Anyone who played TFC back in the day, not CS, endorse the removal of grenades? Sure, Dustbowl was a grenade fest , the scout was kind of neglected (but no where near as much as the pyro). But remove them? It's like CS:S coming with no automatic weapons to reduce the pray and spray.I thought originally they were just removing Frags, but if there's no concs, nail, mirvs or emp's I just don't see it being as fun. Of course I have a biased POV because I spent an awful lot of time on TFC just playing conc, pipe and rocket jump maps, but so did a lot of other people. I really hope they're still there as a server command or something.

a server command to quickly code in grenades, oh and make all the models too?

Plus Valve have borrowed their style from Pixar if anything, do they mention this in interview anywhere? I'm too lazy to read. Anyway I wonder if they brought in new talent to create this style, seems such an impressive departing from all their other stuff.

    Can't wait.

In the interview where they announced the change, they said grenades were implemented fully. I believe the original movie even showed a HWG throwing a MIRV, and scout dropping caltrops.

Edit's removed much sarcasm from this post and I'm not sure why.

It costs $400,000 to fire this weapon for 12 seconds... I love it.

I'm quietly hoping they'll somehow retain conc jumping, even if not specifically with a conc grenade. The general concept of bounding around as a medic using skill was really cool and what basically made the class so loved by many people (infection was nice but not really that commonly used, mainly by new players).

The scout can 'doublejump' or something whats replacing the concjump.

I believe conc/grenade/... jumps were just a engine bug in the orriginal TF that became a feature, but I'm not really sure about that tough.

Well like Valve said, TFC became a grenade spam fest, made classes better then other classes what were suposed to be better in something specific (scout

So I am not that sceptical about it altough TF2 will feel as a somewhat different game as TFC. It means all classes are more unique and have the strong points and weaknesses, unlike TFC where every class could get the same result with good timed/primed frag grenade.

I'm sure that the classes got other special features instead (like the scouts doublejump I mentioned) at least I hope so

Grenades were always a love it / loathe it feature. I played TFC for about five years and, while grenades were brilliant when you'd mastered them, they also came back to bite you a lot. They had a huge splash radius and, since every class had 'em, the primary means of combat was to simply run around spamming them everywhere. This basically meant that they retarded the skill level quite a bit -- as if you could hit most of your shotgun shots and someone spammed a mega-splash gren in towards you, you'd still lose most of your health. The emphasis moved from skill to spam.

It was still a lot of fun, but I think it's a bold & ultimately a good move on valve's part to remove primary grenades.

What exactly was it they said about grenades? I can't watch it at work.

I by no means want the grenades removed as they were such a big component of my play, but I wouldn't be too bothered if it were just the frags. Having class-specific grenades only would work well with the specialised nature of TF, and allow the likes of caltrops and concs to remain in.

I'm only basing my knowledge of the grenade removal on what Taylor said so I'm not sure if the video was ambiguous about this or not.

no nades because they were too 'spammy'

    so they removed them completely

But was it ambiguous about what type of grenades? Could they have not included concs for example?

Maybe just asking them would be best.

They said no secondaries? That's pretty lame then. Not unless they come up with a new name for what you use to conc jump, anyway.

Damn his facial animations appear very similar to that of Alyx'. Either it's the tech or else it's the the same animator, but there are definatly similarities.

i dont think it's directly tied with alyx's facemotions, i just think it's in the nature of the face editor.

Yeah it's their face poser. You say it like it's a bad thing Zacker :S

As for the grenades - look at the shields in CS1.6, which were removed for CS:S, along with the numerous other features that got overhauled or removed completely. It hasn't made it a worse game, it's just a different game on a newer engine.

Watching some of the videos for the TF grenade jumping and it's apparent that there is no way that's a feature that was intended, it's a bug exploiting spam fest

It's like bunnyhopping, I hope valve remove that from CSS because it's a bug - not a legitimate means of transport as so many people seem to think.

Important announcement via Chris Remo of the Shack, who had the chance to check it out recently in addition to episode 2 (of which there is a preview here)

    Quote from Chris Remo

You guys see that big crazy insane laugh he does while firing? That's in the game, it actually looks and sounds like that. When you're killed, the camera does a quick snap-zoom up to your killer and freeze-frames it, and if you're killed by a Heavy you get a freeze-frame of this big beefy Russian dude with this massive grin on his face lit up by a muzzle flash. It is awesome.
