You guys really have bad timings for these contests, i have no time at all right now. Good idea tho, will be interesting.

How could anyone think that this is a terrible idea!? 1024 map size so that there is a good chance of completion, and limiting things to HL2 textures means that everyone is good to go.

There is still plenty of scope for some great looking, and playable maps.

Now someone make it sticky'd and official and set a deadline. [Edit] Maybe the 20th? To keep things concise?

Assuming this is going ahead then, here's mine so far after ~6hrs. It's about 1400 tall at the moment, but only 600 of that's playable. It's mostly based on this, the movie Brazil, and Midgar from FFVII.

btw, do sprites work differenetly in HL2DM to other Source games? I've got them on all the lights with the "start on" flag checked, and tried different sprite materials, but none of them are showing up ingame.

I have noticed certain sprite materials don't show up. Aside from that make sure it isn't placed inside of a model and that it's set as world space glow.

Map's looking cool, keep it coming.

Maybe the playable volume of the map should be equal to 1024x1024x1024?

    Like 2048x1024x512 = 1024x1024x1024

    ?

I think we should base the restrictions rather on the volumetric mass of the map, depending if you are using stone, wood, or plaster !!!!!!!

Do not make a map with plutonium textures tho ! LOL

Hmm, never thought of that best to keep it within a 1024x1024x1024 cube...

April 20th. So 2 weeks from today. Sometime before that an entries thread will be started to accept everyones maps and then have a vote, like the Oldschool contest. Should be enough time.

If none of that works, go into the sprite entities properties and under the material name, add ".spr" if it's not there.

I'm thinking about joining this contest.

ooh, better try and give this a go. I'm sure I'll fail as miserably as I did on the HL1DM comp, but meh.
