Imagine the 3d version of a myspace page. You're looking at an interior design disaster of epic proportions.

I suppose if it comes with a MUTE ALL option...but then again it won't shield my eyes assuming I'd actually want to navigate through it.

True, that is my main issue with Myspace and 2nd Life, they are true examples of why you should not let users do your content. I know of no other place where you can find more horrible designs than in those places.

And that's what makes it so amazing. If everything were perfect it'd be no fun at all.

Sony need to realise this and include subtle items that can turn chic into shriek. Black wallpaper - the ability to paint in blood on your own walls, giant dildo shaped lava lamps. The ability to upload pictures from your camera/webcam and use them as posters and such.

God, just thinking about the sheer horror of it all gets me excited.

    Bad = Good.

The list of games tested are claimed by Cynamite to be the top-twelve PS2 software titles, and are listed as followed:# God of War

    # MGS 2: Sons of Liberty

    # MGS 3: Snake Eater

    # Shadow of the Colossus

    # Guitar Hero 2

    # Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

    # Okami

    # GTA: Liberty City Stories

    # Eragon

    # Final Fantasy X-2

    # Ratchet & Clank 3

    # Lumines Plus

Its reported that only ONE of these twelve games operates properly - Eragon. All other titles refused to run, and referred the user to future software updates and the Sony Website to read the downward compatibility list.

Well it’s my understanding more games will be made backwards compatible as it goes, as is the case with the xbox 360. What actually made me WTF reading that was the actual list of “top twelve titles,” which is clearly suspect.

I would say that I don't care about backwards compatibility....but between Christmas and New Years I specifically purchased SSX3 for the Xbox so I could play it on my 360 because I only wanted to bring one console. I say this because I already played SSX3 to death on my PS2 but wanted to play a good snowboarding game while on a ski trip.

So in that case, I am all for backwards compatibility cause it is easier to haul one console than many.

....so now I want ONE console that is the size of a cell phone that plays ALL my favorites regardless of where I go or what console they were from or what media they were on...

Damn you, gaming industry. Damn you.

They announced that they removed the backwards compatibility while ago so I'm not surprised if that's true.

If you've a PSP you might wanna try out SSX: On Tour - saves lugging a console away on holiday, and provides much the same Snowboardy goodness of SSX3 but with added skiing

SKDR, they announced they were moving from hardware emulation to software emulation, not that they were removing backwards compatibility. Phil Harrison keeps dropping numbers of over 1000 PS2 titles to be supported (most recently 1200+, via a downloadable patch available on EU release).

James, I'm reckon that what they are claiming is most likely true, but I doubt it matters too much for most of us. Apparently there will be a release day patch with the 1.6 firmware, and that is where the vast majority of the software emulation gubbins will be found. Bit of a shame for people who buy the system and don't plan on plugging it in to the net (something that is true of quite a few of my mates), but for folks like us I doubt it will be an issue.

You got it spot on ReNo. The firmware that will ship with the PS3 on Euro launch day is not the version that these guys were running their box on. If you are getting a PAL PS3 it should ship with the latest firmware version on it. AFAIK you won't need to plug it into teh web to update. Could be wrong on that though knowing Sony's recent love of last minute patching. Probably see a glut of patches as the beta testers, sorry, 'early adopters' plug in their boxes and start working through thier PS2 back cat.

The url posted previous has been flying around the office here and folks have been talking about it at length, which is why I call BS on it. Not saying all those games will work, simply that a fair chunk of the ones you are likely to want to play, will.
