Oh, of course. You're right. I totally forgot what a shadowed building looks like; I guess I must be wrong, and am in no position to criticise.

It's more the way the shadow affects the objects/people/etc inside it that looks off to me. Look at the car and the man. Look at the lack of shadowing beneath them that they should be casting.

    It's just a bit iffy.

graphics look too good to be true.

but if they are i hope they didn't sacrifice the size of the environments for it. thats what was so great about the first one, the maps were just endless and you were always exploring new parts...

    Mmm, yeah, that looks pre-rendered.

    Enjoy a moment of nostalgy!

here's a realtime radiosity demo that you can download

actually quite nice but this is still far from being usable in a game environment

The original Mafia had no CGI cinematics at all. It was all in game stuff. More than likely this is too. I still say the shadow's fine.

I loved the first Mafia, I cannot wait for this one. GTA will be fun to do all the crazy things in a city, but Mafia will probably have the better story.

I didn't like Mafia much. Gameplay was boring and annoying. Plus the game stoped working half way through for me. 2 copies!!! This looks ok, backdrop really sucks.

Mafia had one of the best soundtracks for a game in a long time, I hope its the same with Mafia 2.

And on the dynamic vs radiosity lighting front, a dynamic city which may just be free roam will most likely have a time of day cycle, meaning dynamic lights will be the better, and easier choice, although I do prefer radiosity.

It doesn't look pre-rendered at all, they just positioned the camera to give it some awesomtasicness. You can see the LOD system in the exterior screenshot.

Also, in the second screenshot, with "tommy" up against the pillar, look at the poor shadows of the chairs and table on the bottom right. Tut tut.

yeah, the facial animations were really well done. I hope that wasn't a CG trailer :X Since the car stuff in the middle made it seem like it was but the stuff in the beginning seemed in game.

    Thanks for the link.

The facial animations seemed out of sync in places and over-done, they still don't beat the new stuff in TF2 and HL2 - Episode 2 in my opinion.

Game still looks good anyway, I'll be buying it.

    I'm confused...

Some people say the trailer is CG, some others say this is real-time... erm...?
