Just got the email about new beta (2.6), and he has added some fucking sweet features - you can now have a view of the diffuse + normal with lighting.

    Great stuff, grab it now

Does he want people to download it freely like this? His front page says specifically to email him if you want to beta test it.

Thanks for sharing this, however am I too blind to find the button for the diffuse + normal preview?

On the other hand, it takes longer to calculate all that stuff than with 2.0 it seems .

You must enable the diffuse view setting from the preferences.

Works faster for me than older versions.

@ ferret - if you google "crazybump" it takes you to the download page, so I'm simply saving the people here some time by removing the google steps. I'm sure the guys who use crazybump here will add in their emails to receive updates and news as I thoughtfully did when it came out.

Besides - more users = more feedback so hopefully I didn't do anything to piss the nice guy off.

i still get this weird i think runtime error that occurs right after I make a normal.. if I try to do a second one it pops up.

this new one is nice though... love the diffuse + normal.

you can find the dl-links in many forums like polycount and so on.

i dont think its "restircted" but maybe he wishes to know how many people are interested in his program and subscribe.

its a very nice program he made there.

Am I the only one that gets more and more nervous as the number of automated programs increases?

Any tool that lets you finish the job faster and with a high level of quality can only be viewed as a good thing, IMO. If you're worried that random plebs can push buttons and get the same results as someone who has invested years of practice, don't be. It's ammo for your arsenal -- just another tool to get the job done. A good developer will just use tools as part of their workflow to enhance the final product, whereas a pleb will be limited to pressing buttons, changing sliders and hoping for the best. If the pleb can't get the results they're looking for, they're stumped. I'm speaking as a texturing semi-pleb, btw

Yeah it's definitely a good thing, things that can be done procedurally should be, so we can get on with the creative side of level design.

I wouldn't be nervous. As game development gets more and more complex, a lot of the bottom end tasks will be replaced with automated widgets, letting artists and designers focus on the newer, more complex tasks. It's how we're going to be able to adapt to the next gen workflow.

lol JP and sindwiller - I suppose we should all be modeling and mapping in notepad because only amateurs use programs designed for the task at hand.

Well normal maps aren't really that exciting to make so using a tool which offers you a great amount of control over the results quickly is welcome.
