so should i delete the last two pages of replies or not?

My sentiments exactly. I think the spirit of the thread got lost a bit... wasn't it meant to be mostly a fun contest where amateurs and veterans kill some freetime and brag about their texture skills? And now everyone keeps redoing random posters (with little or no effort involved), following the new credo to "redo all HL1 textures and port them into Source!". Hm... weird.

It looks like the Valve guys have been hanging arround on google!

Pure comedy gold. Half-Life was released in 1998 while Google didn't leave it's beta status before 1999

Not bad! The structure does not look very realistic, but interesting. A bit more grain and reducing the current structure would work better IMO. But a really nice result for only 1 week!

And please don't place the tear at the border - seems as this will cause tile-probs

i was just too tired to look at the old one so i just started over... i think the cracks look better in this one but I was'nt able to put a big ass tear (I know it wont tile but hey... look at the original) like in the first one... any suggestions?

/me smashes Bic-B@ll with teh Hammre (oh, rub it in, why don't ya... )

Well, I'll look for a better tutorial on metal, and when I get the desired effect, I will update my texture over the old one... (so as not to make this thread heavier for no reason)

quotopsy, nice tex! It reminds me more of a xen-ish wall though. I dunno why (But then again, what do I know? )

And Skyshi, I think the original texture Isn't meant to tile.... It also has a crack in it...

    ___

    Cheers!

-edit- Nice! The newer version looks much more... um... concrete wall-ish... Suggestions... hmm, maybe try adding the center crack... but either way, it's a pretty sexy texture

what did i do? that was the first time ive ever tried to make brushed metal, what i did was made a new channel, rendered noise, motion blurred and then went to a normal layer, filled it with 7f7f7f (gray) and did lighting effects, messed with the contrast, added noise, sharpened, and then motion blurred again

Please for the love of Source, make a webpage for these textures and the ones that havent' been done yet. mapcore.net/hlretex/ or something... seems like a worthy use of webspace to me.

Aaah, c'mon... how many textures have been redone in this thread, 40, maybe 60? HL.wad alone counts over 3000 textures and it's highly unlikely we will ever get together more than 100-200, at least not in this thread.

As I said before, I still wonder who came up with the idea to redo all textures from hl.wad for some sort of "Hires HL"... but I still doubt this idea is anywhere close to being realistic.

It's not that unrealistic. There's a quake retexturing project. Within a given timeframe perhaps... but by NOT making a site for it... it facilitates the not getting it done aspect... It takes Wally a bried matter of time to batch dump all the wad images to jpg's.

Well, I'm not saying it's impossible... I just doubt it will happen here in this thread (no offense to any of the contributors). Redoing all of the original textures will require some sort of organisation and people willing to dedicate an enormous amount of time to it - I can't see a lot of people in here willing or able to do that.

Beside that, I'm not sure whether the old maps will look that much better with our new textures. The style and quality varies so much that a map with a mixture of textures from 20+ artists will likely look poop, however brilliant the single textures might be.
