the conversion rate
) for Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. That is one hell of a deal, albeit more so for those who never experienced HL2 the first time round.Everyone's free to make their own mind up, though. I just think to see £25 as a hard deal for what's included, even if you've already played HL2 and Episode One to death, is crazy. £25 is peanuts!

ima little worry about tf2 being nub friendly
but i cant wait to try it out..
-
Kind of concerns me too, but I keep reminding myself that a lot (if not all) of the guys who worked on TF and TFC are now working at Valve and working on TF2. Comforts me a lot.

I'm still lolling at the fact its the same day as Fortress Forever comes out.
-
I wasn't being aggressive, or at least that wasn't how it was meant to be interpreted.

I was just genuinely amazed that people could see what I saw as a great deal as a bad one. Almost like paying for a meal at your fast food place of choice, being given a free burger/sub/whatever, and then complaining about it.

-
And heh, Fortress Forever.

It's really tragic that even if FF is great, chances are that TF2 will just obliterate its (potential) fan base by plundering them all with its beautiful art direction and its quite significantly evolved/changed gameplay.
If only FF had come along in, say, 2005. Would have been a great two years of reliving my TF© days.

-
I read the FF team is trying to come out a day or so earlier now...
-
I'm on the team and we're certainly pushing for an earlier date, hopefully we can do that.
Obviously FF can't compete in sheer numbers with TF2, I'd imagine a lot of pubbers will play TF2 and FF but I think the clan scene may get drawn towards FF over TF2 simply because by the looks of it FF has more of a skill area like TFC did.
-
I'll certainly try Fortress Forever in addition to TF2. I mean, its free ...
-
I'm sorry for FF, however Valve should be also a bit concerned because they will be competing with a free product and I'm not quite sure about TF2's replay value.
I'll try both, but next week won't be the best moment for me. I'm going to start the internal testing of my own mod next week so I don't expect to play too much TF
